What would you do on Boxing Day by yourself?

I have my DC this year for Christmas Day (alternate with their dad) but they'll be away early Boxing Day morning. DH will be there in the morning but has a football game so will be out of the house 1:30pm-6pm ish (he walks both ways and it's quite far). I just don't know what to do with myself. I've never enjoyed Boxing Day sales and I'm pregnant and just want something to look forward to but I'm not sure what? Any suggestions would be amazing, otherwise I'll be binge eating watching a show (unless that's for the best).

Eat all the food and watch the TV.

Petitchat · 04/12/2024 18:28

Relax, watch a show and binge eat. It won't hurt for once and you have the perfect excuse...

PrincessAnne4Eva · 04/12/2024 18:28

When I was in my twenties and alone for Christmas and Boxing Day I used to go out for walks by myself in the local area, visit landmarks, walk on the beach etc. I really enjoyed how peaceful the world is while most people are at home with their families. I guess it depends how mobile you are with your pregnancy but I'd love to have those sorts of days again.

Hoppinggreen · 04/12/2024 18:30

Sofa, crap telly and a good book, chocolates, cheese and crackers and my cat.
But you will have to get your own cat, mine only likes me and DD

itsgettingweird · 04/12/2024 18:31

I'll be doing nothing!

Ds is a swimmer and has Xmas day and Boxing Day off - all other days we are up at 5am.

So I'll get up, bath, put on lounging around stretching clothes - and eat 😂

AnnaDelvorkina · 04/12/2024 18:33

Go for a run, have an everything shower, watch a film/TV series, have a siesta.

ToNiceWithSpice · 04/12/2024 18:34

Eat all the nice food and watch TV

Spagettifunctional · 04/12/2024 18:34

I would absolutely put my feet up and buy yourself something nice for the freezer to put on

face mask, nice shower, down decent magazines or book

you could make yourself up a pamper box to open that morning

Eat all the food and watch the TV.

This is what I used to do.

Sortalike · 04/12/2024 18:51

I'd do absolutely nothing beyond make a pot of tea, eat biscuits and read a book.

DH worked a super long shift on boxing day when I was 7 months pregnant with DD - it was lovely to do nothing other than doze, read and put my feet up.

Next year will be very different!

What would you do on Boxing Day by yourself?
PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/12/2024 18:58

Get pissed

OAPapparently · 04/12/2024 19:00

If that were me it would be a PJs day watching all my favourite tv shows and eating all the leftover Christmas food.

Meadowfinch · 04/12/2024 19:07

I have boxing day on my own every year - ds goes to his dad's.

Over the years I have variously

  • lazed around eating chocolate and watching tv,
  • been to the coast and lunch with friends
  • done Park Run followed by shopping,
  • spent the day cooking new recipes
  • repainted my sitting room
🤗
Aposterhasnoname · 04/12/2024 19:08

Eat and drink all the leftovers while watching christmas telly (specifically, the wizard of Oz) in my pjs, messing about with my presents and browsing the online sales. In fact that is exactly what I do most years as DH often works boxing day.

Notmydaughteryoubitch · 04/12/2024 19:10

If I had boxing day to myself, I would get up and go for a nice long walk up in the hills and then have a swim at the reservoir/lake nearby. Then back home and put pyjamas on and have a lazy afternoon, which would include a nice bath for which I'd have bought some new bubbles and candle for and some nice new body cream for after. Read a bit of my book and I'd save a film I really wanted to watch and eat my favourite foods and lots of indulgent lovelies.

Margorett · 04/12/2024 19:10

You lucky thing, sounds a wonderful boxing day. If it were me, I would get up, walk the dog (or walk yourself if you dont have one) and spend the day, eating all those yummy things and watching TV, heavenly !

mamajong · 04/12/2024 19:11

Chips by the sea if there is one nearby or a Christmas movie and duvet day? Do you hahd a hobby you can indulge in? I'd happily spend a few hours crafting with some tunes on

BenditlikeBridget · 04/12/2024 19:11

Buy yourself a new book and some foody treats and Stay.In.Bed.

GinaDreamsofRunningAway · 04/12/2024 19:11

Hot relaxing soak in the bath with a book. Then into my PJ’s with a movie and I would make myself a picky snacky lunch (pate, cheeses, Pringles etc) followed by choccies 🥰🥰
Perfect 🤩 xxx

whatnow5 · 04/12/2024 19:13

Get dressed up and go to the races

WonderingWanda · 04/12/2024 19:14

I'd probably go for a lovely long walk then come home and watch a film and eat cheese and crackers and all the festive treats. Then when it gets dark I'd have some mulled wine and mabe another film....or read in the bath for a bit before having another feast, maybe a turkey sandwich and some more tv.

evtheria · 04/12/2024 19:14

I'd have to prepare: buy a stack of books, research possible things to watch on tv/streaming, buy nice food.

• Wake up, grab a flask of hot coffee and a cheese & ham croissant and head out for a brisk walk first thing.
• Come back to something that can be done in the oven or microwave without attention. Have a shower while it cooks. Dress in fresh, clean pjs (loungewear if you fancy) and a dressing gown or hoodie. Open a brand new box of chocolates and set on the coffee table, close to hand.
• Eat whilst watching something.
• Rest of day passes in a blur of reading and various cheeses.

How many people have not read the OP? 😂

MumonabikeE5 · 04/12/2024 20:17

Well until you said you were pregnant I’d have said go for a cobweb clearing walk, but that’s not this years Boxing Day.

if you knitted etc you’d be spending the day using your lovely new yarn to make something.
if you were a big reader you might be relishing a long day delving into a Christmas stash.

maybe downloading a film and enjoying it with some food would be the ideal way to spend the day.
