Thread 13 - the one where I'm dashing for the school run!

1000 replies

Reastie · 22/11/2024 07:25

Apologies for the rubbish title - I'm trying to get the kids ready and don't want my daughter to miss the bus!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Unbound publishing have a sale on. Some books discounted, some in a 3 for 2 deal. The reduced ones are accessed via the home page but I found the 3 for 2 offer hard to find so hopefully this link will take you to it. Terrible website. If that doesn't work then A Country of Refuge by Lucy Popescu is in the deal and you can click the link above the book. Interesting selection, it's the company connected to the Backlisted podcast. Not sure how barginous but seemed reasonable and supports a decent company

Adult DD has asked for some 'lovely soft pyjamas'. I don't wear pyjamas so don't even know where to start! Any recommendations?

Tomorrowisyesterday · 23/11/2024 20:53

I'd be tempted to get some from M&S with a gift receipt then she can easily change them if wrong size/type

Love chelsea peers pyjamas, so soft and was h really well. They usually do a good black Friday deal on their own website and now m&S sell a limited range too.

The 'soft touch' ones in peacocks are very soft and comfy.

BadgerFace · 23/11/2024 20:59

My 12 year old has recently started wearing M&S adult pyjamas and the are very soft so I think that’s great call by @Tomorrowisyesterday!

Tequilamockinbird · 23/11/2024 21:04

Those M&S ones look great. Thank you, I knew MN would know Smile

@Elmotickler I've just gone for of the day: RockJam 61 Key Keyboard Piano With Pitch Bend Kit, Keyboard Stand, Piano Bench, Headphones, Simply Piano App and Keynote Stickers, Black amzn.eu/d/dmUJYhK this one which seems like a good deal - I've been stalking it for a while! Not sure if any good for a budding pianist - my dd apparently wants one so she can start a band!

If you are a Costco member/know one, the DKNY ladies pyjamas are so soft and lovely. I have about 5 pairs bought over the last few years and they are all still soft and wash well. I think they’re on offer at the moment for about £14 and they also have lovely long dressing gowns there too at the moment.

Moonshine5 · 23/11/2024 21:43

I second this @SugarCookieMonster super soft

I do love these threads. All sorts of ideas - I had no idea that you could do an tour of the gardens at Highgrove and my parents would love that and the DC will enjoy a trip to the place where Ghosts was filmed.
There's an interesting other thread at the moment about the most useful thing you own under £30. All sorts of useful items I had no idea existed

Dangerous on my wallet but can you post link for that thread?

Argos code expires tomorrow. £7 off £75 spend.

@Tequilamockinbird I posted several threads ago about a set I got in Sainsbury's that were a teddy material. I very rarely buy things full price but they are really lovely.

Does anyone have any ideas for dhs grandma? She doesn't want anything and tells us off if we ask, other family are getting her the usual slippers/scarf/dressing gown and unfortunately due to health doesn't really have any hobbies. Husband has poo pood the only idea I had of a photo gift of grat grandchildren. We struggle with her every year and I really hate getting her something that is just for the sake of it (as does she, she told us she has enough stuff)

We got my nan one of the Aura photo frames for her birthday and she loved it. They aren't the cheapest but I'm sure there are cheaper ones on the market and then the whole family can add new photos.
Only idea I have for my nan is something like having a Cornish tea hamper delivered. She is the same. 87 and has everything she wants. I've managed to get her some Vitamin E cream from the body shop but I'm stuck on anything else.
If I was you, I'd tell the DH that he is responsible for sorting it! She might say she doesn't want anything but I'm sure she would be devastated if people didn't put the effort in!

We’ve done a Cook delivery in similar circumstances and will probably do again this year. They do frozen individual ready meals so a treat but a practical one! In previous years we also got a delivery of individual cheesecakes which could be frozen, that was a small local company though!

My son has just got to Grade 2 on this keyboard, we really need to get a weighted key one if he continues, but this was perfect for establishing if he would actually take to it or not

I used to make home made Christmas food hampers for elderly relatives of stuff they would appreciate such as mince pies, their fave Tbags, red salmon etc etc. Some years I even made home made chutney and individual Christmas cakes. Would decorate a cardboard box and wrap it in cellophane. They were always very well received and a practical present.

I just got fingerless gloves from Celtic & Co for my 90 year old, housebound auntie using code NXMAS24 which gives £25 off full price items. They were £30, so down to £5 with £4.95 postage. I bought baby boots from them last year which were lovely so hopefully the gloves will be the same.

Thank you for the Argos code.

Givealittlebit · 23/11/2024 23:07

Oh the mention of a frame reminded me! I need a recommendation for a photo frame (digital) that is foolproof and easy to use. We brought my husbands grandparents one years ago but you have to update the pictures on a usb card and we don't see them often enough.

So ideally one we can update via an app, that they can just see whatever pictures we add.

Also a bargain! Not asking much 😂
