Thread 12 - the one with an extendable honk

Reastie · 17/11/2024 18:02

Thanks @IlovePond for the title.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I'm looking for some advice on a Christmas gift to myself, to make Christmas related items 😆

I'd like to buy a cricut joy. Hobbycraft have a deal which includes a free gift - but I don't want the gift.

Has anyone seen discount codes or anywhere else that sells them?

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 17/11/2024 20:36

I am really struggling for Christmas gifts for my practical dd. She's too young for welding courses that I can find (her idea), unless one of us accompanies her (then too expensive). Can anyone recommend a good whittling set. Doesn't have to be bargainous, just good quality, or anything else to do with building your own house, growing your own food, surviving in the wild, becoming a luthier etc!!! I wish I could just buy some of the make-up offers and be done with it 😂In return, I will post an O2 bauble code once the app lets me on. It's just crashing at the moment.

How old is she? DH says he did a welding course at adult education centre at 14 without parent having to be present. Not sure if you have anything like this near you. It's a great skill to learn.

nicky2512 · 17/11/2024 21:56

Thank goodness I held off on buying the Guess bag I needed for Dd!

30% off one item and 40% off two or more for VIP week if anyone else needs anything.

FriendlyLaundryMonster · 17/11/2024 21:56

Oh, thanks @HoffiCoffii The one I found near us said 18+ or 14+ with an adult. She’s 17. But, I’ll keep looking.

@FriendlyLaundryMonster Have a look and see if anywhere near you does outdoor survival skills classes for kids! My DS went to one during the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Looking for recommendations for the following please if anybody has any ideas.

Hairdryer...wondering about the Remington shine one as I know the same brand straighteners get good reviews

Also a nice loungewear type outfit. Mum wants something cosy for days she's just at home.

Another O2 decoration code, I think it's valid until midnight:

slimmyjimmy · 17/11/2024 22:41

@RJnomore1 Thanks, I did realise that it's just over £5 a bottle when I looked into it. Think it's a really great deal

flouncymcflouncerson · 17/11/2024 22:41

Ooh thanks for the power bank link. Grabbed one for my youngest who’s started to venture out a bit further!

RJnomore1 · 17/11/2024 22:48

Has anyone used Naked Wines? Had an offer through the post...£75 off 12 bottles, will have to pay just over £5, just seems too good to be true. So would just like to know a bit more about them.. is it a subscription and if so, is it easy to cancel? Thanks very much

Not sure if anyone else has got back to you yet sorry but I've had this offer too and was going to sign up, till I realised it meant just over a fiver per bottle. Very misleading.

fishfingersandchipsagain · 17/11/2024 23:02

nit quite such a bargain as the misprice, but Elemis Superfood £24 on Amazon with voucher and Subscrbe and Save

fourelementary · 17/11/2024 23:07

@Reastie Or other thread Bosses- could we Please maybe consider a Voucher Code thread separate to these bargain threads? Around half the posts here so far are requests or codes for the O2 rewards?

Chocolateteabag · 17/11/2024 23:16

@Ardagusdubh
For your upcycling/ sewing niece - do you have any vintage/ old things that you can give her to upcycle?

Gift card for a local sewing shop?

I have all manner of sewing kit but love being given my MIL's old 80's outfits to wear or upcycle

slimmyjimmy · 17/11/2024 23:18

@Fuckingfuckssake yes my eyes popped out when I saw just over a fiver, popped right back in when the penny dropped lol. Think we've decided against as we don't drink a lot really. We'll get our wine from Asda..25% off 6 bottles 🍾.. that will be more than enough.
