Reastie · 17/11/2024 18:02

Thanks @IlovePond for the title.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

Anyone else having issues with the Boots website today? I can only see the first page of offers, it won’t load any more!

slimmyjimmy · 19/11/2024 10:03

Me too @OnionBag . In desperation I tried the AI chat and it didn't know what it was lol

redjoker · 19/11/2024 10:06

CaptainBenson · 19/11/2024 10:09

Just been looking for new boxers for the teen and BoohooMan has a sale on, in the boxers section there are their own brand boxers which look nice reduced, and also xmas themed and gaming themed ones too. Fab prices as stocking fillers for any men or teen boys.

I got loads of VB eyeliners for my birthday and love them....but I am finding myself reaching for others recently.....they just don't last on me.

I've ordered football kits from soccer04 and the lovely beanbag, so am getting off to a good start.....am waiting for the family secret santa allocations so I know who I actually have to buy for!

Any thoughts for my in laws? Both LOVE gardening but have all the plants etc they could need. I thought maybe some nicer versions of things like secateurs but I am pretty clueless....

Have your in-laws got an RHS gardens memembership?

Are there ever any offers on Next? I feel like there's not. Would like a couple of duvet covers.

Rarely see offers. You might want to check cashback but aside from that its just their general sales

IlovePond · 19/11/2024 10:43

@OnionBag - Boots was waiting fine for me at 8.30am but when I tried to add something to my basket an hour later it was glitchy.

I remember the same thing happened last Tuesday and I think some people had their orders mixed up.

I took it as a sign to log out - I’ve already spent too much this morning 🙀

Thought so, thanks for confirming. Will wait and see if any cashback offers happen over Black Friday and then either give in or find slightly less nice ones else where!

I’m looking for advice from anyone who already has a projector.

Would they work for a university dorm room? I’m thinking for DS who is in a midsized dorm. I thought he could project movies etc onto one of the walls, but I don’t know how feasible that it? Do they work in a small space, or does it need to be a “back garden movie night” type thing?

My dcs use theirs on their walls (they are pale not white) they’ve hooked them up to Wii’s for gaming nights with their friends. They work a treat.

Sealskinz are the absolute vest imo. There will be plenty of offers from outdoor places and on Amazon in the next few days as they always drop for BF. I used to work in an outdoors shop and everyone swore by them. Used to get a lot of oul rig workers buying. (the rep used to come in and stand in a big bowl of iced water for hours with their thermal waterproof socks on)

Oh wow! Thats good to know. I took a risk on them as they looked and read well. Normally I wouldn’t risk spending so much on an unknown but they looked perfect.

feel like he could have done with it today

redjoker · 19/11/2024 11:02

This is a nice make up advent calendar!

Code HUKDMRBAC makes it £27

Crackersnap · 19/11/2024 11:33

So sorry if it's been posted already but Nike have 25% off full price for black Friday. The code is SCORE24

unclebuck · 19/11/2024 11:38

Sorry I am asking so many questions - I have 2 women in their late 90s dependent on me and I seem to have no time to research anything properly!

I always get DD some Molton Brown shower gel and there are lots of offers - Brand Alley, QVC and also John Lewis have 20% off - has anyone worked out which is the best value?

If anyone is clued up on Cocktail shakers I'd also appreciate advice - they seem to range massively in price.

Also curling tongs/wand - I do not style my hair at all so am mystified by the wildly different prices and advantages of different ones

Thanks for any help!

Can I recommend this lovely site: Store 1 — Spectrum of Misconception

It's a social enterprise - offering opportunities to people with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. They help pack and post all the things sold - which include gorgeous craft kits and Xmas tree decs. I love Emmeline the Suffragette Mouse - Handcrafted Tribute to Women’s Rights — Spectrum of Misconception
for £8.50 and the Rainbow Bumblebee - LG-BEE-T Pride Felt Decoration — Spectrum of Misconception but there are loads of other things, some cheaper. They do a 10% if you sign up.

You don’t need to spend a ton on a cocktail shaker. Just beware of any that have a coating (like the copper type ones) as those have to be hand washed or the coating comes off.

This is a nice set from John Lewis and has the accessories to go with the shaker

Also if anyone is on Jam donut they are doing 6.5% cashback (I think) for boohooman. So I’ve just got that straight back on my order. My order was only £10.44 as I used an extra 10% off so only had 68p back but it all adds up!

Look Fantastic and Amazon both have the Revolution make up advent calendar in stock at half price, £24. DD was looking at this in Boots at the weekend and it looked great.

if you order from Look Fantastic as a new customer you could also use the referral link to get £10 off a £25 spend making the calendar a bit of a bargain. Here’s the link to the referral thread:
