Fortnum & Mason Best Buys

My Mum has hinted she would really like a hamper from Fortnum & Mason this year.

Having never bought from them before, could anyone offer advice on some of the best items from them? There’s so much to choose from and it all sounds incredible.

I like the chocolate covered coffee beans and the lemon curd biscuits.

Uricon2 · 11/11/2024 18:07

The potted rarebits are very nice (and you obviously get the pot as well!)

If she likes it, their marzipan fruits are gorgeous.

The Welsh Rarebit is delicious - comes in a lovely earthenware pot

The fudge is awesome; pricey but awesome

wildfellhall · 11/11/2024 18:11

The tea is good too

WeGoSlow · 11/11/2024 18:11

I love their chutney 'fig cheese', also their tea selection tins.

AyrshireTryer · 11/11/2024 18:13

Tea - you could make your own blend in previous years; honey - they have hives on the roof; biscuits; chocolates; jam and marmalade; nice bottle of wine or port; cheese; coffee;

IDareSay · 11/11/2024 21:04

Pink Marc de Champagne Chocolate Truffles 😘

Albanyriver · 11/11/2024 21:13

The pistachio and clotted cream biscuits.
the chocolate spiced brownie
they do their own gin they distil on the 4th floor
russian caravan tea
if you like a little heat, the ketchup has chilli in it
their cognac butter!

would not recommend earl grey biscuits! A bit disappointing.

Derogations · 11/11/2024 21:14

Tea
truffles
marzipan fruit
dundee cake (honestly if you like fruit cake it is the best)

bluegreygreen · 11/11/2024 21:38

Their Smoky Earl Grey tea is lovely

The mini almond topped mince pies are better than everyone's in the whole country. Not an exaggeration. They're really small with barely any mincemeat so pretty much everyone loves them.

In the cold and fresh section (also deliverable) is the haggis Scotch eggs - perfect for Boxing Day

WYorkshireRose · 11/11/2024 22:25

I love their Christmas Merrilossus biscuits. Oh and the florentine selection 🤤

ChristmasPlan · 12/11/2024 12:48

The Christmas Coal is lovely - honeycomb covered in chocolate with a black sherbet outside

Waffles21 · 12/11/2024 14:50

I think for Christmas you can only get made up hampers rather than choosing what goes in them ( unless of course you are in store or providing your own ‘hamper’) as pp have said, their chocolate coal is amazing, teas, jams ( esp blueberry!), marzipan fruits, brandy butter, honey, biscuits, and fig and fennel chutney, only thing I’ve been disappointed in is their piccalilli but that could just be individual taste! I’m sure whatever you buy she will love!

Poggishairtufts · 12/11/2024 14:57

I love their sparkling tea

IDareSay · 12/11/2024 15:05

You can make up your own hamper, I'm just ordering one for Christmas. The hamper liners are nice too.

Waffles21 · 12/11/2024 18:41

Ooh @IDareSay thats fab, you couldn’t last year, wonder if they’ve changed it! Good news

You have to be careful what you choose but when I was struggling I used the chat facility to get help. I couldn't see the hamper option at first as I had a food item that wasn't available as a hamper item due to it being short dated. Lady I chatted with suggested phoning to order if necessary as the website can be a little 'inflexible'!

I was in there on Saturday and it was getting busy . The choices are amazing . I bought , coffee tea and Christmas biscuits. I also bought a gift voucher and it was beautifully wrapped .

Their Smoky Earl Grey tea is lovely

This is my favourite tea in the world, so good.

HerbalRefreshmentt · 12/11/2024 19:24

Has anyone tried their fresh meat options? I really want a small ham this year to go along with other meats, and they have some good looking options under 30 or 40 quid that would be the right size for us. Im assuming they are precooked and just shipped chilled and it can live in the fridge for a few days.

Back to topic on hand - second the lemon curd biscuits. Im a fan of fondant chocolates so was looking to get the selection box to plonk out for dessert/general grazing, but most of their chocolate selections are pretty good. The Christmas cognac butter is a MUST - spread that on toasted pannetone, or a mince pie or what have you and its glorious. The champagne and strawberry preserve - use it every day. I also like the decaffeinated Royal Tea blend as does my mother, I had to order a new box and two boxes for her to take back because she drank all mine! A nice, exotic honey is always fun - i like the shropshire creamed honey.

Find out what she may be having for Christmas lunch/the holiday period and look at some condiment options. I find their customer service to be excellent, so if you call to ask for help putting a hamper together they will usually have some good ideas.

I sent a hamper one year to my parents in the US and they still talk about it - it was so much fun picking things out for them, I hope you have fun too!
