Is there anything you're hoping not to get this year?

I know how awfully ungrateful it can sound, but is there anything you're hoping you don't open?

I think for me it's another ladies Lynx set. Really not a fan of it and it always inevitably gets shoved to the back of the cupboard and forgotten about until the next year when more get added to the collection 🙃

It doesn't sound like it, but I am grateful people are thinking of me, but I'd rather just get a nice handwritten card instead 😕

I’m the same with the Baylis and Harding stuff my mil gets. I’ve never used body lotion in my 40yrs, yet I receive at least 3 bottles each year!

whirlyhead · 05/11/2024 20:28

Agreed many years ago not to exchange gifts with any family members which solved that issue. I get my partner something and vice versa and that’s it. I’m very much into minimalism and try to avoid bringing unwanted stuff into the house after throwing out 3/4 of what I own. Having less stuff is liberating!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 05/11/2024 20:31

No presents for adults in our extended family, so no unwanted stuff. Simples.

tarheelbaby · 05/11/2024 20:31

I too hope that no one gives me soap/lotion or the equivalent.
That said, you can always donate these to shelters and someone will be glad to have them.

MidnightPatrol · 05/11/2024 20:32

Beauty advent calendar.

Always end up with one, I have thousands of miniatures from various advent calendars, beauty subscriptions etc.

I don’t want more.

Tisfortired · 05/11/2024 20:35

Scarf and matching hat
Ferrero Rocher

Im not sure why but I always seem to end up with loads of the above. I went through the bag and gloves box the other day to see what we had/needed and counted I had 17 SCARVES. I wear one - which is an Oliver Bonas one I love which DH got me a couple of years ago. And I don’t like Ferrero Rocher whatsoever.

Strawbsss · 05/11/2024 20:38

Another vote for body lotion or hand creams? Never, ever used either and yet I end up with tonnes at Christmas

RJnomore1 · 05/11/2024 20:41

Pink gin 🙈 I feel terribly ungrateful but I don’t like sweet alcohol. My youngest daughter will have it though if I get some.

shellwithbellson · 05/11/2024 20:41

I hope I don't get a box of Milk Tray 🤮 or a Baylis & Harding set.

CherryBlossom321 · 05/11/2024 20:43

Clothes that I don’t like and that don’t fit (in laws).

DappledThings · 05/11/2024 20:45

Anything at all. My side of the family don't do gifts for adults. DH's have cut back but will still insist on getting me something.

I usually manage to get away with DH choosing something he wants that he can claim is for both of us to get me off the hook but this year he wants World of Warcraft stuff that they aren't going to fall for!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 05/11/2024 20:52

My mum likes to cruise TKMaxx for my ‘gifts’.

Stuff I’ll never use, and she knows I never use. Weird shower stuff that it’ll bring me out in a rash, novelty television remote holders (I don’t watch television) or weird scarves that are apparently ‘so me’ (I hate things around my neck - I have since childhood).

So any gift just reminds me that she never bothered getting to know me.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 05/11/2024 20:54

Not sure why it got hidden.

To sum up,
Bayliss and Harding,
Milk Tray
Anything from Temu.

Gettingannoyednow · 05/11/2024 20:54

Candles. I am very fussy about scents and need to pick them myself.

terracottafarm · 05/11/2024 20:56

The god awful face masks I will never ever use. Also agree with the lynx set. My mum gets me it every year. I've never used it. I have said this year, to please ask me what I need before buying things, as I don't like her wasting her money on unnecessary bits.

daisydalrymple · 05/11/2024 21:00

Notebooks.
DH has bought me one for the last 10 Christmas and birthdays and I’ve got a stack in a box unused.
sanctuary gift sets. I agreed with a friend we would have a night out in place of gifts a few years ago. She still randomly turns up with a sanctuary gift set. I hate the smell.

RuthW · 05/11/2024 21:00

Please don't give me alcohol, as I don't drink

Or candles- I have a lifetime supply already.

I'll gave all your smellies though please.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 05/11/2024 21:09

Body sets, i don't use anything other than normal bar of soap and aloe gel to moisturise

DarcyProudman · 05/11/2024 21:14

Red Lindt balls 🤮 Every blooming year…

strangeandfamiliar · 05/11/2024 21:16

Anything at all. I'm in my 50s and reached peak 'stuff' long ago. I don't want anything, and anything I actually need I can buy for myself. I'm at the age and stage where I want to divest, not accumulate. Sounds a bit curmudgeonly, but there it is.

Hedjwitch · 05/11/2024 21:18

Products from Lush
Cheap toiletry sets
Scarves
Crime/ thriller novels I wont read.

Humphreyshead · 05/11/2024 21:20

CherryBlossom321 · 05/11/2024 20:43

Clothes that I don’t like and that don’t fit (in laws).

This! Adults should not buy other adults clothes

Time40 · 05/11/2024 21:28

Things that people only give older people! A few years ago someone gave me a pot-plant, and then a couple of years later I got another one. I don't want presents that say, "I see you as old".

And bloody body lotion. What's the earthly point of body lotion? It's useless stuff. It's too thin and weak to have any effect. I'm constantly using proper hand cream, but no one ever gives me that - they just give me bottle after bottle of body lotion.

Someone gave me pillow spray once. Pillow spray! The ultimate pointless product. I hope I don't get any more of that.

Yet another manicure set
