Thanks @Travelcrazy for the title. It really tickled me!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Edited

I'm really not into TikTok and don't have the app or watch in a browser - not least because I'm trying to reduce the amount of gubbins that I see (and end up wasting time on!) online so it's easy to say I don't watch tiktok as a way of shutting somebody up who insists on spamming me with a load of TikTok videos that apparently explain everything when they are usually dodgy conspiracy theories that I don't want to be involved.

As such I know little about it other than it has links to china. How good is the stuff in these sales or indeed on the rest of TikTok or are there other ways to ignore or access the deals without using TT? Or is it worth having a look and buying some of the deals?

I realise that's a bit vague - I'm not really sure what I'm asking as I don't know enough about it I guess! But any reassurance or warnings about TT would be gratefully received - thanks!

Can anyone explain this to me? How is it a reward if you have to pay for the chocolates and a tin if you need one?

My understanding was that you could bring your own tin (I just don’t have one) or you can buy just the tin, and then the chocolate is free.

dottyaboutstripes · 07/11/2024 17:47

The chocolate isn't free. The perk is that you can fill the tin with a single type is quality street, usually you have to choose at least 3 or 4

How many households all have the same favourite quality street?! A single type would only keep one person happy in this house!

Did somebody post an offer for hi smile? My dd has just said this is on her Christmas list and I completely bypassed it on the post because I honestly didn’t think it would be something she asked for 😬

I saw a post on social media rep Hismile and it was £1.99 in either Home Bargains or BnM but I completely forgot to check when I went shopping so not sure if they still have it.

Can anyone help with some advice please? I’m looking to buy my DS a rice cooker- which would be better- a multi-cooker or a rice cooker, does anyone have experience of both please?

I use the Joseph Joseph microwave rice cooker. I can cook enough for 6 people in it, it never ever fails to cook the rice perfectly, and cleaning it is a dream. 100% recommend it. Always in Black Friday deals too so it’ll come down to £20 or below somewhere.

Should also have added - can also do just 1 portion in it fine too

The shops / Accounts aren't run or owed by TT they are individual companies and businesses that just use TT as a platform

They are an independent business with a huge warehouse
I dont know much about them personally but i have bought multiple things from them and the things have been atleast 50% off the average price
They sell all real brands and no fakes.
and you can see what your buying on the screen before ypu are buying it
The only ‘down’ side is you have to be quick, they sometimes have 4000 people watching and they all want what is currently on the screen and they may only have a hundred of them.

The ‘surprise / mystery’ boxes can be hit and miss
I got a girls one which was amazing and a boys one that was worth the money but just not things that my nephews would overly like

Its worth having a look for sure

That’s what I thought. Not sure if that is a reward; surely most people would want a choice of at least 2/3?
Bit disappointed in JL.

I’m interested in this too - I wonder how much it costs to fill up one of my old quality street tins with coffee creams….

Waitrose have bags of just QS coffee creams.

Boots often have rubber dicks in their £10 Tuesday! 😳🤣

Just catching up and proper LOLing at the rubber dicks chat 🤣🤣🤣

Thelifeofawife · 07/11/2024 18:02

@Carriemac I don’t know whether you’re referring to an airwrap or hairdryer, but if you can’t return the item for one with an undamaged box, do look on eBay and Vinted as lots of people sell them off x

lilachouse · 07/11/2024 18:06

For the shay & blue fans (me!) there’s a great gift on QVC today - you get a full size perfume, big candle and handbag perfume for slightly less than the perfume usually costs on its own

Tiktok shop 100% has fake stuff though, just type in 'Stanley cup' and see! So you do have to be careful.

But this isnt Tiktok shop

This is a company using Tiktok as a selling platform

Whaaaat that’s the worst reward ever. You can just buy pouches of one flavour anyway can’t you.
well thanks for clearing that up, I won’t bother.

I found these two products in home bargains at the weekend. Toothpaste was £1.99 and the tooth gloss was £2.99.

I don't know if anyone has explained this yet, but the chocolates are free

If you bring your own tin, you can fill it up with one sole flavour, for free.

If you buy an empty tin at John Lewis, it costs £14 (I think PP said the empty tins cost that, seems steep for an empty tin?) and you get to fill it up with one sole flavour, free.

Hattysbackpack · 07/11/2024 18:48

I got two of those M&S half price Apothecary gift sets today, in store. They are bigger than I thought, having looked at them online, and heavy! A very substantial present.

Thelifeofawife · 07/11/2024 18:55

@LePetitMaman Thank you for clarifying, that’s how I initially read it but then started to doubt myself. Thankfully I have a spare tin which I keep for baking - I wouldn’t pay £14 for a tin alone.
Anyone itching to get the offer, it may be worth checking out charity shops, etc for an empty tin

dottyaboutstripes · 07/11/2024 18:56

Ok I'm absolutely confused about the quality street now 🤣

Are you absolutely sure about this; have you tried it or work for JL?
The reward message is very badly written.
