Thread 9 - the one with a kink for L’Occitaine

Reastie · 04/11/2024 18:52

Thanks @Travelcrazy for the title. It really tickled me!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

The VTech ones are very good. They're chunky and easy to use. My 9 year old has asked for Gravitrax this year which I think is a direct result of "helping" his little sister with the VTech.

Has anyone bought / used the Play Factory balance beams and stepping stones from Smyth's? Both of mine have asked for them for playing the floor is lava, but they're 5 and 9. The beams seem to be aimed at toddlers so I'm not sure if they're strong enough?

We have the balance beam soft play version from smyths for £15, all be it for our toddler, but my DH and I are constantly asked to join in lol! Also the tik tok shop stepping stones and they are great!

Thanks @MsSheldonCooper
I got two cases of Hawkstone (one beer, one cider) for Dh and two bottles of Whispering Angel wine, which is either for the Christmas table or as emergency gifts if the need arises.
in total I had a discount of £49.50!! So both of the posh wines were effectively free and then some 🙌🏻

Edited

Brilliant - and hopefully someone else will benefit from your referral too. Nice to pay it forward 🫶

Has anyone had any issues with Laithwaites? I have set up a new account and added to my basket. Gone to check out and applied the code which it says has been accepted but the money isn’t coming off. Is it because I’m in Scotland?

Can't comment on the beam, but we have the stepping stones and they're perfectly substantial enough for our 8 and 6 year olds :)

Didn't know what to spend the TopCashback offer on. Didn't want to miss out on it either, so ended up getting a couple of dog advent calendars from Pets At Home 😀

MsSheldonCooper · 05/11/2024 20:14

per the opening post on every Christmas bargains thread by @Reastie, please can we keep all referral links to the appropriate thread (see below) otherwise this just descends into chaos.

the current thread can be found here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6

I always just book my next online shop with Waitrose / Sainsbury's (appreciate not everyone does this, but I'm disabled and so is my Mum so we have two deliveries a week)

Boxofsockss · 05/11/2024 20:26

Evening all, thanks for the Disney post. Just to say this stacks with blue light discount so I got an extra 10% on top of the Quidco offer!! Thank you

ruralwanderer · 05/11/2024 20:29

@onedayatatime73, I've been keeping a watch on M&S as my mum also adored the Apothecary gift basket I got her last year and noticed yesterday that Ocado stock several of the products and have 25% off at the moment (on a £60 spend). Could be handy if you don't want to wait and/or need other stuff from Ocado anyway.

fishfingersandchipsagain · 05/11/2024 20:29

I gave given up on Hamleys for Quidco. It’s at the point where I would pay them just so I didn’t have to use their website!

YeahWellWhyNot · 05/11/2024 20:34

I gave up on hamleys last year when I placed an order, waited two weeks and then noticed on the dispatch notice that the main gift was removed as 'out of stock' so was only recieving my add on items . cue argument with hamleys as I was still available to add the item to a new basket on website...had to pay over the odds elsewhere in the end. never again.

Next request from me- any recommendations for Affirmations Cards for a slightly Anxious nearly 8 year old- doesn't actually have to be a bargain! Thanks.

Abel and the Label on Instagram do the most wonderful affirmation and positive kids mental health products.

hugsandpugs · 05/11/2024 20:40

fishfingersandchipsagain · 05/11/2024 20:01

Yes you can

Yay! Bought a £5 asda one as I’ll use that in the next couple of days. It’s tracked straight away so had the £2.13 ready to transfer plus it activated the £26 cash back offer I had signed up for a couple of weeks ago with money saving expert deal so it gave me £28.13 available to payout 😊👍🏻

JenniferGreenHat · 05/11/2024 20:42

George clothing at Asda have Christmas Guinea pig clothing. For humans. Little jumpers for guinea pigs would be amazing. Again, for the person looking. Sorry if it has been mentioned before!

Oh no, I thought it was on everything. I couldn't get onto disney via quidco anyway.

I bought mine from smyths they have it £10 cheaper than the Disney store. They were also doing a £5 off £50 so ended up paying £65. That deals finished but they seem to have offers on different items so maybe keep an eye on them

gaggiagirl · 05/11/2024 20:56

Argos £8 off an £80 spend if anyone wants it ANFARYELCNUM

IlovePond · 05/11/2024 21:14

@sillygoof - I have only just discovered Aldi and even more recently via these threads, the skincare. I am loving the sleep oil, (wish I had bought more), and the SR Vit c and turmeric oil, (ditto), and the Drunk Elephant whipped cream dupe.

It’s all gone round here - should have got more whilst I was up north, (they had lots in Thirsk Aldi!)

You may find they decline it because of this.

Fancyateapottea · 05/11/2024 21:32

@CalliopePlantain Have you managed to get this to work? I’ve filled a basket but it’s saying the code isn’t valid
