I have a quorn roast with veggie gravy and then the same as everyone else with it

Awrite · 03/11/2024 16:21

I just eat all the veggies.

KhakiShaker · 03/11/2024 16:22

nut roast

LittleRedRidingHoody · 03/11/2024 16:24

Quorn roast, AND nut roast, AND all the veggies here 😂

LorettyTen · 03/11/2024 16:25

We eat meat but have vegan and vegetarian guests at Christmas. I get a nut roast/veg pie/similar and make both veg and meat gravies. Nobody has ever complained or asked for anything else so it must be ok! We all have the same potatoes and vegetables but I don't use animal fats like I normally would.

Screamingabdabz · 03/11/2024 16:27

I have all the same dinner just without the meat and a veggy gravy. I love all the veg and roasts so that’s enough for me.

Neveragain35 · 03/11/2024 16:27

I’m the only veggie so I quite like finding a nice recipe for me while DH deals with the meat! Usually something involving pastry, last year I did a butternut squash wellington. Everyone else wanted to try it too, obvs.

LochNessy · 03/11/2024 16:28

Mushroom and Stilton pie (usually from lidl) and then mash and all the veg (and sage and onion stuffing)

Octavia64 · 03/11/2024 16:30

We're all veggies as a whole family.

We have done:
Nut roast
Sausages
Complicated layered terrine from a Christmas book
Roasted stuffed butternut squash
Parsnip and cheese roulade (too complicated)
Spinach and feta pie from Lidl
Linda McCartney pies
Higgidy pies

Bobbie12345 · 03/11/2024 16:30

Mushroom Wellington and all the usual veggies.

Yes me too! Yum!

But I make extra effort and make the pie as it's Christmas.

I feed my resident veggie with a suitable main, such as a nut roast or pastry something. Plus a jug of veggie gravy and veggie pigs in blankets.

All accompanying veg is veggie. Sprouts with chestnuts instead of bacon. Regular roasties instead of goose fat.

Needmorelego · 03/11/2024 16:32

I usually have something like a microwave veggie lasagne (slightly posher version than usual supermarket one if I can).
I not only don't eat the meat but I really don't like roast potatoes, stuffing and the types of vegetables that traditionally come with a roast.
If I absolutely HAD to I could force some roasties and maybe carrots down me but it really wouldn't be an enjoyable meal for me.
Everyone else in the family likes the traditional meal so they have that. I have something that can be bunged in the microwave so not to create extra cooking for the chef (my husband).
Oh.....and no one cares or thinks I'm rude btw.
Oh I do eat sausages and bacon so I sometimes grab a few pigs in blankets (I'm not a complete veggie 🐷)

SometimesCalmPerson · 03/11/2024 16:34

If there’s a good enough range of veggies, a meat substitute isn’t needed. I feel like I’m missing out if there’s no cauliflower cheese though.

Mimiconvos · 03/11/2024 16:35

Nut roast with loads of pickled red cabbage on top 🤤

HonestPayforHonestWork · 03/11/2024 16:36

I make homemade seitan and use that as a meat replacement in lots of things. It’s high protein and very simple to make, only 3 ingredients. I also eat tofu.

Also I try not to have it throughout the year so it’s extra special on Xmas day 🤣 I then eat my body weight in Nut roast 🤤

AutumnLeaves24 · 03/11/2024 16:40

I have my Christmas dinner at a friends. We've tried out different options over the years (me making & taking something like a mushroom & ale pie/me taking a ready made something, him making something, veggie sausages etc etc) but it all involves grudge/freezer space they don't have, oven space they can't spare, another thing for him to think about, get the timing right) until I could convince them I'm more than happy with the veg & Yorkshire puds (yes we do! ) they only make gravy from bisto snyway (not meat juices) and roast in veg oil not meat stuff.

i suppose it would be nice to go somewhere, with a chef catering & making more fussy dishes, where the food is the absolute focus, but I'm happier with a basic roast minus the meat and another drink & board game.

Saschka · 03/11/2024 16:40

Varies - DH and I quite like a nut roast, DS and my wider family aren’t really interested.

So if it’s just the three of us, DH and I have a nut roast and DS just has a tonne of veggies which is what he actually wants anyway (roast potatoes, sprouts, carrots, swede, red cabbage, parsnips, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding). If DM or DBro are coming, I make or buy a mushroom wellington or some kind of filo tart, plus veggies.

How are you veggie at all?!

Needmorelego · 03/11/2024 16:47

@MaroonyBalloony I'm not a vegetarian but the only meat I like is bacon, pork sausages, pepperoni etc (and weirdly McDonald's burgers).
I don't like any other meats and I physically cannot eat meat I don't like.
If I am going to meal I usually pick the vegetarian choice because I know I am more likely to be able to eat it.

Ah, I was just thinking about red cabbage. With cranberry sauce too!

ItTook9Years · 03/11/2024 16:50

Parsnip and cheese roulade (too complicated)

It so isn’t. I’ve made 4 at a time every year for 25 years.

We don’t do Xmas in December but I always have one in the freezer to bring out in July. It’s absolute heaven.

OnionBudgie · 03/11/2024 16:54

My go-to recipe is a green lentil & walnut nut roast, from Rose Elliot's The Bean Book. It's absolutely delicious. I serve it with mashed potatoes, veg gravy, and all the usual vegetables.
