I just saw that Tesco delivery slots open on 5th November. Last year they opened at 6am.

Why can’t they do it at a weekend when most people aren’t working?

needhelpwiththisplease · 02/11/2024 08:59

Delivery pass priority slots 5th
Everyone else 12th

Joycedelight · 02/11/2024 09:12

Yes it says they open at 6am on Tuesday

Because their IT team don’t want to be working weekends making sure the website and apps stay up as they are deluged with demand. They can stagger demand (only mad keen people will be online at 6am), and it’s a quiet ish time of the day for everything else.

Snorlaxo · 02/11/2024 11:13

There is no time that suits everyone. A weekend would have people complaining about not being able to sleep in.

I remember when Christmas slots were released at midnight 🤔

DustyLee123 · 02/11/2024 12:00

I’m not mad keen, but I will be on at 6am as I’ve got to go to work.

Elephanttrunk · 02/11/2024 12:31

I'll be on at 6am to book a slot as I'm hosting this year. What do we think is the ideal day to get a delivery fo all the Christmas dinner bits?

I'm going for the Sunday hopefully so I have a couple of days to get bits if they are out of stock for the online order.

ByMerryKoala · 02/11/2024 12:39

Meh, I'm sick of it, it's too much fuss. I got in the queue at a few minutes past six least year with something like 160,000 ahead of me. Only to get a slot on the 22nd. Then I ended up having to go to the shops to get all the things that didn't make the delivery.

Given the most painful bit of Christmas shopping is putting it through the checkout and that can been avoided with the scan and shop - I'm just going back to hitting the shops and fighting it out like the olden days.

Elephanttrunk · 02/11/2024 13:43

@ByMerryKoala I can understand your reasoning, I just can't stand the food shopping on a normal week nevermind the christmas shop so would rather get the majority (hopefully) delivered and pick up/send dh out for anything that doesn't make it.

I'm aiming for the Sunday too I think, gives me a couple of days to chase down anything missed if required

FredaFox · 02/11/2024 20:38

I much preferred it at midnight
Got straight in and sorted quickly every time

DreamyMe · 04/11/2024 18:54

Thanks for the heads up.

Joycedelight · 05/11/2024 05:54

Anyone in the queue?

Trumpton · 05/11/2024 05:54

Morning all. Poised and ready to go? Bright eyed and bushy tailed?

Welcome. Your wait time is more than an hour…..

MsChatterbox · 05/11/2024 06:07

Yes wait time more than a hour for me too! I'm hoping I don't have to keep the Tesco app on my screen but just open in the background?! Wishing I signed in on the laptop instead!

Dontopenthetrapdoor · 05/11/2024 06:19

I'm in the queue as well. Surprised by the more than an hour wait. I'm sure I haven't had to wait as long in previous years.

DogMa1 · 05/11/2024 06:24

Been and done it all. It is letting you book as many slots as you want and is booking from now till new years eve. NYE is approximate, I was very excited.

Dontopenthetrapdoor · 05/11/2024 06:29

That's good @DogMa1 I'm going backwards in the queue. My wait time was 53 minutes then 54 minutes. I'm very restricted as to when I can accept a delivery due to work hours, if I don't get a slot I am going to have to do my Christmas shop on Christmas eve with my 7 year old in tow. A fate worse than death!

NothingIsWhatItSeems · 05/11/2024 06:43

I’ve just got slots for 15th, 23rd and 30th.

Hope everyone gets the slots they need. 🤞

LuckysDadsHat · 05/11/2024 06:43

I am all done and have booked all of December's well the 28th December which is what I wanted as not doing anything for new years. It seemed a lot quicker for me this year and a lot easier. The app didn't crash once which is a miracle!

Trumpton · 05/11/2024 06:57

All done, every delivery I wanted from now until end of December. That was quickest on App. Google on iPad and Firefox on pc we’re about 5 mins behind.

I am disabled, so have used online shopping at Tesco pretty much since it started.
i so preferred it when the slots opened at midnight. I am a night owl, and getting up early is impossible for me anyway because of my physical limitations.
This will be my 40th consecutive year of cooking Christmas dinner, so the whole day is like a well oiled machine in our house.
We now have a family of 14, and in order to keep things working well I have stayed up all night, and will go to bed when my slot is booked.
I do this every week for my regular slot, but of course that opens at midnight.
it is far easier for me to stay up than to get up.
so, having logged in at 00.00, at 06.00 the site said I had more than an hour to wait. Now, an hour later it says about 40minutes!!

i would love to know how the site organises the queue! Goodness knows what time others logged in to have a shorter wait!

PS. I always have my Christmas shop delivered on 23rd dec. optimising the freshness, and balancing the possible need to pop out to get items the staff haven’t sent.
