For DH it’s a really strong cheddar. Far stronger than supermarkets seem to sell.
We each get a box of Hotel Chocolat which we start on Christmas Eve and mine last a few weeks. I will get an alcohol free Rum. Used to have real rum at Christmas but developed a sudden allergy. I may think of others but those are the ones that immediately come to mind.

I was a very occasional drinker. I was also a real lightweight so after two rum and Diet Coke I would be laughing at my own shoelaces. Then out of the blue in my late twenties I started to get uncomfortable pains in my jaw and cheeks if I had rum or a glass of wine. Then the pains were dreadful and I couldn’t swallow. So yep out of the blue I became allergic to alcohol. It’s not just rum though. All alcohol.

@Pinkkisugarmouse

im sorry? That's awful. It's a scary reaction to whatever you're allergic to!

Being allergic to alcohol is crap!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/10/2024 09:56

A big tub of Twiglets (largely for a visiting dd)
Mulled wine, preferably home made, but I don’t turn my nose up at M&S’s.
Loads of mince pies, which I start making on 1st December. Followed by several more batches, since dh inhales them..
Brandy butter for the pud.
Plenty of chocolates, not fussed about brands, for after 🎄dinner and into the New Year.

Lots of proper fresh orange juice for Buck’s Fizz on 🎄Day, plus plenty of fizz, of course.
Smoked salmon, cream cheese and bagels for 🎄Day breakfast.

Weepingwillows12 · 28/10/2024 09:59

I usually have one mince pie a year early December to start off Christmas festivities. I love the days out like pantomime, school carol concerts etc and just seeing everyone's lights up more than Christmas itself. Love a cold frosty evening walk around.

We quite often also have a baked camembert some evening near Christmas and I only ever eat turkish delight or maltesers from a box at Christmas too even though you can get those things all year.

AsFunAsEnglishWeather · 28/10/2024 21:00

Fortnum & Mason Merrilossus biscuits - absolutely amazing and very £££ but I am addicted since getting them in a small thank you hamper from a client one year. I buy enough so I can have one a day from when I clock off from work in December to when I re-start in January - and I make sure I eat each one quietly before the teens get up.

BibbityBobbityToo · 28/10/2024 21:03

Delia Smith Christmas chutney made in August and matured to December 😋

rickyrickygrimes · 28/10/2024 21:09

Pigs in blankets
Stuffing balls
Smoked back bacon in morning rolls.

That’s it really. We live in France so have excellent cheese, chocolate and wine throughout the year anyway. But the above are only available at my mums in Scotland, so they are the big treat. We’re going back this year and I can’t wait!

Thetrickcyclist · 28/10/2024 21:09

Lübecker chocolate-coated marzipan from Lidl
Stollen from Lidl
Home made Dundee cake

Homemade tiffin with cherries & glaze ginger
homemade gingerbread
homemade cream horns
homemade chocolate truffles
m&s 'party food' for Christmas Eve
Veggie full-English for Boxing Day lunch
Fortnum'a chocolossus biscuits

My Mum always made the cream horns for Christmas Day 'tea' and it's a tradition I've continued. My husband and I made truffles our first Christmas together, and we now make them as a family on Christmas Eve. The tiffin is something I've made with my kids as a 'gifts for DH since they were tiny (and he generously shares).

HermoinePotter · 28/10/2024 22:00

ALL the cheese. It’s an annual Christmas outing for us to go to the cheese pantry 😂. We don’t like sweet things so splash out on a massive cheeseboard.

pestowithwalnuts · 28/10/2024 22:16

Big tub (or 2) of Quality St.
The quality or Roses and After8s isn't the same anymore.
Lots of different cheeses ordered from The Cheese Shop.
Walnuts and Hazelnuts in their shells
Salted peanuts
Salted mixed nuts.
Pate
Pickled onions
Turkish delight which I decant into a 'turkish' style tin
M&S shortbread
M&S chocolate biscuits
Biscuits for cheese
Brandy cream
Large dipped flakes for the stockings from the chocolate shop in Ambleside
DH thinks I should get a box of Ferrero Roches he says he's not keen on them but it wouldn't be Christmas without them.

pestowithwalnuts · 28/10/2024 22:18

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 27/10/2024 13:49

Tia Maria and Baileys - used for Christmas baking, adding to hot chocolate and generally just enjoying of a cold dark evening.

Brie and saltine crackers, salted cashews, mini sausage rolls.

I'll make some Nigella Christmas fruit cake and snack on that for a few weeks - yum!

Is that the one with chocolate in ?

Inextremis · 28/10/2024 22:21

Stinking Bishop (for me)
Home-made gingerbread men
Dry sherry
The ingredients for Bloody Marys
Rose and violet cremes
Christmas Eve - kedgeree with really good smoked haddock
The Christmas Dinner - this year it's a posh chicken 'cos there's only two of us, but must have stuffing, roast potatoes, sprouts, carrots, broccoli, pigs in blankets, and a slice of ham, with bread sauce and cranberry sauce, and - of course - gravy.
St Stephen's/Boxing Day - green salad, cold turkey, stuffing, cold ham, hot mashed potato, pickled walnuts (see above!), Branston

Strong cheddar cheese - Looking for your recommendations for the strongest cheddar cheese you can buy. I like Black Bomber or Rockstar but would be intrigued if anyone has any recommendations for the really strong stuff you can't buy on the high street.

I love cinnamon biscuits
Spiced shortbread
Lots of cheese and the cheese bakes from Aldi with crackers and chutney/chilli jam
Smoked salmon
Lots of pate
Parma ham
Caramel baileys

Livinginacatdictatorship · 29/10/2024 05:41

Any suggestions for buying cheese online? Love some good cheese at Christmas but where we are there isn't really many places that have a good variety beyond what you would usually find in the supermarket.

Feliciacat · 29/10/2024 05:49

Bread sauce and stuffing! Also Xmas themed alcohol like mulled wine or Bailey’s. I’ve never been very into Xmas snacks as I don’t like aniseed or ginger and I’m generally not a dessert person. Wow, what fun I am!
