Posh adult "stocking" presents

CurlewKate · 23/10/2024 12:41

I need some posh small presents. 4 for men and 4 for women. Maybe 10/15 quid each? I want them to be a bit out of the ordinary-and something they won't want to recycle immediately. The recipients are between 23 and 28.Any ideas?

A decent travel cup - I've got a Yeti one on my wish list but Camelbak ones are a bit cheaper and also really good

Contigo Autoseal are leak proof, can use one handed and are about £18. I never go anywhere without mine!

This novel by Ciaran Carson is another good Christmas read, and includes illustrations of the various pens mentioned. It's too gentle to be a romance or a thriller, but has elements of both. If you are giving someone a nice pen, maybe this book could be another stocking filler?

Molten Brown shower gel Christmas baubles. There’s 20% off right now too.

I can't think of anything useful at all! Jellycats - just why?? Mine are 20, 27, 28 and 30 and absolutely agree. Ditto soap and other stuff - they have it. If they needed cashmere wrist warmers no doubt they'd buy them (apart from student dd who'd lose them).

We all have so so much stuff now. I'm not against buying presents at all, just don't want to spend money on what no-one wants or needs.

Mumwithbaggage · 25/10/2024 22:15

Absolutely stuck on stuff for dd (child 4) who is nearly 21 and will be the only one home at Christmas. It's so hard!

I have a Beast, they are purple* - want a cold drink that is still cold 12hrs later?

*other colours are available

I have a few in this category to buy for. My list so far for them is (and with consultation and input): posh olive oil, hot chocolate ball, cheese knife, nice shower gel, cashmere socks.

My view is it has to be something does not matter if they already have one - so consumable.

I went in to an RNLI shop the other day and there were some nice things https://shop.rnli.org/ @Mumwithbaggage if you'd like to give something meaningful? I no longer support Oxfam, but maybe Doctors without Borders or Cafod or such charities might do 'virtual' presents?

A friend once made Christmas gifts of homemade biscuits in jars with a pretty ribbon when she didn't have much disposable income; she was no great chef but I happily ate them :D

Is there a small heirloom you could pass on, doesn't have to be valuable?

That's why stuff you can eat or drink and get rid of is such a good idea. Soap and flowers come into that category too.

I don't know about "posh" but here are some adult ideas (that aren't utter tat).

Book of stamps
Coffee gift card
Nice ball point pen
Small triple Milled soap
Small packet of decent chocolate

They said posh not boring,lol.

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 26/10/2024 01:49

I'd like a pet ferret or three

More things that jumped to mind:

  • Stanley cup. Either the tumbler or the one with the flip straw
  • if you get the tumbler you can get ice moulds off Amazon (or other sites) which line the wall of the Stanley exactly to help keep water cool all day.
  • if you’re anti-Stanley then Owala water bottles are trendy now. (NOT Yeti or Hydroflask)
  • towelling cuffs and matching head band for skincare routine. The cuffs go on your wrist and over your pyjama sleeves and stop you getting water down your arms when cleansing your face. It sounds stupid but I swear they go down a storm with the skincare girlies.
  • for students or those in cold houses: a plug-in heated throw blanket or those super long hot water bottles
  • if you have a millennial daughter who was a Jacqueline Wilson fanatic as a child then Wilson has brought out an adult book called “think again” which is a follow up on the “girls” series where the characters are now adults.
  • for fitness/gym girls there’s these ankle weights called Bala bangles which are very in atm
  • for the barre/pilates/yoga girlies - new grippy socks from sweaty betty/Alo yoga/gymshark
  • Also for gym girls and guys: a box of favourite protein bars - Oreo grenades are popular. Always appreciated as they’re expensive to buy as normal grocery spends.
  • a real boar bristle brush from Kent or Denman
  • if you have a woman of any age who has more nature-based/whimsical style then Fable England have the most adorable jewellery with animals and nature on. They also have other accessories now too.
  • Chanel compact mirror
HelenHywater · 26/10/2024 07:35

I have a 24 yo dd - she'd love the Dior lip oil. Cherry is the famous shade (015) and is often out of stock (I tried to get it last Christmas for her).

I don't think there is a standard list that all 24 yo women would like - it depends what they're into - my dd is into knitting, so she'd like knitting stuff!

But I think loungewear - nice socks probably in this price range go down well too.

I also have a 25 yo ds - I have no idea what to get him! As he's my son, I'll get him underwear, but beyond that I don't know.

Are your friends into anything?
I have recently purchased something from here for a friend who is mad about cricket

Thanks all very helpful.

I don't think I'm posh enough for this thread.

But on another note, wtf wants
Seeds and bird food for christmas 😐

LastNight1Dreamt1WentToManderleyAgain · 26/10/2024 12:47

unisex gift of a good quality compass and an Ordnance Survey map for a beauty spot nearby or that they'd like to visit

Me! Well, the bird feed anyway. I feed the birds in my garden and they cost me more to feed than the dog does, in winter. Little buggers can chomp their way through a sack of birdfeed in a couple of weeks (all that they don't kick out and spread all over the flowerbeds, that is). So someone buying me (them) some nice, good-grade birdseed would be saving me a fortune. And they can buy me things like hanging coconuts or sunflower kernels that I don't buy myself because they are too pricey - and who knows, I might get my woodpecker back!

My friends know!
Can't bear the Amazon warehouse working conditions or the effect on many small business in areas I care about.

What are the amazon warehouse working conditions? Out of interest......and what's your experience of them?

That's very person specific though, hardly a generic idea for a gift

Yeah that’s true! I live in London. The “old money aesthetic” as it’s being dubbed has had quite the renaissance - seeing lots of Barbour jackets knocking around, Ralph Lauren jumpers etc.

If you like the idea of gifting nightwear/loungewear and also like the idea of gifting ethically then check out Tom’s Trunks. I can honestly say it’s some of the best quality stuff I have and has got better with washing it. Small business and “slow fashion”.

Barbours & R.L have always been around here, Putney/Fulham way. Its a staple.

Good thread OP, leather key rings are a good call. I got a flower Mulberry one reduced from £95 to £20. Not sure if they do Black Friday but worth a try.

CurlewKate · 26/10/2024 13:34

I very very much doubt that I am unique.
