Posh adult "stocking" presents

I need some posh small presents. 4 for men and 4 for women. Maybe 10/15 quid each? I want them to be a bit out of the ordinary-and something they won't want to recycle immediately. The recipients are between 23 and 28.Any ideas?

@Chestnut134 what is wrong with the Yeti travel mug? Are they totally uncool? I love the one I've been borrowing off my husband!

Please don't buy soap as a gift, it is completely unappreciated and totally overrated. Smart shower gel for men usually appreciated though.

I'd love soap!
Please don't talk for me 🤔

I love posh bar soap, and so do my posh, quite glamorous 20 something dds.

Lifestooshort71 · 26/10/2024 16:49

(My English teacher would have been horrified by the lazy use of 'nice' on this thread (she still controls me 50 years down the line) and I personally can't stand 'girlies')
As you were......

faffadoodledo · 26/10/2024 17:05

Yes to posh bar soap from me and my twenty somethings. But it has to be proper posh (ie French!).

Have you looked at the Wentworth Puzzles website? They are wooden, high quality, lots of lovely designs.

Absolutely love this thread. Thanks for some great ideas
My 23 yr old loves a detailed paint by numbers

These also make wonderful gifts and are decidedly posher than Hotel Chocolat. They featured in the FT’s how to spend it and Courtney Love revealed she has a box in her fridge at all times!

These jigsaws are beautiful (in my opinion), but they are out of the price range of this thread!

I think the OP actively wants luxy ideas though - presumably your DH isn't late 20s?

He was once, many years ago.

Tickets to an exhibition if they're into going to exhibitions? Or to some kind of 'experience' or 'taster class' in something they're interested in? Then they can moan that you are fuddy duddy for buying them a ticket for an Unspontaneous Activity, but secretly be pleased that you were organised enough to think of them.

Axe throwing can be expensive, but only women have suggested axe throwing to me, so I assume it's a unisex activity. Archery? Dance class, or dance event with 'taxi dancers'?

Possibly the worst present I was given in my 20s was a flat metal cat silhouette figurine. Or (from an ex) a bouquet of nightshade (discount flowers -- he was cheap and the florist was clueless) that ever so slightly poisoned me.

If they've set up home in some way, how about one of those things 'everyone' seems to have if they've had a big wedding or generous family, but really very few people have? Pretty nutcrackers, honey sticks, chopsticks, cocktail stirrers, a funny animal draught excluder, a lovely tiny painted key cupboard/spice cabinet.

More things that jumped to mind:

  • Stanley cup. Either the tumbler or the one with the flip straw
  • if you get the tumbler you can get ice moulds off Amazon (or other sites) which line the wall of the Stanley exactly to help keep water cool all day.
  • if you’re anti-Stanley then Owala water bottles are trendy now. (NOT Yeti or Hydroflask)
  • towelling cuffs and matching head band for skincare routine. The cuffs go on your wrist and over your pyjama sleeves and stop you getting water down your arms when cleansing your face. It sounds stupid but I swear they go down a storm with the skincare girlies.
  • for students or those in cold houses: a plug-in heated throw blanket or those super long hot water bottles
  • if you have a millennial daughter who was a Jacqueline Wilson fanatic as a child then Wilson has brought out an adult book called “think again” which is a follow up on the “girls” series where the characters are now adults.
  • for fitness/gym girls there’s these ankle weights called Bala bangles which are very in atm
  • for the barre/pilates/yoga girlies - new grippy socks from sweaty betty/Alo yoga/gymshark
  • Also for gym girls and guys: a box of favourite protein bars - Oreo grenades are popular. Always appreciated as they’re expensive to buy as normal grocery spends.
  • a real boar bristle brush from Kent or Denman
  • if you have a woman of any age who has more nature-based/whimsical style then Fable England have the most adorable jewellery with animals and nature on. They also have other accessories now too.
  • Chanel compact mirror

Most spot on tips I’ve read in years. Thank you.

I bought a lovely Liberty London cracker last year that was around that budget.
If the person does a craft or is crafty a mini crochet kit or a handmade crochet hook- (Etsy)
A silk pillowcase.
Nice gifty things on Lisa Angel or Not on the high street.
Holly & Co is a good place to find gifts from independent designers.
If they're into music- Rough Trade records has some good merch. They also sell mini 'dolls' like Mattel type things in famous musician styles like sex pistols, Jimi Hendrix etc..bit odd but different.
Musician- cd's, vinyl record cleaning cloth, guitar plecs, chord book, Plec cutter (like a hole punch to make your own plecs)
Cool music related book I had my eye on 'us and them' is about Hipgnosis the company that designed loads of famous album covers. It's on the Rough Trade website.
Emma Bridgewater 1/2 pint mug.
If they like trains the London transport.museum has good stuff on their website shop.

It just goes to show how subjective taste is - nearly everything on here would be straight to the charity shop/food bank if it was given to me. Perhaps not stamps or a Costa card but just about everything else.

one thing I have bought in the past that has been a big hit are personalised drinks glasses. They aren't expensive and are very adaptable, if they are a beer drinker you buy a beer glass, champagne or Prosecco = a flute. If they don't drink alcohol you can buy latte/hot chocolate or water glasses.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/114125692132?_skw=personalised+champagne+flutes&var=414383331899&itmmeta=01JAZKCM6CM3SDMBF1464SNG28&hash=item1a926bdce4:g:MZAAAOSwQxhjGNV3&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAABAHoV3kP08IDx%2BKZ9MfhVJKkpMaSgEgEj%2FG0CUI9hfYHnVB%2F%2BO4lCMi5b8PfWiTJf93QdbUa8sRjeUnaHntMqhukqeKvWKPIRaUghOhBcjBa5QXhFkVXsZ1mpxayi7W0Zp890%2B9FlxYsB%2FbTnPRIzas5wmooRuTumFcpbhWJDte4d3IJSiJTHs%2Fm4KmU5FOyXbGU1%2BbJMr%2FD10s%2FJ4vV7ar54rP05L2R6pUTtD%2FINABkUbMsQ8pPyV9Ea6NRc498PO8--E7a4bNA8gNmDaYRn0%2Bq6LALeX87ND%2FyHiSOS5koKZYVdVnRQk4kKt%2FFDQBsXY%2FnaEUMK47wNthmZ3IU7%2FMg%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6TDsvPXZA

This company are very helpful (I'm not employed by them - honest).

Agree about the personalized glasses. Pick the glass that goes with their fave drink and get it engraved with their name as minimum.
Always gone down well when I've given them

If they are a cocktail drinker, get a pack of various cocktail adornments and dried fruit slices. With or without the appropriate glass.

What I would love is wine, better than the ones I normally buy at around the £8 mark and small batch chocolate, happy with any chocolate tbh, but I do like to try exclusive ones.
