Feeling quite delighted to have most of the dc’s shopping done and under €500 so far! I can tend to go crazy at Christmas 😬

I have spent €436 so far. And I have bought

DD11
Jumper
Nike leggings
Sephora goodies -bath bombs, lip gloss, hair oil, travel containers.
Initialled Glass cup
Small panda bag for accessories
Panda Teddy
Sanitary wear bag
Slushy maker
New York jigsaw
Eiffel Tower puzzle
Socks
MGA miniverse set
Full length Mirror for her bedroom
clothes rail for her bedroom
Small panda ornament
Panda hair towel
Panda face mitt
Nintendo sports game
Nintendo sports accessory pack

DS9
Hoody
Lion teddy
Elephant teddy
Football pen Holder
Vbucks voucher
Fidget popper game
Darts board

I still have a good bit to get for DS though he is getting a PlayStation (second hand) and a game and couple of Lego sets.

DD is pretty much done I might pop into primark and get some baskets for the bottom shelf of the clothes rail and pjs etc

Have you totalled your spend so far?

Haven't even started yet, althp7gh I have an idea of what it should be for my DS. Interesting to see all teddies for ds9. Does he play with them?

He loves cuddling them in bed and he said a few weeks back that he has only one teddy to cuddle at my house (his others at his dads house) and I did suggest bringing some to mine but he couldn’t decide which ones. So to save the heartache I got him two. ā¤ļø

I’ve done my kid’s Xmas shopping and haven’t spent more than $100 as he gets lots from grandparents and uncles too so no point accumulating more clutter; however we don’t consider clothing gifts- we buy as needed so about half the stuff you’ve gotten it wouldn’t even register to him that is a gift.

That seems rather rude...

I can’t believe you count every single penny when it comes to presents for your own children!

Wait, what?

WiserOlderElf · 20/10/2024 18:53

SanctusInDistress · 20/10/2024 18:52

I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks that list is way OTT.

That’s ok, because no one is making you buy that amount of stuff for your child.

Bit weird to hang around the Christmas board then shit over the posts where people talk about the presents they've got so far isn't it?

Serene135 · 20/10/2024 18:57

I like these type of posts (seeing lists of presents to get ideas). There’s nothing wrong with being organised and buying early if you can. I personally hate the panic of buying things closer to Christmas. Thanks for sharing your lists, OP! One thing though which others have mentioned is the sanitary bag which might cause a little embarrassment if the present is opened in front of others (unless it is not obvious at a glance as to what it actually is).

Lifeomars · 20/10/2024 18:58

i spend about £500 on the whole of Christmas and that breaks me financially and emotionally as I hate the whole thing. i know many people love it but I loathe it more with every passing year. Of course I have had some good Christmases but on balance there have been some nightmare ones too. I just want to hide in my house and wait for it to be over. I like Halloween though, short and to the point. Christmas seems to start mid October and drag on until the second week of January.

Only on MN do people go on about how we should only have one or two gifts and they should all be handmade bla bla bla

having said that I haven’t started yet but that’s because 3 out of 4 of my DC birthdays are in November. DID NOT plan that well.

Whothefuckdoesthat · 20/10/2024 19:00

SanctusInDistress · 20/10/2024 18:48

Or maybe yes. Who knows. Or maybe somebody else reading the thread who was about to go out and buy a pile of meaningless tat will think twice. You never know.

It’s too late for me but I’m sure others will be happy for some inspiration. What did you buy your DC last Christmas?

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 20/10/2024 19:00

@Positivenancy where is the sanitary wear bag from? I might get on for my DD.

I've spent about £120 so far on DS but it's special releases of things so needed to pre order them.

Spent about £80 on DH so far

I pick up things through the year and try to get it all finished before November's paypacket

Positivenancy · 20/10/2024 19:02

@ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS it’s from Temu. It’s v cute

It was originally in the trending section. I see I’ve hit a nerve. Hahahaha. I’m not sure why it bothers you all so much that I think these Xmas present lists are full of plastic tat. Enjoy your quantity of tat!

' The sanitary wear bag is cute and she loves that kind of stuff! She doesn’t NEED it yet but she’s 11 so she probably will at some point.'

please do not give what could be considered an essential item for Christmas

and she may be highly embarrassed to receive it at Christmas in public - in front of her father and / or in front of her brother.

have you been shopping with her to buy sanitary products yet ?
if so give her this item now and say you saw it and thought it was ' cute ' and she could put it away / aside for later use
if not, say to her that you are going shopping for these items and this is something to start her off.

Sorry of this sounds a bit contrary, not trying to pick a fight with you personally or anything, but I feel quite strongly that there is nothing embarrassing about having periods, it's a perfectly normal aspect of life for most women. It's quite possible that OP's family are cool with this, and there is no way the daughter will be embarrassed.

I have previously gifted my daughter a little bag for sanitary products - it was cute and had cats on it. It wasn't an "essential item" just because it was linked with periods. It's quite possible just to carry san pro in your bag. It's just a cute little purse for it I thought she might like. (In truth she wasn't that bothered and I seem to recall it got repurposed by one of us in the end).

If don't think it's a bad Xmas present at all, any more than socks or pyjamas.....

Somebody gave their kid a duvet set they said. That's more an essential item than a san pro purse! (And I don't think it's bad either .....)

I don’t know why it bothers you so much what someone else, who you don’t know, buys their child.
I spend about half what the OP does. I have no issues with what other people spend on their children though, or with that they choose to buy them.

PeloMom · 20/10/2024 19:09

@Notmanyleftnow how so?

Mrsmch123 · 20/10/2024 19:10

I love these kind of list for ideas. Im just about done with my three year olds Xmas. It's all wrapped and up the loftšŸ™ˆ. Just looking for a "main" present but might struggling as he's got all the usual big items. We have probably spent around Ā£400.

But all trending topics belong to a board?

No nerves hit here why would you think that?! This place gets weirder by the day.

Only on here do you get people calling you names and getting verbally abjsive and trolling because you reply to their posts and point out why their behaviour isn't normal.

You might think trolling from board to board and slinging insults is clever but it just means you've ran out of anything intelligent to say.

Still, keeps you off the streets I suppose.

Commonsense22 · 20/10/2024 19:14

I have bought a 5 pound craft piece for a friend and plan on spending £30 for dc's present. Well, it's actually £29.99

Plan on investing dh and my present money in a piece of furniture we need.

If I had a house big enough for more stuff and money to buy more stuff I would though. I will spend about £150 on Christmas food and buy small gifts for extended family.
