8 maids a milking

A few years ago I started buying beautiful baubles that were loosely connected to the 12 Days of Christmas song (think more John Lewis ‘beautiful’ than the eBay 12 Days of Christmas centrepiece ‘beautiful’ - iykyk)

I’m down to the trickiest ones now, and just feel really stuck on 8 maids a milking. I’ve found a carton of oat milk and a highland cow but they just aren’t my idea of ‘beautiful’. Any creative and beautiful ideas anyone? I’ll pop what I have already below;

vintage golden pear
iridescent white dove
copper hen
glass robin
golden bell
(not found my goose a laying yet)
Roccoco swan
(not found maid a milking yet)
gold dancing slippers
wooden jumping nutcracker
gold cherub with a pipe
* (not found a drummer yet)

thanks in advance!

Not really what you are after but m&s and john lewis both do 12 days of christmas bauble sets

12 days m&s

Or if you have money to throw at individual decorations

8 maids

I love the Amy Swann one, thanks!

I do like that one but, price aside, I don’t love it - I think it’s the crown 🤔. Thanks though, I’d not thought to look at Fortnum & Mason

They are a bit pricy but I absolutely have to complete all 12, I just have to!! I half regret starting now tbh. I was so smug at the time and thought I was being outrageously clever!

How about planning to hang all the decorations on twigs/branches of some sort that you stand in an old milk churn and have the churn represent the "eight maids a milking"? You could even paint the dancing maids on to it (assuming you're handy with a paint brush)?

Gulbekian · 08/10/2024 17:51

Alternatively, you could perhaps get a milk churn from a dolls house supplies seller (see link below)

Or maybe look out for (or have a carpenter make you) a little three-legged stool to use an an ornament.

My artistic skills have not progressed beyond a stick figure sadly, but I like the idea of the twigs in an old milk churn

Omg that’s a really great idea! I would never have thought of this, or anything like it

Oooh can I see a picture/link to your swan please. I tried to buy decorations for the ballets my DD took part in. I have a Nutcracker but need a Swan and something for Romeo & Juliet

You can get Vermeer's painting The MilkMaid on a bauble that comes apart to hide a gift in.

Or if you into Miffy and Kitsch

The Vermeer is more my kind of ‘beautiful’ than Miffy, but it’s nice to know there’s literally a bauble out there to suit everyone 😂

Thank you that is gorgeous! Hoping to go to Liberty's this year, I haven't been for ages, used to go every year.

That is a thing of beauty that either my cat or my children would probably destroy, so I don’t deserve it!

That’s interesting Hobbes because I was looking at a Gisela Graham goose one but the online picture made the goose look really creepy and odd, and I wondered if it was just a bad picture and it might be cute in real life. Have you got a picture of yours you’d be happy to share?
