What is your wrapping theme for this year?

One of my favourite bits of Christmas is working out my wrapping theme -last year I did brown paper, red and white twine and holly leaves. One year I did Navy with white snowflakes and glittery ribbon with a white pom pom tucked in.

What's your theme or ideas for this year?

Wrapping paper from the 1990s I found in my Mum's attic when clearing it out to sell the house!

How amazing !!!!

AutumnGarland · 08/10/2024 17:20

Classic green and red this year, with green holly wrapping paper and red ribbon.

stargirl1701 · 08/10/2024 17:20

I switched to reusable fabric wrapping a few years ago.

LittleGreenDuck · 08/10/2024 17:22

My theme is "Christmas". More specifically, whatever is left in the 3 for 2 deal in Sainsburys by the time I get to it.

Though I think I'm finally past the stage of having to make sure Father Christmas uses different paper from family.

90's gangsta is my general wrapping style.

Hahaaa!

Birdahoy · 08/10/2024 17:25

I think I bought some in the sales after Christmas last year - red and vaguely vintage - so contemplating doing that with a contrasting ribbon (if I remember) or twine or raffia (if I don’t). I saw beautiful seed gift tags that you can plant and they grow wildflowers, but my pockets aren’t deep enough, alas….

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 08/10/2024 17:37

I buy a massive roll or two of Kraft or Clairefontaine Christmassy-printed brown wrapping paper and some ribbon/rafia/cord to match the print. The paper often lasts for several years. Kne roll was 50m long!

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 08/10/2024 16:58

My theme is “getting it all done before Christmas Eve otherwise it’s a massive ballache”

Whilst I get, and admire, the reusable fabric bag thing….do you hand over the gifts then ask for the bags back? I'd feel weird about this..

Yep! It's mostly just family though, and they know the drill now 😊

I made the bags partly to avoid that Christmas eve late wrapping session. I want to enjoy the evening, not be up until 3am, hidden away by myself, cursing and wrapping!

igiveuptrying · 08/10/2024 17:41

I have fabric bags for our gifts, use new dish towels as wrapping for wine etc when going to friends. Have some paper that I found when moving house so will use that to get rid of it.

newtlover · 08/10/2024 18:12

aldi sometimes sell fat quarters quite cheap and I've had some that are christmassy, or at least will look christmassy with the right ribbons and gift tags
they are big enough for lots of things but not all of course

Andnowshesatoddler · 08/10/2024 18:28

I've just brought some amazing bargain stockings off HOF website be great if I get them back if not they were 50p each they are cheaper than buying gift wrap and I get a break from the cello tape fight

Jebatronic · 08/10/2024 18:42

Reusable only, and same decorations as for the last 20years, the only new “decorations” are odd small souvenirs/children’s makes from the past years that end up on the tree as little keepsakes that get a Christmas outing for the sweet memories. Buying new stuff is getting depressing - the old stuff looks a bit rough but brings back nice thoughts.
It must be something to do with getting old.

LePetitMaman · 08/10/2024 18:54

I bought a load of uber cheap brown paper with various designs from Studio thanks to bargain thread months ago. That will be mixed in with the very final remains of the enormous rolls of Cox and Cox paper from yesteryear (more like 4yrs ago). Hopefully this will be enough to do all presents this Christmas, ready to buy loads of Cox and Cox paper and ribbons in the sales this coming January.

I love a theme. I just need to get rid of what I've got completely to then start from scratch.

One year, I will just do red glossy paper with gold ribbons for everything, and look terribly Christmas chic. But I get suckered into artisan bees wearing Santa hats all too easily Grin

I'll be continuing with my usual theme of throwing paper at gifts and swearing under my breath that I hate wrapping the sellotape has just nicked my nail varnish and next year I'll do it early (I won't)

Me too, @Andnowshesatoddler!

HappyDane · 08/10/2024 19:16

Not having a theme is its own theme, and just as cosy, fun, hyggelig, etc. 🎄🎄🎄

I chop and change my approach every year - subtly, I suppose - and get just as much joy out of it whichever way I do it. I do nothing at Christmas that I don't want to do; low key, low stress, low spend! That's all that matters to me, so I can spend my time being happy and hyggelig with my family and friends. The way I decorate and wrap is an extension of that so I absolutely don't go OTT...all it means is I like it to be harmonious and I don't like styles and colours to clash. My underlying theme is always the same but I'll swap out some elements some years to change the look a little bit. Sometimes more gold, sometimes more silver, sometimes I'll add in muted accent colours, sometimes I'll add in some bright red. Sometimes I'll use mostly glass, other years I'll use mostly fabric. I might do traditional red/gold/green, or add in more modern Scandi elements, or make it more sumptuous. All from the collection of things I already have and have added to over many years. I usually buy, or make, if I'm being really poncey, one or two new items each year. Sometimes DH and my DCs get me special ornaments from my wish list for my Christmas gift(s), which I love.

When I say theme what I mean is that everything vaguely goes together. I wouldn't want to be using lovely, calming, muted colours in my decor and then have paper or wrapping that clashes badly with it - it would be too discordant!

Do cox and Cox have good sales?

HappyDane · 08/10/2024 19:34

Yes @crochetmonkey74 they do. I've got some lovely things from them, and still have a fair bit to use. I don't look anymore, because otherwise I'll want to add to my stash. 😁😁

Thank you, I’ve just picked up 2 stockings for 50p each instead of 19.99

and also got 2 jumpers for £10 instead of £50 each, DD will be pleased!
I had to pay postage though.

MakeItRain26 · 08/10/2024 14:29

Ooh I love a wrapping theme - makes it really clear which presents are from you. Last year I did silver with shades of blue ribbon and the year before I did brown paper with gingham ribbon. Not sure for this year yet, following for ideas 🥰

I'm stealing this! 😅

I am in the process of redecorating my living room with greys and pale blues and of course my wrapping has to match! (Yes I am that poncetastic! 😎)

lazyarse123 · 08/10/2024 20:46

I would love to be able to titivate parcels but I don't think my brain and fingers work together well. I can make the wrapping look nice but just cannot do ribbons, twine even bows look like they've been chucked from a distance.

itsgettingweird · 08/10/2024 20:47

My theme is basically paper and bows that match my Xmas decorations.

That match my lounge!!!

I thought that was going OTT 😂

Even then it's paper and bows from B and M usually 🫣

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/10/2024 20:48

I've decided not to bother wrapping gifts this year - it's all a bit of a faff to be honest.

SO...I have decided I'm going to get the pasting table out of the garage and I will put all the presents on there with a raffle ticket sellotaped on to each one. I'm going to run it as TOMBOLA after Christmas dinner!

I wonder who'll get the Ladyshave? I do hope it's BIL Raymond, because he's such a miserable sod even at the best of times.

I've bought beautiful winter cottage wrap this year and red velvet ribbon . I've also bought campervan wrap for a friend who is desperate for a van .
I myself also have a nutcracker obsession

My kids always get nutcracker wrap in a different colour each.
