What is your wrapping theme for this year?

One of my favourite bits of Christmas is working out my wrapping theme -last year I did brown paper, red and white twine and holly leaves. One year I did Navy with white snowflakes and glittery ribbon with a white pom pom tucked in.

What's your theme or ideas for this year?

Ooo I didn't realise there was a Christmas board. I'm super excited and I'm going for a red and silver theme this year, with red wrapping paper. I quite like just a solid, matt red, I'll have to go on a hunt to find it xx

mitogoshigg · 08/10/2024 15:21

Make sure it's fully recyclable, otherwise cheap!

TianasBayou · 08/10/2024 15:22

Previous years leftovers.

And reusable fabric gift bags I made from some exceedingly ugly Christmas fabric which will give everyone a good laugh

Have you bought them from one place or accumulated them gradually? Our paper ones do eventually fall apart and I'd like to switch to fabric for longer life, I imagine they look nicer too.

I made them myself actually. Decided I'd have a go on an impulse a few days before Christmas one year, wouldn't recommend leaving it quite so late! It's just sewing in straight lines so was quite easy, even for a novice sewist like me.

If you fancy having a go, just Google videos for simple lined drawstring bags. I find the lining makes them more durable. You can make them reversible too, if you'd like.

I might need to make a few more but generally have enough. It's just for family gifts (I don't give many non-family gifts) and they know the drill now and either give me them back at the time, or next time I see them if I've posted their gifts.

The kids needed a little help with the draw strings when they were little, but are pro's now. And they don't seem to mind not ripping off paper.

When people say reusable fabric bags do you have to ask for them back once you’ve given the present? Or do you have to wait and hope that it’s “gifted” back to you with your present next year?
I'm considering fabric bags but don’t want to be awkward asking for it back as people might think it’s part of the gift?
We have paper gift bags that circulate the family over the years and a few that go back forth with an old friend 😂

Yes I do, I tend to just do it for family as I rarely gift to other people, and they just pass them back to me now without me asking or I collect them next time I see them. I'm sure if you told people what you were doing, they'd be happy to give them back to you!

It's only at Christmas that they're all in use, the rest of the year I have enough to cover birthdays etc without needing them back immediately.

That's so lovely you pass the same bags back and forth between you and your friend, I think it'd be lovely with a fabric one too - an extension of your tradition!

Love the sound of that fabric!

SirChenjins · 08/10/2024 15:56

Last year's leftover paper if I can find it and it's not too crumpled - otherwise whatever's nice in Sainsburys when I do the weekly shop.

RudolphsDashing · 08/10/2024 16:03

I'm doing brown paper with tartan ribbons this year. I bought reams of different coloured tartans... had to be done, since I've recently moved to Scotland.

I wish I'd had the good sense to save the amazon brown paper all year!

Wrapping paper from the 1990s I found in my Mum's attic when clearing it out to sell the house!

Was wrapping paper in the 90's any different to now? I was very much alive then and it all seems pretty much the same. Unless it had something 90's specific on it maybe.

Expirationbutdesperation · 08/10/2024 16:12

My theme is ‘not doing it last minute or getting hair in the sellotape’ !

TheCompactPussycat · 08/10/2024 16:16

We'll just reuse the same gift bags we've been using for the past 15+ years.

GoForARun · 08/10/2024 16:18

White Company-esque.

White paper with tasteful silver designs on it (from wherever - NOT TWC!), white ribbon and white heart-shaped tags.

very different. Mostly flat sheets in packs not on rolls- my mum used to buy it off the market where it was all hung up on racks like a towel rail and it was matt not shiny - very retro images like a candle with some holly at the bottom, some golden bells etc. I love the 80s and 90s wrapping paper

My theme??? Erm…tarts and vicars.

MissyPants · 08/10/2024 16:32

@crochetmonkey74 no, I mean I don't have time for fannying around deciding on themes, buying little fake holly's and thinking what would go with what, then putting it all together to look professional etc.
Nice to look at in Instagram la la land, don't get me wrong, but I have other things on my mind!
I completely get that some people love this and prioritise it to have the time to do it.
It's just so not me either!

MissyPants · 08/10/2024 16:34

Any way, pointless post from me as I'm not actually contributing to any ideas! 🤣

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 08/10/2024 16:45

I've still got loads of green Kraft paper left over from last Christmas so my theme will involve using up that.

This was last year's theme:

harriettenightingale · 08/10/2024 16:47

That's lovely!

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 08/10/2024 16:58

My theme is “getting it all done before Christmas Eve otherwise it’s a massive ballache”

Whilst I get, and admire, the reusable fabric bag thing….do you hand over the gifts then ask for the bags back? I'd feel weird about this..

hattie43 · 08/10/2024 17:05

I've bought beautiful winter cottage wrap this year and red velvet ribbon . I've also bought campervan wrap for a friend who is desperate for a van .
I myself also have a nutcracker obsession

Fakepower · 08/10/2024 17:10

I'm doing pink for girlfriends this year, Next have some lovely pink Xmas paper. Then maybe navy & white for parents. I've seen some lovely red paper for DC. I just need to know where i saw it !

TryingToBeNiceButFailing · 08/10/2024 17:13

I once wrapped everything in lovely brown paper with gorgeous tartan ribbons.

Apparently I cheap scaped that year and wrapped up their presents in used old brown paper. 😂

No culture

Fakepower · 08/10/2024 17:15

I love present wrapping, toppers, planning themes!

GettingStuffed · 08/10/2024 17:17

People have themes? I just use whatever was left from the previous year or that was bought in the sales after Christmas.
