What are you getting your mums for Christmas?

Looking for some inspiration of what to get for my mum this year. She's not into anything in particular apart from crime shows. She doesn't want any ornaments or candles as she has enough but I find her quite difficult to buy for. Apart from chocolate and bath sets, what would you recommend? What are you getting your mums/stepmums. Oh and doesn't drink so no alcohol. Thanks.

@psuedocream3 that all sounds lovely! that's everything I'd love for Xmas too 😆 can't go wrong with a cheeseboard.

As a mum I don't want food- I want stuff I don't buy for myself. This year I'm hoping my hints about one of those full length fluffy hoodie things have been received.. Proper wool hiking socks, a beautiful cardi or jumper, some lovely shower stuff. Books, hobby stuff I've been eyeing up.
A fancy meal out as normally any fancy meals are ones Ive cooked or feel obliged to wash up after. Theatre tickets....

averylongtimeago · 24/09/2024 12:06

Not all of those btw- I'm not greedy😁

My mum passed at the ripe old age of 83. Something about me. I tag my DS on fb for things I'm interested. But my latest and I'm very hopeful is a mini blaze table top fire pit that you can also use a candle in.

Not sure although she mentioned in passing the other day that she's not brought any clothes for 2 years & some are starting to look a bit worn so I anticipate she might want some new clothing items.
It's her birthday too soon so I've got her a spa day for that.

Fontainebleau007 · 24/09/2024 12:15

@averylongtimeago ooh thank you!! loveee the idea of the full length fluffy hoodie that's a definite add to the list she'd like one of them! I hope you get most (if not all!) 😜

Would she like to see a show or a talk or something? I took my mum to Marian Keyes in Q&A and we had a lovely evening. Also got her a secondhand book subscription, I think it's three a month for £15. You can specify what genre and her favourite authors and they pick books just for her. If she likes shopping vouchers are a good shout, like a nice local garden centre where you can also have lunch

Fontainebleau007 · 24/09/2024 12:16

@Isthiscorrect so sorry for your loss 💔 aw wow that's stunning!

Or an audible subscription so she can listen to crime books/podcasts while driving or doing chores ?

Gemstonebeach · 24/09/2024 12:19

I’ve got mine lush new pyjamas and will get her a book and some chocolates closer to Christmas

Fontainebleau007 · 24/09/2024 12:20

@VeruccaSalty thank you! Actually that book subscription sounds really nice. She started getting into reading again a few months ago mainly crime novels and psychological thrillers. I'll definitely be having a look at that! And yes, a voucher of some kind would definitely be a good idea aswell. So they're on the list too. Not too sure what type of show she might be interested in but that sounds like something I can maybe hint at lol x

An electric blanket throw blanket as she always moans how cold she is.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 24/09/2024 18:47

I got my parents a voucher last Christmas for a cafe they love going to.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 24/09/2024 18:54

I'm a mum. I'd like some sheepskin slipper boots, a Hello Fresh (or similar) subscription (I am beyond sick of trying to think what to cook for myself), a lovely framed photo of the kids together and/or the dog, some posh smells (mostly to make the house smell less of the aforementioned dog), some trips out with tickets bought and arrangements made by kids, a lovely rug...

julesover40 · 24/09/2024 18:58

No fresh ideas, but listing some of these for my mum.
Love tge second hand book subscription (for me) may have to nudge my children in that direction x

Powderblue1 · 24/09/2024 19:02

In our family we only buy for the children, not adults but for birthdays and Mother's Day I try to do something together like an afternoon tea or a meal together, theatre tickets etc. would she like something like that instead of a gift? X

Fontainebleau007 · 24/09/2024 19:22

Lots of great ideas thanks everyone 🥰@julesover40 I know doesn't that sound great! @Powderblue1 that sounds lovely I definitely am keeping that in mind too x

We don't. We go to the theatre and a meal or a weekend away. None of us need stuff.
