What are you getting your mums for Christmas?

Looking for some inspiration of what to get for my mum this year. She's not into anything in particular apart from crime shows. She doesn't want any ornaments or candles as she has enough but I find her quite difficult to buy for. Apart from chocolate and bath sets, what would you recommend? What are you getting your mums/stepmums. Oh and doesn't drink so no alcohol. Thanks.

We're not miserable, feel like I need to add this in. All kids get presents. We have a secret Santa for everyone that is actually on the table on Christmas Day with a £50 ceiling. We also play the present dice game on Xmas Eve which is without a doubt the kids' favourite part of Christmas.

I was looking today at a tea and biscuit gift set from m and s but my mum barely speaks to me and usually regifts anything I give her so i probably will end up not bothering 😞

I always do her a little hamper of her favourtiate snacks then I book a short break for me and her for around March time….4 nights away somewhere

MouseofCommons · 24/09/2024 20:27

Nothing. I'm forbidden to buy her anything. She's time and cash rich and trying to declutter as she's almost 80. She asks us to donate to the food bank instead.

@Takeoutthegluten aw I'm so sorry to hear that. That's so difficult. If she doesn't appreciate it then I probably wouldn't either x

My mums the same. Almost 80 and doesn't want more stuff. What she really loves for presents now is when I take her somewhere and we spend time together. So things like festive afternoon tea, trip to the theatre, meal in her favourite restaurant.

Speaking from a mum’s viewpoint (I’m mid-60s…) - my son gave me a kindle recently, which I didn’t think I’d like or use as I love actual books, but I’m a convert! I’ve been downloading books and reading absolutely everywhere (the kindle fits into my bag or a pocket much easier than a book does) - I’m currently working my way through Lisa Jewell and Shari Lapena (both crime psychological thriller genre) on an alternating rota. That kindle gift has opened up a whole new world for me 😁

Fontainebleau007 · 24/09/2024 21:07

@abbey44 I'll be looking into that thank you .. such a great idea I could actually see her with one! X

I’ve started buying a few bits to make a mini paper hamper, she likes to have nice bath stuff so I’ve got some bits to do that and some socks to go in. Then I’ll wait till she comes out with her list usually slippers/dressing gown/jumper/gloves she usually rotates through was slippers last year not sure which one I’m on this time yet! Then I just go to local craft fairs and see if there are any nice little bits, decorations/earrings etc. once it’s been my birthday then we can talk Christmas not before haha

I'm a Mum of adult children. I much prefer things that can be used up. Obviously it depends what your Mum likes but I have enjoyed:
Beauty treatment vouchers because I love them but tend not to buy for myself.
Invitation to a meal/afternoon tea with my time poor offspring
Jumper or top, can't have too many
Cookery book (they rifle through my shelves to find one I haven't got.)
Shower gel and matching body lotion a bit more special than my usual. TK Maxx is good for that.
Eye makeup palette
Pyjamas to replace my apparently 'gross' ones
Earring and necklace sets (costume jewellery, not expensive jewellers type)
A hamper of things they know I love (toiletries, face masks, decent coffee, jams, artisan crackers etc)
I know your Mum doesn't drink but for others looking for inspiration, a gin that is different to my usual
Boots do some lovely boxes with a selection of things to try, some full sizes, some small sizes that are great for travelling
A craft light for my card making and jigsaws
