Wasn't being rude. Just surprised and felt disorganised for Xmas suddenly! Now where is your Xmas cheer?

Edited

🤣 you made me laugh. Admittedly I was in a grump this morning.

BonaidMhoir · 02/09/2024 17:55

@Bogginsthe3rd I used to think that too but now with growing kids to pay for and everything getting more expensive these threads are an absolute godsend that really help me to stretch the budget and give everyone a lovely Christmas

Just as a heads up your message was taken as being rude just because of the words you used such as mental.
You can never tell the tone meant in a message.

Im really struggling for my eldest this year. He's an adult with autism and likes various things but because he's liked them for over a decade he already has most gift buying options.

I used to go with a few foodie gifts too but he's piling weight on lately 😭😔 (but I need to tread carefully there or he could go to the other extreme) so I'll buy a couple of food gifts but not lots. He's tonnes of toys, figures, mugs, t-shirts, caps, Funkos, etc. He doesn't drink alcohol, doesn't go to concerts, isn't into designer brands or aftershave etc.

The other problem is he never throws anything away so I'm also aware he has an ever increasing collection of "stuff". Toys, books, and items related to his interests (mario, Lego, smg4, Mickey Mouse, Ghostbusters, Marvel, Splatoon, etc)

I usually spend the bulk of his budget on a big fancy Lego set, but he's still at that you get stage where he likes presents to open, and has a much you get sibling who will have lots of toys to open.

It's so tricky!! Anyone else have a similar situation or have any ideas?

Edited

@Twitchyeyebrow how about a day out / tickets visit to a place related to some of his interests? You could add to that with a special lunch out nearby and a ‘Souvenir’ voucher from the shop at the attraction too? Not sure if that would work but stops you having lots and lots of stuff? Or maybe a magazine subscription so he gets a new one each month?

V good deals on Scrabble, Monopoly, Cluedo and Twister on Amazon - I always like to get a game to put away for Christmas (or the period between Christmas and New Year)

Thank you! I was waiting for junior cluedo to come down!

MrsBird03 · 02/09/2024 20:04

My contribution (not sure if any good as my lo is too young for lego) but house of Fraser have this lego car thing for 1p. Might be a price error but worth a try x

If anyone spots a fireman sam scooter in return (not for 1p but cheap as) I'd be very grateful!

The works have some plushies in their 3 for £15 deal, looks like a good size Works link here I have linked the kitten but there are loads on there sharks, dinosaurs etc 😊

MadeForThis · 02/09/2024 20:36

Could anyone recommend the best deal for Mario Kart for the Switch? Do people buy the wheel too?

Twitchyeyebrow · 02/09/2024 20:47

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

He won't wear an oodie but I have one and I love the idea of the cushion cover for when it's not in use, what a good idea!

He has tonnes of tshirts, pjs, etc and has a dressing gown. He tends to wear the same things until they're falling apart so he has lots to wear through to be honest!

Really appreciate everyone's ideas. I think it's tricky in that he's still got that young excitement about the presents on Xmas day and like I say has a younger sibling and I like to make sure neither feels anything is unequal.

Ewock · 02/09/2024 21:05

For general board games I start looking round charity shops about now. People always seem to be having a clear out around this time. I've got several bargains in the past.

My Autistic DD is younger, but I'm in a similar pickle. She has aaaall the Funko pops, Squishmallows, etc, and like your son, throws nothing away (and keeps all the packaging)

This year, so far, I'm thinking about an Apple Watch (so she can track her steps and heart rate; she has other health conditions) and also a cassette player and bespoke Japanese table as she is obsessed with all things Japanese (anime, etc) I'm also going to buy duplicates of her favourite clothes (she will only wear black) but that doesn't seem like an actual Christmas present.

Other than that, I'm stumped as she won't go on holiday, as she prefers home. I can always get her vouchers for Minecraft etc, but they seem boring. Last year I bought her tickets to an anime expo, but she couldn't cope with it.

I'm going to start a cash ISA for her, but my goodness, this year is going to be thin on the ground for actual presents.

Edited to add that a weighted blanket didn't go down well, and neither did an Oodie.

fluffytail · 02/09/2024 21:20

Anyone looking for gifts from children - I bought a kit to make a keyring using shrink plastic. I got my 5yo to draw a picture of herself and daddy and write his name. Two minutes in the oven and it's made a lovely little keyring. I'm going to get a few more to make gifts for grandparents.

Baker Ross have 6 sheets 50% off down to £3.95 free delivery over £25 FREEDEL or you can get 20 sheets for about £12 from Amazon.

For those questioning early buying, I’ve followed these threads throughout the year for years and it’s such a relief if you can do your shopping early, I hate the crowds and panic buying in December. One year I’d finished in July as I’d bought everyone Oodies (multipack which works out cheaper) and it was amazing not having to rush around nearer the day. I’ve also discovered fab products/presents that I hadn’t known existed.
One thing I’ve learnt is that now is the time to buy if you can. There always seems to be sales about September time when you can pick up bargains and in a month prices will rise, maybe with the budget or maybe because it’s the run up to Christmas.

@TherebytheGraceofGodgoI absolutely agree with this. I get my best buys around now, and I've been around for around 7 years or so (name changed a few times). I personally find that things arent so jaw droppingly bargainous after Oct half term. I have 3 little ones, 6,4 and 1. Any savings I'm so grateful for as they all have their birthdays between now and Christmas too..😬 that said I follow this thread all year round. I have a big wider family 😁 thanks so much for everyone's contributions.

I admire your restraint! When I start too early either I end up massively overbuying OR become complacent only to realise when wrapping that I've left out someone/something so still do the mad panic 😂

Has anyone seen and offers for a "dryrobe" type thing (not the branded one) ideally less than £50 if such a thing exists...

Looking for one for a friend so adult sized rather than kids

Can I ask if anyone has any ideas for 20~22yo men?

That’s my dcs and, as it is more and more the case since they are at Uni, I’m struggling to find ideas (bar a few very expensive items that might make it to the list). Not socks - apparently that’s for old people 😂😂

I have two sons in this age range.

last year I got eau de toilette from Boots in Black Friday deal, also those little atomisers from Amazon for when they are travelling.

one asked for a drinking game and I got this: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1310242544/away-days-the-football-drinking-game which if they are into footy is a good one.

mine also like Board games and £ for
clothes goes down well.

Just little things but there’s a Japanese inspired card game called sushi go which is really fun and can be played in as little as 15 minutes. I’ve checked and it’s £12 at Argos atm which from memory of when I brought it a few years ago, is a good price.

I also brought some socks wrapped up to look like sushi for a friend going to Japan for her honeymoon a few years ago. Not sure if your daughter’s socks need to be black too but if not, I’ve found similar here for £12.99, but it looks like they’re available in lots of different places. https://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/studio/sushi-socks-set-786861?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAA-D7BVz4DCDHAdEHeXfjbuhVFCLHK&clickref=1011lzDqgQds&app_clickref=1011lzDqgQds&utm_source=partnerize&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=genieshopping#colcode=78686169
Hope it helps x

If you have a mountain warehouse outlet nearby its worth checking there. I got an animal one before the summer for about £55.
