Just because I have literally just recommended one of the top 10 🤣.

I’d give most of these and happily receive most of them as well! The windscreen wipers was a bit of an odd one?

A tile scourer thing on a stick from my MiL. When I said -- you should've given this to DH. He's the one who cleans the bathroom... Her reply 'I could hardly give him cleaning items could I?'

Mikki77 · 14/08/2024 13:41

The inlaws gave me a set of towels and bath salts with a gift tag addressed to them " We got these gifts and didn't like them so thought you could have them." Straight to the charity shop they went!

Hoppinggreen · 14/08/2024 13:50

DH bought me a Wonderbra one year, I am a 36DD
I could have eaten my Christmas dinner off my boobs

psuedocream3 · 14/08/2024 13:57

Childrens toys and chocolate coins are a must surely?

But I wouldn't really want most of that list besides, the hamper, gym membership, perfume and lingerie. And then the last two would have to my preference from my husband.

Perfume isn't a great gift when people randomly guess what you like, unless it's for a teen trying them out.

An iron surely is a gift for the home?

caringcarer · 14/08/2024 14:11

Candles. I hate them.

Overtheatlantic · 14/08/2024 18:12

Slippers two sizes too small. When my sil had been given a tv. 😔

PearlSlaghoople · 15/08/2024 22:01

A giant gin glass with my name in pink sparkles…

I don’t really drink, and when I do, it’s either cider or a white wine, def. not gin.

Gin killed my Mother when I was a small child. The gift-giver knew this.

When I was 21 my aunt gave me a revolting brown and tan houndstooth umbrella, the really cheap kind you'd buy on a market stall, and a laundry bag.

I would definitely be confused if someone gave me a map of the US!

Is a map of the country a standard feature in American homes, as the list specifies a “new” map? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a map of the UK in homes here.

reallyworriedjobhunter · 15/08/2024 22:19

I've mentioned this before but for the first Christmas after I got married, my MIL gave me a pair of washing up gloves and some American tan sheer tights. She said they went together as a sexy outfit.

I was so so embarressed. She had also, without telling us, invited a couple she was friends with. They brought us gifts and we had nothing to give them back. Then she corralled them into doing most of the cooking.

After lunch she had a long loud phone call with DH's ex wife.

We don't spend Christmas with her any more.

Not for me but my husband received 3 body warmers . It wasn't the body warmers per se it was more who bought them, his mum, his aunt and his nan.
The thing was they all went shopping together. I mean who thinks oh yes that's such a good idea we'll buy him one as well ( or 2 in his case) . He didn't like them anyway " but you get cold arms with them" was his reply.
Luckily they weren't with us when he opened them because we were laughing when he opened the 2nd one and hysterical when he opened the 3rd. Still they were wasted as my dad got one for the garden, my aunt got one for dog walking and the man next door got one for working in his allotment.

Namechangeforthis88 · 17/08/2024 21:46

DSIL and DBIL asked for a charity gift one year. I got them one each. They re-gifted one straight back to me within days. Literally the slip that says e.g. this helps provide a family with sanitation or whatever. Definitely the same thing. They themselves suggested charity gifts.

DH does his own side of the family since then.

This is far worse than anything on that list!

I somehow always end up with bottles of wine in work secret Santa's even though I don't drink lol

I just end up giving them to my parents.

Thunderboltandlightningveryveryfrightening · 18/08/2024 20:01

Hadn't known mil long. About a year... Got a bracelet that turned my wrist green. Looked on ebay and it cost £3.75.. My own dc got thoughtful gifts.. Her actual dgc got none. Very odd. I fumed as I had scoured the shops with a tiny dc finding a wrap thing she had told dh she wanted... Been nc for 9 years. Bliss.

To be fair I have a picture up on my wall with birds and their Welsh names on. I am not Welsh either, but it's rather sweet.

Lifelover16 · 18/08/2024 20:30

A big box beautifully wrapped by MIL - containing a Pyrex casserole dish

LuckysDadsHat · 18/08/2024 20:35

It is an annual event that BIL and SIL give us "bag of crap" presents. They are very much quantity over quality and we end up with a massive gift bag every year that is opened, fake thank yous given and then 27th December it is all donated to the charity shop.

A fake metal skull necklace was one highlight (god this is outing!). I was 42 at the time and without sounding like a snob my jewellery is all high end and not a beach gift shop fake metal necklace.

meltedchocolateandstrawberries · 18/08/2024 20:37

I got a bottle of Belvoir last year. My sibling & partner did a lucky dip for us all...in return I'd got them well thought out gifts that I'd stressed about for weeks too. Not happening this year!🙃

Sharontheodopolodous · 18/08/2024 21:25

Anything my narcissistic mother bought me
Snowball shaped candles
A katie price fake, knocked off perfume
Blanket with sleeves, complete with food stains
Eye gel that was so old,the product had evaporated
Body shop products that where in the old style packaging
Cross stitch patterns-the free ones you get with magazines
A broken wicker basket to store my cross stitches in-i picked it up and it fell apart

(My brothers got thoughtful and nice presents-im not ungrateful at all,but i got the tat that was the afterthought)

Dp once bought me a tiny box that rattled when I shook it
I was so chuffed-hed bought me earrings or a nice necklace
I saved it til last
Fucking toothpicks!

Elsewhere123 · 19/08/2024 04:13

Meat cleaver- I'm a vegetarian, but I bought him a toilet seat.

OneRealRosePlayer · 19/08/2024 04:39

Earrings when i don't have my ears pierced.

My aunt is also convinced that I love meerkats because I liked the comparison meerkat tv advert. I always get weird looking ones that looked like they were touching somewhere private. Also my favourite animal is a tiger, shown by the little tiger toy i carried around with me

mathanxiety · 19/08/2024 05:13

A dress that was the shape and colour and just short of the texture of a burlap sack. Thanks MIL.
