Meeces get a goldfish - no walks or extortionate vet bills and they don't take themselves off for adventures

Take yourself over to Fishnet and you'll have your mind boggled at how complex goldfish are !
From the size if tank , to the water treatment , what stones, plants , In Tank Enrichment .
Illnesses

Back in the days when you bought a round bowl and threw in some gritty fishfood are long gone .
And that's standard goldfish , not even going onto tropicals

We had three for the DC , then two then one
The remaining one was about 6 years old or something . It took hours to clean and refresh the tank . (And it was never grateful Hmm )

NoWordForFluffy · 04/06/2024 22:20

You need to ask@whydoesitalwayshappentome about how long goldfish live! 😬 🐟 🤣

Ah yes my husband had goldfish and they both lived to well into their twenties. They had a ginormous tank and it took him ages to clean them out.

Me and Fluffy had a goldfish which she was carrying home in a bag, there was a thunderstorm (which as a kid she wasn't keen on) and the poor thing got more or less spun round as she ran home. I think he only lasted a couple of years though. Too much adventure for the poor thing 😂

Magnoliasunrise · 05/06/2024 06:56

Yikes!! Ok so no goldfish - maybe just stick to feeding the birds 😂

NoWordForFluffy · 05/06/2024 07:34

Ah yes. Poor Blip! He didn't have a good start.

I do think your DH's goldfish were an anomaly though! 🤣

It's supposedly meant to be ok weather today, but we shall see!

OP posts:
whydoesitalwayshappentome · 05/06/2024 07:48

They were an anomaly Fluffy, although he is not having anymore just in case they last forever as well.

Bert could last that long or more. So we shall see how he goes.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/06/2024 07:55

Bert is more than enough. Wonder if he'll get increasingly grumpy as he gets older?!

OP posts:
whydoesitalwayshappentome · 05/06/2024 07:57

Blimey if he gets more angry he will need a seclusion zone. He is guarding his cage at the moment and goes for anybody within striking distance, which is fun.

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 05/06/2024 09:30

Morning. I 100% cannot be arsed with anything today. Blaming hormones.

Magnolia I don't like fish - watching them in a tank makes me feel a bit queasy, plus they seem a lot of faff for low reward to me 🤣

why\Fluffy Who is Bert Confused

Really I'd love another dog but now just isn't the right time for various reasons so we'll be pet-less for a year or so I think.
I was tempted by another hamster but that's a no go for now too.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/06/2024 09:48

I think he's a cockatoo, Meeces. Not entirely sure, mind. Loud. Bigger than budgie. 🤣

OP posts:
whydoesitalwayshappentome · 05/06/2024 10:05

Bert is a Cockatiel Meeces. Bloody noisy and they are extremely dusty. I wouldn't recommend to be honest. He is quite funny though.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/06/2024 10:09

One of our guinea-pigs ( my DD's hog) was the most amazing little chap . She called him "Bert" All our guinea-pigs were from Rescues and even if we knew their names we changed them. We didn't know his original name so Bert suited him.

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 05/06/2024 10:50

I like an animal with attitude so quite like the sound of Bert 🤣

MIL has horses and my favourite one is the little pony who is 25 but acts like a toddler. He breaks into the hay barn to steal food on a semi-regular basis but his 2 best tricks (which drive MIL mad) are to remove the rugs and bridles off the other horses or undoing gates then just standing there watching while the others get into/out of things they aren't meant to 😂

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 05/06/2024 10:52

My daughter has four guinea pigs 70. They are brilliant pets and have lots of personality for cuddly potatoes 😍

The photo above is Tommy and Tobi. Tommy is placid but Tobi is a lot of personality in one piggy.

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 05/06/2024 11:45

They're very cute why

I feel this pic may be apt right now...

That pony sounds hilarious! 🐴 🤣

They all sound like Pets with Personalities.

I had a guinea pig called Mr Worthington but he didn't do anything funny and wasn't even that cuddly to be honest. A friend had a macaw that didn't live in a cage just used to fly free around his flat - I never visited but I believe it was messy....

Love the guinea pigs why they look like they're contemplating the next move in a game of chess (but anyone who has ever kept them knows that they really aren't that smart )

DD called them not the sharpest knives in the drawer but really Thick As Mince came closer .
But they are entertaining , chatty , greedy little rodents who though they could bite you , they very rarely do .

Bert (one of my DDs boars ) used to sit being cuddled and stroked then fling himself backwards (luckily she was always sitting down and caught the daft pilchard ) You can "trance" rabbits ,though it isn't recommended , by putting them on their back . Bert was just being weird !

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 06/06/2024 19:10

The white piggy 70 has a particularly gormless look and my daughter says he looks like he is having an existential crisis! They are definitely not clever bless them.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 06/06/2024 19:16

Photo of said guinea pig. Either thinking a lot or nothing at all.
