My DS5 loves his mini microscope LED keyring which went in hit stocking. Expensive stocking filler but he’s been walking around all day looking at everything.

tell me your present hits you got for others or received yourself!

OP posts:

A fairy outfit and sylvanian house were DD5's favourites. DS6 loves his lego kits especially the Delorian and the Harry Potter icons ones. And his nerf gun.

From their stocking both of them went crazy for lockable boxes to store things they collect and for fans from smiggle that spray water on your face.

ICantGetNoSheep · 27/12/2023 13:07

Electric scooters for my two aged 8&9 have been huge hits.

Also, a Harry Potter-esque wax sealing kit for the 9 year old has been a huge success. Was just a stocking filler, but she adores it.

DS received an arcade style basketball game (2 player digital score keeper); it’s huge, but it’s been a lot of fun.

I received tickets for a local ghost walk that I’m thrilled about.

TadpolesInPool · 27/12/2023 13:14

9 year old DS adores his slime and thera putty. Hopefully he'll now stop nicking all the blu tac! Also thrilled with the ps4 game he d asked for.

12 year old much harder to buy for. He was chuffed with his small messenger bag (as he's started going out with friends) and fitness mat for press ups and sit ups (we have hard floors). The biggest hit was a homemade voucher for more kindle books. He adores reading.

janfebmarchapril · 27/12/2023 13:56

Melissa and doug ice cream set has a been a huge hit for my 2 year old!

psuedocream3 · 27/12/2023 14:42

DD14's favourite gifts were steam gift card, costa coffee gift card, air up bottle and bath and bodyworks spray.

DD10's favourites are Nike jordans, pokemon cards, air up bottle and gaming headset.

DD5's favourites was a unicorn backpack and a unicorn squishmallow, and the contents of a a smyths £4 blind bag which is mostly the generic old school party tat items.

DS2's favourites seems mostly to be the stocking fillers - a £4 smyths blind bag of party bag type toys, a dinosaur head hand puppet, zuru strike dinosuars that also launch rockets and a remote controlled car.

Gutted but no they don’t!

I was a bit sceptical because they’re pricy for what they are (£60 full price, thankfully I got one on Black Friday!) but actually it’s so fuzzy and nice I quite fancy one too!

Damn! Hopefully they make them adult size soon 😂

imnotthatkindofmum · 27/12/2023 16:19

DD16 has been stuck under her weighted blanket for 2 days 🤣 wish I'd got her one years ago it's made her so happy!

DD15 almost cried when she opened the picture that her big sister had painted her. Long story but it's been a tricky year or so and she's felt very distant from her sister for various reasons so this personal gift (she'd shown some art she liked to her previously) really hit her in the feels!

DD10 I thought all the Harry Potter stuff would be best but she's just happy with some cheapy fake AirPods I got from Temu in her stocking!

DH got a signed picture from his favourite band. He is as excited as a teenager!

None of my presents were exciting. They were all nice but nothing amazing. It's sad being 46 😢

HalfWomanHalfChocolate · 27/12/2023 09:13

Ooh, @flowerchild2000 could you link to this please? I have a DD that might like this and there’s still birthdays on the horizon!

Hits here were a book of mazes for my DD6 - she’s been very quiet solving them ever since 😉. I also bought a pair of cheap micro fibre mitts from Amazon for each of my DSises, which you can wear to dust plants with. They have a lot of plants so this was very well received!

It's called a Bitzee! They also make cases for them on Amazon.

jocktamsonsbairn · 27/12/2023 18:42

Student DD (apart from Taylor Swift ticket which was bought in July) absolutely loved a hamper of basic essentials - loo roll, washing capsules, washing up liquid, pasta, rice, sauces, tomato purée, case of Diet Coke etc etc! How times have changed!

DS loved Lego and an arsenal top - at 22 things haven't changed there at all over the years! 😂

Crackery · 29/12/2023 00:39

Dd16 favourite was an electric hot water bottle

Dd9s was a candy floss maker that was a last minute addition

Got DD11 a scented bracelet making set… she loved it. it was an impulse buy as it was on sale and made up her budget.

ds15 loved the conspiracy theory book, he’s told his best friend who now wants him to bring it to school so he can read it.

Can you link me your the scented bracelet kit pls? Interested for dd bday...

paulaparticles · 29/12/2023 01:30

teen dd's loved their heated throws and noise cancelling headphones.

11 year old loved his alan becker school bag and his tool box. It came in so handy as he was able to help open his and his brothers toys with the scissors from it and was able to use the screwdrivers to open the battery compartment in their toys and he felt so grown up and I have to admit it really helped me and saved me the hassle of doing it. He's been carrying it about everywhere with him 😁
Toddler loves his homebargains shopping trolley and has been putting everything in it and pushing it around.

housethatbuiltme · 29/12/2023 11:53

Imaginext - got a huge bundle secondhand for £10 and all I hear all day is 'WOW... mam I just discovered a new button that makes x, y, z happen'.

Cuwins · 31/12/2023 08:01

Another big hit for DD nearly 2 has been a table top easel- used every day so far. And in her stocking she had paint sticks which she adores and has used constantly- I think they are brilliant as no mess at all so far

MrsDilligaf · 31/12/2023 19:44

The best thing DD got was a pikachu pokemon card. Cost me less than £3 including postage but it was the present that stunned her into silence.

Overall there's nothing that we got her that was a miss.

DH loved his mandalorian lego and the dog loved his new ball.

Feel like I smashed it this year 😁

lorisparkle · 31/12/2023 22:45

On my list I had a soft snuggly Christmas blanket. I love it but have only used it once as ds3 (13) has adopted it!

Kwam31 · 31/12/2023 22:56

Teenage DD loves her new trainers, cast iron skillet (loves to cook) surprise weekend away.

Magnetism game...

Honestly everyone has loved it at all ages, it's basically 20 magnetic balls... Last minute addition to even out the piles.

Do you have a link to this please? Might solve a birthday present problem for me.

What is the title of the book please? Am using this thread for birthday present suggestions for various folk. Thank you

SDJ is so big right now I love their Bom dia cream. I actually got dd the bom dia travel set. It was one of her favourites.

The samples i got were

MFK Baccarat rouge 540 edp and extrait
MFK Grand Soir
YSL babycat
Montale Arabians Tonka
Montale vanille absolut
Killian Angels share/Apple brandy and rolling in love
PDM Delina and one delina flanker but I can’t remember which

I also got her the penhalgions, commodity and the harmonist discovery set. Discovery sets are usually the cheapest ways to get testers. I did also get her some perfume oils from Simon’s nest and they smelled amazing and were really cheap.

I may have also got myself some samples as well 😂. I got Diorama Vanille and PDM Althair. Which was a mistake because now I want both. Just before chrismas I got Maison margella by the fireplace which similar to Althair. Not the same but close enough I am not so tempted to spend on Althair.

The Diorama Vanille sounds so good! I have PDM Delina Exclusif (too floral for me) and the Montale Vanille Absolut. I stopped "collecting" perfumes so I didn't know about YSL Babycat but it sounds really good! Would love to try the MFKs some day and the Killian Apple Brandy. Love many of the Penhaligons and bought some Commodity scents the first time they were out (Velvet, Gold, Gin, Wool, etc)

The sample kits are the way to go to try new perfumes. I want the new Penhaligons set with the "Liquid Love", etc. I hadn't heard of Harmonist but their Hypnotic Fire, Sun Force and and Moon Glory have some great notes

By The Fireplace is one of my favorites, along with their Jazz Club. I have the E&J Bourbon EdP and mix that with By The Fireplace. It is so good! I think we have very similar tastes in perfume likes. The PDM Althair is new so I had to look it up. It does sound SO good and right up my alley. Glad it smells like BtF though, as I don't ever need another bottle and need to get rid of a lot I have.

I have the AG Cloud. I am hoping DGD decides to try it and like it. Glossier You I haven't tried.

It sounds like your DD had a very good Christmas! You both got some wonderful scents!

E&J Bourbon sounds right up my street! I might have to indulge.

As it stands I did end up buying Althair 😂 I have a 10ml of MM Jazz club and that’s on my list too.

I am really on the fence about Diorama vanille. The Byredo Vanilla Absolut is really nice too. Both pricy.

i am not a huge delina fan, too floral for me too.

2 of the harmonist ones were great. One was awful and one was ok. I think it was hypnotic fire that wasn’t great. Which was a surprise.

I haven’t tried Penhaligon’s liquid love! Sounds really interesting though. I really want their bewitching Yasmine!

If I won’t the lottery perfume would be my main indulgence!

Killian apple brandy was nice. Really nice. But I have seen Angle Share being described loads of times and Apple Brandy smelled like I expect Angel Share to smell. Then Angel Share smelled like apple sauce. I couldn’t pick up apple pie or cinnamon or boozy.

The Simon’s nest perfume oils have been a winner though. Load of people commented when I had their campfire apples oil on. I sprayed Victoria secret bare vanilla then put that on and load of people could smell it.

Lifeasiknowitisout · 06/01/2024 14:00

@Nanaof1 forgot to ask what you thought of Montale vanilla absolute? I haven’t managed to get my nose on that one yet. 😂

Also commodity Milk and gold are amazing

Samples Are definitely the way to go.

CONGRATS on the PDM Althair! The notes sound so good. Love cinnamon, praline, cardamon, vanilla in scents. I also love amber and tobacco (why I love Jazz Club).

As for Vanille Absolut, I like it but not as much as other perfumes. My favorite vanilla perfumes are Goutal's Vanille Charnelle, Perry Ellis' Black Vanilla Absolute, Molinard's Vanille and TF Noir Pour Femme. They aren't straight vanilla but a mix of notes I like with prominent vanilla.

Sometimes, I get surprised and ones I am so sure I'll love are "meh" and some I buy because it's an impulse are "wow!". A couple of my best "wows!" were Shiseido Zen Gold Elixir and Guerlain Mon Exclusif. Total blind buys that worked out. One was one of the first bottles I bought and the other one of the last.

As for Angel's Share, I bought it when it first came out and then returned it. I will buy a travel-sized bottle, but the full-sized bottle was just "too much". It sounds like I might like the Apple Brandy better.

We need to start our own thread or take this to PM. It's fun to have someone to talk perfumes with. 😊

They have them at Aldi as the moment. They are really good.
