What time are you doing the stockings?

I usually do them once all dc are asleep but tonight I'm really tired. Dd is still awake and usually up later than me.

Not sure if I should risk waiting til the early morning or just force myself to stay awake.

Of DD is usually up later than you, the surely she's old enough to know?

JinglePringle · 24/12/2023 22:57

I keep stockings downstairs in the lounge so I can fill them just before I can go to bed.

Both children are in bed and hopefully asleep. But even if they aren't asleep I can fill stockings and go to bed when I'm ready.

purpleme12 · 24/12/2023 22:58

Before I go to sleep. Got to have a bath first so won't be for a while

APurpleSquirrel · 24/12/2023 23:01

We've just done them - they're in the lounge though so much easier.
I'll be heading off to bed soon. DC have been in bed a while but keep hearing DD (9) nip to the loo, so we're on high alert in case she tries to come downstairs.

Goldwakeme · 24/12/2023 23:01

I'm fed up that DC aren't asleep yet, I am going to do it now or I'll be so tired tomorrow.

cardibach · 24/12/2023 23:02

Once DD was old enough to be up as late as me I just kept her stocking in my bedroom.

StragglyTinsel · 24/12/2023 23:06

I did mine at 8.30 just after my 3 year old went to bed. The stocking stay downstairs, so there’s no trying to sneak into anyone’s bedroom for me. I put all the presents under the tree too.

14 year old DS decided to just avoid the living room when I said I was putting everything out. He originally wanted to help be Santa (with all the wrapped presents) but decided that he actually didn’t even want to see the shape of the presents so scarpered. He did love putting out (all edible by wildlife) reindeer mix with his wee brother, and doing the snacks and drinks for Santa and the reindeer with him (then drinking the milk they decided Santa wanted). But it seems he still feels seeing everything under the tree for the first time on Christmas morning is magical.

I've never done stockings. My eldest is 13. Strange how I've never thought about it.

TheWeatherOutsideIs · 24/12/2023 23:08

Ours are in the lounge. I always do them before I go to bed.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 24/12/2023 23:09

Ds2 filled his own stocking tonight Xmas Blush
Everything was wrapped although he guessed the Pringles and the Smarties and hasn't opened anything. He's a teenager btw..

Emmacb82 · 24/12/2023 23:11

Just done ours, although they were already stuffed days ago. We use a pair of tights so just swap them over with the ones the kids leave out. We were interrupted halfway through the process by the eldest falling out of bed! But all done and now can relax until the madness tomorrow.

BoPeepsSheep · 24/12/2023 23:12

Gosh I remember this when my two were little.

DD1 always went for a wee about 12.30am, so stockings had to be done after that.

them they’d have us awake at 5am. We’d spend the whole day feeling exhausted and slightly ill 🙈

Scrantonicity2 · 24/12/2023 23:14

Eldest is 9 and finds it hard to get to sleep... relatives have all gone to bed but need to make sure eldest is asleep! I'll try in 15 mins...

CringleXmas · 24/12/2023 23:15

@BoPeepsSheep exhausted and slightly ill, I can relate to that!
I'm going to listen by the door now see if I can hear any movement

Just crept in to do ours and eldest DC (8) woke up!! First time ever! Scooted him off to the toilet now waiting for him to drop back off, thankfully stocking wasn't filled yet as he checked it on his way back from the toilet 😰

elliejjtiny · 24/12/2023 23:19

Younger 3 went to bed at 10. Watching die hard with dh and the teenagers. Will do the stockings just after midnight. Will probably only get 5 hours sleep but it's been like that all week anyway.

BoPeepsSheep · 24/12/2023 23:21

Honestly used to fell unwell all day every year, like crushing tiredness combined with having to cook and eat a big dinner, construct toys, clear up constant mess.

loved Christmas before I had children but can’t say I’m a huge fan of Xmas now.

Today has been a merry go round of obligations!

inappropriateraspberry · 24/12/2023 23:22

Youngest fell asleep pretty quick and he sleeps through everything! It was easy to go in, get stocking, fill and return to room.
DD8, on the other hand... still awake, have gone in a couple of times to check on her! She always struggles to get to sleep and I think she is too excited tonight.

In an ideal world, yes. My daughter is 6 and has only just dropped off. She so so excited and couldn't sleep. Going to wait a bit a longer but desperate to go to bed!

kirinm · 24/12/2023 23:24

Waiting for DD (5) to go back to sleep after having woken up and got into our bed. I'm shattered and am cooking for 9 tomorrow so could really do with going to sleep now!

Xmasbaby11 · 24/12/2023 23:27

My dc 9 and 11 are still chatting and giggling in bed - sharing a room as we have guests. I’m so tired, I’ve come to bed and left the presents with Dh to do the stockings. We do keep them downstairs by the fireplace which makes it easier.

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 24/12/2023 23:30

Mine has just gone to sleep, I had to get in with her, she's 10 so last year of the full on Xmas traditions, though I'm sure she knows anyway.

About to get up and sort it

He's just come down crying because he wants to get to sleep but can't Sad I'm so ready for bed!! He does "know" but we try and keep the magic alive.

CringleXmas · 24/12/2023 23:37

I've just sorted the stocking but just as I walked into the bedroom someone was letting off fireworks! It was silent before and now silent after. Luckily dd didn't wake up though.

We’ve also never done them. Never visited Father Christmas, no gifts from Father Christmas and never left a carrot, drink, etc out.
