Last year I had flu, now I’ve got covid! Anyone want to join my pity party?

Me!
Don't think it was flu I had last Christmas but was a nasty cough/respiratory thing and I was miserable.
Tested positive for COVID yesterday.
The joys.

Mindymomo · 24/12/2023 13:37

The gift that keeps giving, hope you are feeling better soon. My adult DS has somehow avoided it thus far, half his workmates caught Covid after a Xmas meal out, some stayed at home, but some still came in, clearly unwell and have passed it around. A few are still unwell 10 days later.

YeahRatFans · 24/12/2023 14:07

We have it. I'm waiting for a phone call telling me where to go for antivirals, eldest two are really ill in bed and PIL are still insistent on coming round tomorrow despite MIL being immunosuppressed and was hospitalised for weeks last time she had it. I suspect FIL hasn't told her. Luckily it's just a passing visit as they're off to the golden child for lunch.

SplendidPendips · 24/12/2023 16:10

I tested positive this morning. Gutted as we've had to cancel plans that my kids are upset about. But at least I had finished wrapping all of the presents etc

DrunkenKoala · 24/12/2023 16:25

I’ll join!
2021 DS had covid
2022 I had covid
2023 DP had an accident last week, hospitalised and needed operation, came home two days ago, today we’ve been back at hosp with infection, now discharged with antibiotics but FUCKING HELL!!!

buonnatale · 24/12/2023 16:30

Tested positive this morning. 🙋‍♀️

GrandmistressGlitch · 24/12/2023 16:41

Tested positive yesterday morning, been in bed since 🙋‍♀️

Blodwyn831 · 24/12/2023 21:39

Hi can I join? Tested positive on weds and had to cancel all Christmas plans because I feel awful, worst sore throat one ever had. Meant to be getting a flight on 27th to see family. Really hoping I'm well enough by then but the idea of travelling while feeling like this fills me with dread.

Quietplaces · 24/12/2023 21:43

Another one for the pity party, I tested positive on 22nd and now feeling horrendous, no energy whatsoever and like my head is full of rocks. Irritable at everyone too which is making for a happy Christmas. So gutted with it all, especially as it's the first Christmas without my mum so was going to be shit anyway and now we can't see my dad so he's got to spend Christmas alone, bar a Skype session or two.

HeartandSeoul · 24/12/2023 22:13

My DH tested positive yesterday, just before we were heading out to see family 😞. I’m just thankful we hadn’t spent the day with my Dad (due to start chemo again soon). All plans with both families are cancelled, and the big day will spent at home eating rubbish! My two kids (pre-teen/teen) have been very understanding, which has helped.

Tenpintonpin · 24/12/2023 22:20

Yes please, I'll join in! Had flu last year and had to delay Christmas Dinner until mid January. Tested positive for covid yesterday morning, feeling rotten, and have had to cancel Christmas plans again (although DH is going to cook the turkey tomorrow come hell or high water, apparently).

Poppins17 · 24/12/2023 22:46

Not joining the pity party, but sending my best wishes to you all.

I had what the doctor described as ‘mild flu’ last year, and felt absolutely awful. It was a totally rubbish Christmas.

Hope you can all make the best of it xx

pastapestoparmesan · 24/12/2023 22:52

I’m actually feeling a lot better now, but not hopeful for a negative in the morning.

I don't understand why all these people are testing.... have I gone back in time 3 years? Just stop!

SplendidPendips · 24/12/2023 23:31

Because we are feeling incredibly ill and don't want to pass that on to anyone else....

Do you not understand that the reason many of the previous posters have relatives that are medically unwell or vulnerable?

It’s not illegal to look out for loved ones if that’s what you choose!

Jingleballs2 · 24/12/2023 23:40

People are testing because they have very vulnerable relatives they don't wish to kill off 🙄

My son was bedridden all last week, me and dh tested positive earlier this week but both fine now. Son seems to have either caught something else or had some sort of relapse tonight and sent himself off to bed early without any christmas excitement ☹️

Treaclepie19 · 24/12/2023 23:45

Hope you all feel better soon ❤️
We've got colds and dd3 has a chest infection and tonsillitis but thankfully it's all on the way out. Hope you can still have a nice day.

MegBusset · 24/12/2023 23:47

I don’t have Covid but do have a stomach bug :( sympathy to all those feeling crappy!

PeanutAndBanana · 24/12/2023 23:59

Yep. Got it from DS. Don't want to pass it on to parents or sister who is CEV so we are hunkering down here and will make our own fun tomorrow. We've got food, wine, some gifts. And I don't feel too bad at this point though did feel rather rough on Thursday and Friday.

SuziLikeSuziQ · 25/12/2023 00:15

I tested positive on the 23rd so I will join the pity party.

Today was a fairly horrible day. DS's 5th birthday, but it's just been the 3 of us. The rest of my family were altogether for the big Christmas today and my brother sent me a photo of them all enjoying their Christmas lunch so that was nice of him. We had a sandwich each for lunch. One Zoom call from them, but they clearly just wanted to get back to their fun time so it barely lasted 15 minutes. I'm hoping DS still had a nice birthday.

Christmas Day will be the 3 of us again, instead of hosting parents and friends and Boxing Day will be the 3 of us again, instead of going to my in-laws.

This is not the Christmas I wanted and I'm not ashamed to say I have cried plenty (after DS was in bed) today plus I've eaten too many pringles and boursin.

(And for those wondering why I tested, I was feeling ill Saturday morning and have vulnerable family members and the in laws are old and one is particularly frail. So I didn't want to chance giving any of them a cause to be hospitalised.
I hope that doesn't offend you. /sarcasm)

Oxborn · 25/12/2023 00:22

Yep Covid from Santa here

Rosesandstars · 25/12/2023 00:36

I'm on day 21 now (25th!) and still really poorly-urgh. Hope you get on better than me OP! Merry Covid!
