Mine is absolutely the Albert Finney musical version. I love the big musical numbers but Tiny Tim singing 'On a beautiful Winter's morning' makes me shiver every time.

OP posts:

I'm pleased that both of mine have been mentioned already.

A Christmas Carol from 1999 with Patrick Stewart is the definitive version for me, probably as it was the one I grew up with.

Also the musical with Kelsey Grammer. Been belting the soundtrack all morning while doing my Xmas lunch prep. 'ABUNDANCE, CHARITY, GOODWILL TOWARD MEN!!!!!!!'

hammyhamster72 · 24/12/2023 14:29

Albert Finney version is the absolute best the music is fantastic - have watched it every year for about 40 years!

Monr0e · 24/12/2023 14:32

Scrooged
Muppets Christmas Carol
And the BBC Guy Pearce version, very dark but very very good

LaurieStrode · 24/12/2023 14:34

George C Scott, followed by Alistair Sim

NooNakedJacuzziness · 24/12/2023 14:36

Alastair Sim first, then the Albert Finney one just for "if I had a bugle I would blow it, just to add a sort of how's your father touch, but because I left me bugle at home I'll simply ave to say thank you very very very much!"

Is this streaming anywhere? I can remember watching it when it first came out but I can't remember where!

I'm not sure only remember seeing on YouTube

peanutbutter00 · 24/12/2023 11:56

Alistair Sim the black and white version, and Muppets Christmas Carol

Mine too.
He's reminds me of ex father in law (after he's turned good) awesome guy!

LaurieFairyCake · 24/12/2023 17:44

Patrick Stewart

But for the first time ever I'm watching the earliest version ever made - 1935! right now

Scrooge is very very dirty and miserly with himself and not just with others

Lots of lines missed out that I'm really familiar with (from the Stewart version)

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 24/12/2023 18:21

Scrooged (we decorate to this)

Muppets

Ross Kemp

In that order!

LyndaSnellsSniff · 24/12/2023 18:23

Muppet Christmas Carol without a shadow of a doubt. There are so many wonderful moments. The tiny mice "no cheeses for us meeces", the bit were Rizzo has to (unwillingly) jump from the top of the railings and then it transpires he can fit between the bars, "light the lamp, not the rat!", Rizzo kissing Gonzo on the nose. It's just perfect...we'll, apart from that overly long love song.

And Blackadder's Christmas Carol. "Mrs Scratchett, I suspect that to be a lie of sorts." 🤣

Lovethatforyouhun · 24/12/2023 18:46

Bill Murray all day

SugarCookieMonster · 24/12/2023 20:21

Muppets is one of my favourites. However, I discovered Scrooge an animated Netflix film with Luke Evans voicing Scrooge. DS and I love the songs (they even do a bit with ‘Thank you very much’).

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 24/12/2023 20:25

Alistair Sim is my favorite with the Albert Finney musical a close 2nd.

WellThatWasUnfortunate · 24/12/2023 21:15

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 24/12/2023 21:23

Xatz63 · 24/12/2023 11:43

I really like the modern one with Ross Kemp

I love love love that version! So glad it's on ITVx this year as some years it's been impossible to find!!

baileybrosbuildingandloan · 24/12/2023 21:28

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee it's on ITVx this year!

GoldenFishes · 24/12/2023 21:31

The muppets, I love how brilliant Michael Caine is despite acting with puppets.
The Blackadder, God Rest Ye Mr Blackadder gets me everything.

slavetothekittens · 24/12/2023 11:52

Scrooged with Bill Murray, never fails to make me laugh, I love the fairy Ghost of Christmas Present.

Yes was going to say Scrooged with Bill Murray.

MargotMoon · 24/12/2023 21:37
  1. Muppets
  2. Blackadder
  3. Mickey Mouse
stargirl1701 · 24/12/2023 21:44

Muppets first

The Jim Carrey Disney version second.

Patrick Stewart third.

Whatineed · 24/12/2023 21:47

Blackadders Christmas Carol :

Where's the milk of human kindness?

It's gone off Balderick. It stinks.

Zampa · 24/12/2023 21:48

Scrooged is really problematic for a modern audience. The treatment of women and the workplace gun violence couldn't make it into a film now. I do like it but it can't be top of the list for those reasons

So Muppets or the Jim Carrey Disney one for me. Both very faithful to the text.

Desdemona44 · 24/12/2023 21:51

Albert finney musical one! We watched it's twice this afternoon, because we both fell asleep during and missed different bits so we just let it play again 😂

Hastheslotharrivedyet · 24/12/2023 21:57

REP22 · 24/12/2023 12:54

Muppet Christmas Carol. Yes it's the Muppets, which I love, but underneath the Muppet/Disney humour and trappings, it's a cracking performance as Scrooge by Michael Caine.

Just watched it for the umpteenth Christmas Eve and never tire of it. Beautifully put together. Makes you laugh, makes you cry. A delight x

RiaOverTheRainbow · 24/12/2023 22:01

Muppets Christmas Carol, hands down.

I'm sure I saw one where the same ghost did present and future, think they made a quip about budget cuts, but I've no idea which version it was! Can anyone help?
