How many Christmas presents did you get your kids?

It's 3am. I'm exhausted and I've got a full day of work tomorrow plus a million things to do so obviously I am thinking I absolutely need to find out what other people do.

But genuinely curious. How many presents do you get your kids and how old are they?

Mine are getting about 10 each ( 7 and 3 year old) under the tree and 5-6 in their stocking.

The stocking items are one or two small toys and otherwise chocs and sticker kind of things. The 10 under the tree include books, clothes and craft boxes. There are no big ticket items. I mean none of the presents are more than £20. About 5 of them are from us and the rest from friends and relatives. And they might get a couple more tomorrow from other people.

I really wanted to cut down this year but somehow didn't. Like every other year.

It's silly but I keep seeing stuff that I'd really like them to have though for the older one I have tried to mainly stick to her Christmas wish list. I'll keep one or two back for Easter or their birthdays. And now sleep!!

Four under the tree from Santa, but a full fabulous stocking on the bed. Stocking included lots of useful things they'll need thought the year, like: socks, pants, stationery, toiletries, hair bands, a few little gimmick things, and a few treats things. No big ticket items this year.

Must vary a bit from other families depending on how many gifts yours get from elsewhere. Mine get nothing from anyone else.

EasternEcho · 24/12/2023 04:41

My 6 year old is also getting very similar to yours. 10 gifts under the tree mostly from Santa, including books, toys, and clothes. A couple of stockings. Husband and I have no extended family around so child gets no other gifts than these.

MangshorJhol · 24/12/2023 04:59

No stockings here (we are not Christian also). One present from Santa, 3 from us and one each from the grandparents. And one present from each other. So 7 things to unwrap per child. One of mine is 12 so doesn’t believe in Santa but decided to keep it going for his sibling.
Christmas Eve the elves send new pajamas and a Christmas theme related book.

RichPetunia · 24/12/2023 05:13

My grown up daughter is getting a chocolate orange (gets this every year), a Pandora charm, a puzzle book, a travel guide, Hotel Chocolate hot chocolate and 3 DVDs (secondhand but with an actor she likes). I know she'll love everything❤️.

Gemstonebeach · 24/12/2023 05:21

We do want, wear, read, need under the tree as there are lots of aunties and uncles so it can get a bit excessive toy wise. The kids also get a stocking from Santa which has a toy and then things like socks, underwear, bubbles, chocolate in it etc.

Reba767 · 24/12/2023 05:40

Teenagers here.
2 presents under the tree each.
And a stocking full of bits and pieces. Dd 14 has got about 30 things - nail varnish, lip gloss, socks etc etc....

PuttingDownRoots · 24/12/2023 05:46

2 presents from us (all hobby equipment this year)
1 each from sister
Stocking a mix of practical and fun stuff, nothing costing more than £4.

From family... loads. I don't count. Just don't buy a lot to compensate for it.

ChristmasCwtch · 24/12/2023 06:07

Ours have 10 presents (mostly games and books, then 3/4 toys) from Santa, a stocking with 12 smaller gifts in and then a bigger joint present from us.

DH and I grew up with very different Christmas experiences… I used to get a pillowcase as a stocking and sofa full of presents, all from Santa, whereas he used to get a smaller stocking from Santa and 1 present from his parents. So this is our compromise. He always wants to get less and I always want to get more, so I work to an agreed budget instead.

autienotnaughty · 24/12/2023 06:07

Ten pressies and 5/6 sticking fillers. Spent around £100 each.

caringcarer · 24/12/2023 06:23

My DC are adults now but all still get a stocking from Santa with about 9 gifts in. These are things like a hoody, bedside lamp, shower gel, selection box, Toblerone, a book, socks, pants, tyre pressure kit for car. Then they have a budget from me and can choose 1 large gift or a few smaller gifts up to set budget. DS 1 a large technic adult Lego set, a Velvetiser, pair of boots.

MintJulia · 24/12/2023 06:44

I haven't done any big ticket items this year because ds15 has just been on an exchange trip abroad which was expensive. So he has nine presents including toiletries, clothes, chocolate, fun stuff and a lower end 'experience'

He has a df, uncles and cousins who will also buy for him.

shivawn · 24/12/2023 06:50

It was originally 10 but I'm useless and have already given him two of the bigger items over the last month. He's 2 and we have a 4 week old newborn baby so I've had times where I just wanted to distract him with something new and exciting so I could keep everyone happy. The baby just got 2 small presents from santa wrapped under the tree, mainly for the toddlers benefit.

Amrythings · 24/12/2023 06:53

4 and 2 have one big tree present and about ten things in their stockings each (dressing gowns, small toys, sweets, 4's new mini rugby kit).

DSD is turning 21, so she has her birthday present, tree present and about twelve stocking things. And an extremely fancy cake.

LaSpuddle · 24/12/2023 06:53

3 each under the tree from us. Apart from dc4 as dp had bought them something too and I forgot so they have 4. Theirs are cheaper anyway.
1 big present from Father Christmas (£30 ish)
Big stocking with about 20 things in

4 dc between 18 and 4 years old

Itsthemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 24/12/2023 06:56

One from Santa plus a stocking with about ten items. Then about 12 presents from us - caveat 4 of the gifts belong to the same set of toys and she won’t get any gifts from anyone else

Iwanthatone · 24/12/2023 06:56

Tree presents around 20 each- cba counting stocking presents- 2 dds, 14 & 12

stargirl1701 · 24/12/2023 06:57

4 presents under the tree, one present from Father Christmas and a stocking.

Plus gifts from grandparents and godparents.

SnowsFalling · 24/12/2023 07:03

4 things under the tree from us. So will get 6 presents under the tree in total, as there will be something from my parents, and something from my Aunt.
Plus a stocking that has quite a lot of small stuff in - books, chocolate, a little puzzle thing, new socks etc.

PointeShoesandTutus · 24/12/2023 07:05

Wow! I feel a bit mean!

Mine get a stocking with one biggish toy (Curlimal for DD1 and dolls pram for DD2) and 5 little things - sweets, stickers, colouring book, lip balm, hair bobbles, story book, socks, glow sticks sort of thing.

Then just the one from me and DH under the tree. This year DD1 has a karaoke machine and DD2 has a big Peppa Pig set.

They will get more from aunties, grandparents, family friends etc though. We still seem to be overwhelmed each year!

rickyrickygrimes · 24/12/2023 07:11

Two boys. 16 and 13. Obviously they don’t believe in Santa any more, but they still get a stocking with toiletries, chocolate, etc. Under the tree one big present each - expensive trainers / boots - from us, plus a nifty travel toilet bag, as they both have big school trips this year (first since Covid). We live abroad so most family have given money - I’ll make up some fancy vouchers on Canva to give them then transfer the money later.

DH has bought some new board games, which are more for the family.

it doesn’t look like much, we are really trying to cut down on the consumer side of Christmas and enjoy time off work / together without loads of stuff.

Longwhiskers · 24/12/2023 07:13

Stockings are my favourite things so a very full stocking of fun little bits

one present each from Father Christmas

one main present each from us then books/ a set of bath bombs and a chocolate selection thing

they'll also get presents from aunts/uncles, grandparents

Fairydustandsparklylights · 24/12/2023 07:19

A stocking each with chocolate and small bits. Then 18 Father Christmas presents each under the tree plus approx 5 from us, then grandparents and a couple from friends. They absolutely love it and squeal with delight when they see it all in the morning. They range from small bits to bigger bits. We don’t tend to go all out on birthdays but for Christmas we budget about £400 per child.

OhpoorMe · 24/12/2023 07:30

I always scoff at people with a floor covered in presents but this is making me realise we're nearer that end of the spectrum than I realised 😳. Ours get a stocking from Santa with little bits in, then about 10-15 from us, and probably another 15-20 from family. But they're the only kids on both sides so definitely benefit from that!

Metallicant · 24/12/2023 07:31

I made a conscious decision to reel it all in this year. Instead of a big pile of presents my teenagers have one big present and a stocking of small things.
