How many Christmas presents did you get your kids?

It's 3am. I'm exhausted and I've got a full day of work tomorrow plus a million things to do so obviously I am thinking I absolutely need to find out what other people do.

But genuinely curious. How many presents do you get your kids and how old are they?

Mine are getting about 10 each ( 7 and 3 year old) under the tree and 5-6 in their stocking.

The stocking items are one or two small toys and otherwise chocs and sticker kind of things. The 10 under the tree include books, clothes and craft boxes. There are no big ticket items. I mean none of the presents are more than £20. About 5 of them are from us and the rest from friends and relatives. And they might get a couple more tomorrow from other people.

I really wanted to cut down this year but somehow didn't. Like every other year.

It's silly but I keep seeing stuff that I'd really like them to have though for the older one I have tried to mainly stick to her Christmas wish list. I'll keep one or two back for Easter or their birthdays. And now sleep!!

Mine also do lists but one’s list is always much longer than the other so I have to make a deliberate point of NOT gettting everything on his list as, IMO, it’s too long. He knows that now though.

I always tell my DD that it's a wish list and not an order list (read that somewhere so its not original but I like it) and at some point before Christmas we go through her list and I ask her if she still really wants them as we start the list fairly early. If she asks for something (non essential) In the second half of the year I tell her to put in on her wish list ajd in the first half of the year on her birthday list. Helps us stop the impulse buying and for her to think about what she really wants.

About 10 things each under the tree (consisting of books, medium toys, eg Barbie set and magnetic tiles and main present, which are yoto minis).

15 things each in stocking (things like bath bombs, glow in the dark stars, rubix cube, card games, mini Playmobil sets, etc).

A couple of joint games.

Terfosaurus · 24/12/2023 15:33

I think I've got them 3 or 4 each
Then maybe 7-8 little things in the stockings.

psuedocream3 · 24/12/2023 15:37

I've cut back this year, just seven presents each and not expensive ones at that.

I'm not sure about stockings, enough bits to fill them, again nothing expensive.

I think we will be cutting back again next year.

For my Older 2 kids about 5. My 16 is having a built computer for Christmas/birthday which in bits would be about 8 but together 1 still installing games on it yet. My youngest has about 10 but he's asked for a Xbox that was after I got a PlayStation portal thing. So the others are small cars which he wanted and some Lego.

15 under tree and 20 in stocking, a few under tree are obviously bigger/key things asked for

EnglishRose1320 · 24/12/2023 15:51

We do 3 under the tree, one "Father Christmas" one (they are far too old to believe but still enjoy the pretending!), one from us & then one from each other. Plus they will have 2 from grandparents. That's all under the tree.

Then we do go a bit overboard stocking wise, 20 gifts each, but we do 5 something to read, 5 something you need, 5 something to eat & 5 something you want, which seems to work well. As they get older the something you want seems to become more like the something you need each year as well.

Have spent more than usual this year, but have focused on buying less things for the sake of it & more things they really need, so a lot of the gifts are practical & will last well, hopefully!

Mine have three each plus stockings. We do the five senses for stockings and it’s cheap but cheerful stuff like socks and bath bombs.

2 things from santa each from their list, and we tend to get them 2 or 3 things. They then get presents from the rest of the family

StragglyTinsel · 24/12/2023 16:23

the 14 year old has 3 presents. And a stocking.

The 3 year old has 6 presents and a stocking. His cost far less than his brother’s though. And the boxes are much bigger.

Cubbysnowdog · 24/12/2023 16:30

One thing each under the tree from us. About 15 things (ranging from main present, books, clothing, craft stuff) plus stocking from Santa. All chosen well and things they will love so not piles of tat.
Im as excited as the kids now to get this show on the road.
