What are you eating between Christmas and NY?

I need help with my meal plan before going shopping today!

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are sorted. I'd like some reasonably quick, easy, cheap(!) meals to eat in the week leading up to NY, but I have zero inspiration.

The leftovers buffet of course!
This is the same over about 3 days, culminating in turkey curry.

MintJulia · 21/12/2023 08:24

left overs.

Cold roast & salad
curry made with remains of the roast
Turkey soup made with the carcase
Brocolli & stilton soup
Bubble & squeak
Chunky vegetable broth with wholemeal bread
Omelettes with leftover cheese & veg

Baked beans on toast when I've had enough of the rich stuff.

I love the week between Xmas & NY. No need to shop or cook much. Just assemble whatever is left in the fridge.

And I realise that assumes there are any leftovers, a fortunate situation. It's the one week in my year I don't stick to a tight food budget.

Anything using cold meat 😂😂😂

having a ham Christmas Eve, then turkey then lamb. So will have left overs from that. Plan so far

c/e - ham crusty bread salads
c/d - turkey
b/d - lamb

then - meat platter bubble and squeak, Christmas pie, risotto, carbonara, curry night, Christmas pizza,

mind has gone blank now 😂. I tend to gather all the left overs on the 27/28th and freeze some if needed/make stock/soup .

I personally love that time between Christmas and New Year, loads of left overs for easy meals.

Dibblydoodahdah · 21/12/2023 08:27

Cheese, pâté and wine, lots of it!

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 21/12/2023 08:29

I make a huge gammon on Christmas Day. I will make bread on Boxing Day and then use the leftovers for ham egg and chips and for sandwiches.
Im making sausage rolls, a quiche and will have a paella one of the days. Also I’m planning on getting a few bags of the 15p potatoes to make chips.

We're having a Christmas poutine. Leftover stuffing, turkey, pigs in blankets (yeah right, I'll totally have to cook a fresh batch) and sprouts on a bed of chips with cheese curds, smothered in southern gravy.

FountainofTruth · 21/12/2023 09:48

Boxing day is leftovers with whatever veg we didn't cook. I'm back to work 27th and I'll take party food (cheeses, eggs, salad and pork pies) to work for lunch for a few days. Evenings food will be something quick; pad Thai noodles, prawn cocktail baked potatoes etc. Next Friday it will be a honey sugared gammon dinner with season veg and potatoes, the next day the left over gammon with be served with caramelised pineapple, chios and peas.

In no particular order the grocery shop has provisions for -

  1. Spaghetti carbonara
  2. Tricolore fusilli with mascarpone and tomato
  3. Nachos with some of the many cheeses and sour cream and jalapeño
  4. Chicken and mushroom pie
  5. Steak pie
  6. party food, garlic bread and pizzas
  7. One humungous whole side of salmon
  8. Bread + Leftovers from 3 roast Christmas meal (lamb, beef, pork)

Plus : Cheese selection, crackers, 4 stockings worth of chocolate, chutneys, Pineapples, grapes, milk, cereals.

Our usual normal is batch cooked curries/casseroles so we really really really want this one week to be utterly different and not reheated meals or “wet” meals … (I say this as an Indian person who batch cooks some delectable curries on a weekly basis!)

GMsAWinner · 21/12/2023 10:39

Haven't planned food other than for xmas day, but we usually have something like a vegetable and chickpea curry, pizza (and salad bought for xmas). Pasta always goes down well here as well.

Bumblebeesince19 · 21/12/2023 11:21

My fave is "boxing day pie", a selection of leftover meats, stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy, served with leftover veggies and mash :)
This year though, we are at the in laws- so no leftovers for us!

OMG, can I come to your house? I love poutine.
Where do you get your cheese curds from?

Mustbethemulledwine · 21/12/2023 14:14

Ham egg and chips, ham salad, turkey curry, turkey sandwiches, party food, cheese board.
Oh, and my weight in chocolate 😂

We're also having this. Thanks for the idea! Sounds absolutely amazing 😋

Christmassss · 21/12/2023 21:00

Beef stroganoff
fish pie
gammon eggs and chips
a couple of dinners out socialising.

OhRightyThen · 21/12/2023 21:51

Some sort of carbonara with boxing day ham. Bacon quiche probably with chips. Pulled pork roast. Then pulled pork leftovers. And turkey sandwiches every day until January 😅

New year dinner yet to be decided. After years of confirming to family traditions we've realised we're actually grown ups and can now choose something different 😱 also fuelled by the fact I have three kids under 6 so most nice things are wasted anyway!. We're going to the local farm shop Nye and picking what we want, whatever we want (including chipolatas or whatever is chosen by the kids). Can't wait!

Jakadaal · 21/12/2023 22:11
