Wrapping paper from santa

dreamygirl25 · 17/12/2023 07:54

In the past, I've wrapped santa gifts in one type of paper, then gifts from us in a different type.
Does anyone not do this and do your 6/7/8 year old children make the connection?

I'm struggling with my mental health at the moment and can barely face doing much at all right now so please be kind - it may be another thing I seem to be over thinking! When I was little I remember noticing Santa's handwriting was the same as my mum/dad's and the paper was the same but it never stopped my disbelief!

I don't wrap things from Santa at all. Life is far too short (and I say that as someone who really enjoys wrapping presents and is good at it). But then again our Santa just brings a stocking and a new outfit so I guess if yours is bringing more substantial presents it would be tricky not to.

mumonthehill · 17/12/2023 08:02

I used to do this as well, different paper for stockings. Was a relief when this stopped as hiding all the paper was stressful. Although it did add to the magic for them. However just do with what you can cope with.

Rinkymcdinky · 17/12/2023 08:03

I’ve used some different paper for stockings.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 17/12/2023 08:06

I do this, because I know DD would notice. She is now a non believer (had spotted a different detail I had missed and worked it out!), and I've decided not to do different paper this year as DS won't notice or care. So... depends on your child. But also be kind to yourself- if it causes stress then it isn't worth it

onlyoneoftheregimentinstep · 17/12/2023 08:10

I always wrap Santa presents in different paper.

Snoodleberry · 17/12/2023 08:12

Different paper in our household. My parents once (35 years ago) sourced different Christmassy tape to seal up the presents from Father Christmas, and I remember my younger brother and sister who were still only just believing thinking that it must mean he was real. 😂 I felt smug that year!

LaSpuddle · 17/12/2023 08:14

I don’t wrap anything in the stocking and they then just get one present from Father Christmas which is usually wrapped in different paper but this year I might not bother wrapping it for the younger ones as it’s huge!

90yomakeuproom · 17/12/2023 08:14

Why don't you get a big sack or stocking and put them in there unwrapped. Or use tissue paper to wrap a few.

Pascha · 17/12/2023 08:16

Santa buys wrapping paper in tesco too. Just use what you have and don't worry about it. The kids probably won't notice.

do this go online get your son to pick something and use it. another thing you could do is just drape a roll of paper over the presents I'm sorry your struggling, your mental health is more important than wrapping paper.

Lulu1919 · 17/12/2023 08:28

Father Christmas has different paper to the under the tree gifts from mum and dad
...mine are 30 and I still do this ha ha it's just a tradition now

Persipan · 17/12/2023 08:31

This. And more important than your children figuring out Santa, which they are going to do eventually anyway however much wrapping paper you deploy. Be kind to yourself and do what you can manage.

Raindancer411 · 17/12/2023 08:34

The Father Christmas present is wrapped in a shiny paper...

DoorPath · 17/12/2023 08:34

Definitely different wrapping paper from Santa

AnotherVice · 17/12/2023 08:37

God this reminds me of one year I found myself stressing I might be caught out by my fingerprints on the sellotape. I had words with myself! I always did separate paper but in all honesty I don't think the kids would have noticed either way. Be kind to yourself.

miniegg3 · 17/12/2023 08:38

I use santa paper for santa gifts and gifts from us I use our normal paper. I hide all the trimming either straight in the wheelie bin or in a poo bag in the kitchen bin. He's too observant! Ds is 5 and would definitely notice.. although I remember commenting that santa had the same paper as us as a kid, but still believed for a while, so 🤷‍♀️

megletthesecond · 17/12/2023 08:39

Santa presents are never wrapped in this family.
He even has two identical stockings my DC's so they can be instantly swapped with the filled ones and he can jump back into his sleigh quickly.

pinklemonata · 17/12/2023 08:40

Always wrap Santas present in different Paper here - normally it's red with a cartoon Santa on! Also write the labels in different handwriting to my own.. part of the Magic I think and DCs would notice 100% if I wrapped everything in the same Paper!

AngelontopoftheTree · 17/12/2023 08:41

Santa's presents are never wrapped in this house, saves a ton of stress!

ThequalityoftheReps · 17/12/2023 08:42

Santa is clearly a narcissist because in my house he brings stocking gifts wrapped in paper with his face on 😃

Seriously though OP. Your MH is more important - I've been there at Xmas with severe depression and it's sucks. Hope the season isn't too painful for you Flowers

Knackeredhamster · 17/12/2023 08:44

Different paper still.
DC is 21.
Can't risk it

ApolloandDaphne · 17/12/2023 08:51

This is the first year I haven't done this. My DC are aged 26 and 31!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/12/2023 08:52

I have always used separate paper but I have no idea if anyone noticed!! Ours are late teens now.
This year we will be with Dnephew on Christmas morning. He’s on the brink of not believing. I am still doing stockings for ours but very small as I need to fly everything out. Our stockings will have different paper to dnephew’s but his parents aren’t bothered about that (I would have tried to make it matching if it was ours who were on the brink). I guess what I’m trying to say is we’re all different and don’t worry. If your dc’s gifts from Santa are in the same paper as the other gifts under the tree then that can just be a funny coincidence that Santa’s elves have got the same good taste as you!
Do as little as it takes to get through this period and I wish you good health going forwards xxx

Ponderingwindow · 17/12/2023 08:54

I wrap Santa presents in red and white paper.

Children aren’t stupid. Of course they will notice things like you using the same paper. I remember being 5 and reading “made in China” on an item and realizing Santa wasn’t real.

FluffMagnet · 17/12/2023 08:55

I noticed as a 3 Yr old that my mum had used the same paper, and ever since then she left them unwrapped. As such, I don't wrap anything in stocking for my children either. Too much hard work and paper wastage.
