Wrapping paper from santa

dreamygirl25 · 17/12/2023 07:54

In the past, I've wrapped santa gifts in one type of paper, then gifts from us in a different type.
Does anyone not do this and do your 6/7/8 year old children make the connection?

I'm struggling with my mental health at the moment and can barely face doing much at all right now so please be kind - it may be another thing I seem to be over thinking! When I was little I remember noticing Santa's handwriting was the same as my mum/dad's and the paper was the same but it never stopped my disbelief!

thank you! In fact I've just bought a big pack of multicoloured sheets on Amazon! Xmas Grin That patterned holly paper is beautiful, far too lovely for kids to rip off Santa stocking presents!

goMe46 · 18/12/2023 21:56

I wonder if not wrapping in separate paper will only add to your low mood at the moment though.......if you can manage ,to wrap a couple in different paper , think of the sense of achievement and accomplishment afterwards.

I think it'll be a weight off your mind.
Get it out of the way with some music on.

God this reminds me of one year I found myself stressing I might be caught out by my fingerprints on the sellotape. I had words with myself! I always did separate paper but in all honesty I don't think the kids would have noticed either way. Be kind to yourself.

Oh gosh, I've thought this too! I've decided I watch too much crime drama 😬 The episode of Lewis or possibly Endeavour where the woman was caught out by her fingerprint, or thumb print, under the stamp despite no prints being on the letter itself. She was very careful but not careful enough and that sticky bloody scotch tape is full of my fingerprints! Although I have different tape for FC presents. And plain brown paper with a North Pole wax seal and ribbon. FC being more eco-friendly now I said.

I remember at age 5 noticing that it was my mum's handwriting proclaiming something was from Father Christmas but I didn't think anything more of it. Maybe sometimes mums have to write the tags to differentiate between presents? It's just helping out FC. Team work and all that. Jeez why do we do this to ourselves?

Mindovermatter247 · 18/12/2023 22:41

Yep I separated, still do as dd still believes, and she’s very observant so I know she would have noticed. I just hide the Santa paper in the back of my wardrobe

Jacfrost · 18/12/2023 22:47

Yes Father Christmas uses different paper, the cheap kind that comes in sheets. He also uses tissue paper - that's what I'd use in your situation OP. doesn't need to be neatly wrapped whatsoever, the elves have a lot to get through and they work quickly 😂 just scrunch tissue paper around it all

AddieLoggins2 · 19/12/2023 13:19

I definitely think they would notice.

I can remember being about 9 and questioning Santa, so I went in search of the Santa paper. I remember thinking there is no way I'll be able to find the presents - they would be too well hidden - but if I find the paper then I'll know it was my mum.

I didn't find it though.

fortifiedwithtea · 19/12/2023 13:27

The paper was how I found out Santa wasn’t real. I had a game from Santa. My cousin had the same game from my parents also in the same paper and I put 2+2 together.

for my own children I told them Santa delivers the presents but no way has he time to wrap for all the children of the world so we wrap for him. My children are now 25 and 21 and still want a Santa stocking.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 19/12/2023 14:44

It's just taken me 4 hours to wrap my children's presents so I'm on team make it easy for yourself. My knees and back are aching and I'm knackered and that's without being unwell so you look after yourself and remember that your children will be thrilled and happy on Christmas Day and that even if they do notice something, it doesn't mean they won't believe. I still believe now despite the fact I've just wrapped the FC presents. I have great cognitive dissonance at Christmas🎄

Dasy2k1 · 21/12/2023 18:05

Santa never wrapped anything in my family
But that's mainly because the only presents from santa was the stocking/sack (a Christmas pillowcase)

CuteCillian · 21/12/2023 18:09

don't wrap things from Santa at all as if he (or the elves), have time to wrap! Presents are just shoved in the stockings and anything bigger left next to it.

DiaNaranja · 21/12/2023 18:19

Santa only delivers the stockings in our house, and nothing in those is wrapped, so don't have this issue. Cut yourself some slack op, and just let the little things go this year, it's not worth getting yourself stressed over things like this, as on the day the kids will be too excited to even look at the wrapping paper no doubt. If they questioned it, I'd just say that I was running out of wrapping paper so left a note for Santa asking if he had any I could use, and he dropped some down the chimney. Or, because you lot have been so good, Santa ran out of time/wrapping paper for all your gifts, so I quickly wrapped the ones he hadn't done. Or, just chuck Santas gifts in an Xmas bag and wrap the bag/put a big bow on it and seal it, so it looks like one big present, as I'm sure they'd love the excitement of opening what they think is one present and realising its alot more. Whatever you do, the kids will have a great day, it's the memories, not the gifts, least not, how they're wrapped. One year we ran out of paper so they had a handful of presents wrapped in the tin foil that was meant to be for the turkey 🤣... (I know this isn't particularly eco friendly but we were desperate and did salvage what we could and rammed the rest into empty tin cans for recycling afterwards) Did they notice or care? Nope, they actually loved the "shiny paper" that ripped off really easily, and then spent ages playing with balls of tin foil instead of their presents...

idontlikealdi · 21/12/2023 18:51

4yo Dts made the connection. Thankfully we are past those days now!

Mummyme87 · 21/12/2023 18:55

My eldest would notice, I wrap all Santa presents including stocking in different paper and different for each child so they know whose is who.

however, your MH is more important than this and if it’s too much just don’t. I’ve got spare paper you could have if you live in south London/Surrey borders and I can drop it to you if you really wanted different and can’t face the world

cocoya · 22/12/2023 00:53

I noticed when I was 6 and casually mentioned to my Mum that Santa has the same wrapping paper as us, but it didn't have any impact on me believing or not. Just a coincidence

AlltheFs · 22/12/2023 01:00

Separate paper here and that was what my parents did until I was about 23 lol.

My DD would notice and we love the magic of it - I may be 45 but a part of me still believes in fairies and is holding out for a Hogwarts letter.

But in your position I’d suggest just don’t wrap them or buy a giant gift bag/sack and shove it all in. We don’t wrap the in stocking gifts, just the bigger ones anyway.

Do something to keep them distinct, so definitely not the same paper, but don’t sweat it either.

PandaG · 22/12/2023 01:15

We always used different paper for stocking presents, with FC on. However, in your situation I'd either not wrap the rest of the stocking presents, or use whatever else you gave to hand and leave the leftovers out for FC in case he needs some as per PP. Do whatever you need to to get through the next few days, hope you can find some joy in amongst the difficulty right now, and that any advice/meds the GP has offers are helpful. I'm very thankful that my ADs help keep me ticking over

These days stocking get wrapped in the outer wrappers of the who gives a crap loo roll, but dc are in their 20s and approve of the recycling.

Hillbilly · 22/12/2023 01:18

My DCs are now 18 and 16 and I found 2 rolls of "Santa" paper in the back of my cupboard last week. They thought it was really funny when I explained 😆

familyissues12345 · 22/12/2023 01:41

We never bothered, I have a friend who had a lot of angst over Santa paper - hiding it/expecting no one to use it for presents for her son etc. Just seemed like too much drama for me!
