I wrote this list for absolutely no reason for my friends. Maybe there was a reason actually. I can't remember. Anyway here it is. Maybe it'll spark an idea for someone and be helpful!!

  1. Mugs! You use them everyday so always think of the person. I like the Anna & Nina funny ones. Also Outlandish Creations. Gorgeous
  2. Other lovely kitchen stuff. Know they need a fruit bowl? Get a lovely one. The Emile Henry bowl is good - veg in the bottom, fruit on the top
  3. Magazine subscription - Private Eye, Grazia. Whatever they like
  4. Anything perishable - we all have enough shit. Give something that disappears after a while
  5. Cinema membership - Curzon, Everyman, Picturehouse. We all have enough shit and people don't go to the cinema enough
  6. Restaurant vouchers - see above re we all have enough shit
  7. You know, I'd take a voucher for a coffee shop. Takeaway coffee is so expensive now!
  8. Socks - it's a classic for a reason. Cashmere
  9. Candles - people say they hate giving/receiving candles. You just aren't spending enough. Buy fancy. Little luxuries don't come more lux than literally burning money
10. A print/poster from their favourite film framed 11. A copy of Private Eye from the day they were born, framed. Sadly mine had Prince Andrew on it :( 12. A really good knife - for someone who likes cooking, obvs. Maybe something random to add to their set - like the Global tomato knife 13. Lisa Eldridge lipstick and matching liner. Love her and her stuff is great 15. Art Fund/Tate membership

Stocking fillers/presents under £10

  1. The milk chocolate honeycomb from Fortnum & Mason
  2. Chocolate generally - needs to be one fancy thing or a really cheap selection box. Adults love a selection box too. NO LINDT
  3. Cheese. Any
  4. Q&A a day five year journal
  5. Roger & Gallet shower gel
  6. The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read
  7. Hotel Chocolat black forest hot chocolate (ok it's about 13 quid)
  8. Rukmini Iyer roasting tin recipe book. Don't know anyone who doesn't love these
  9. The Book of Form and Emptiness - it's a novel
10. Brownies - made by you 11. Nigella Lawson bar nuts - make in bulk, portion off in little bags. DELICIOUS. Have changed this one to add lemongrass and other shit 12. Silk hair ties 13. Skull teaspoons 14. Spacemasks X2 (Amazon sell singles) 15. Bamboo lids for Gu pudding pots (yes really) 16. Stainless steel tube squeezer - for toothpaste, hand cream, tomato puree. People love this shit 17. A card/board game that people will want to play on Christmas day (shit present if languishes in cupboard)

Another top tip - Pay the Selfridges ten quid a year unlimited delivery thing. Send lots of presents on nominated/next day delivery for zero pounds after that initial tenner!! They sell lots of shit and it always turns up looking relatively nice especially if you're posting direct

Side note - NO NOVELTY SHIT. No novelty mugs. No poo bingo. No bullshit buttons. No grow your own hairy beaver. Awful. Straight in the bin. So wasteful

I loved your list.
Have a great Christmas

Mirrormeback · 09/12/2023 05:30

What wrong with Lindt?

It's lovely Swiss chocolate

WelshMoth · 09/12/2023 05:35

heartsinvisiblefury · 08/12/2023 18:49

Blimey you're a bit of a know it all when it comes to what you think people want OP. I personally think your list sounds shit.

🤦‍♀️

@Mydogisscratching I think I've missed the supply of Mint chocolate oranges - I was looking in Tesco today and couldn't find any 🙁
I didn't mean to sound rude with my comment. Apologies if you took it that way.
But it is very.... random 🤣
I'm getting Lego as my present.

WH Smith’s a Kings Cross had loads yesterday, probably readily available at their other branches, especially those in the stations.

Loub55 · 09/12/2023 05:43

I didn't realise lids for the Gu pots was a thing, I have to get some now!

Thanks for that, we have hundreds of the bloody things 😂

Dabdab1 · 09/12/2023 05:48

I love this list ! Getting lots of ideas I wouldn’t have considered. Thank you !

HuntingoftheSnark · 09/12/2023 05:52

I like your list too and have just bought the Ruth Ozeki book, thank you!

Theoldwoman · 09/12/2023 06:07

Nothing on that list appeals to me.

Needmorelego · 09/12/2023 06:13

@TerfTalking ooh going through Victoria and then Marylebone today so I can look.
Thanks 🙂

ghislaine · 09/12/2023 10:12

I’m quite surprised by some of the grinch-like responses to this thread. It’s clearly not a one-list-suits-all situation. Some gifts will be appropriate for some people, some not. I’m sure we all have some idea of whom we’re buying for and can use our judgement accordingly.

EverySporkIsSacred · 09/12/2023 10:39

@ghislaine right?
I like this list - has a load of options that I think my siblings might like but I wouldn't have thought of.

Disagree about Lindt chocolate though, I love the milk chocolate ones. I find if chocolate is too expensive I feel so guilty eating that I don't enjoy it no matter how amazing it tastes.

pizzaHeart · 13/12/2023 07:11

Oh no, please nothing from this list! The only thing which might work for me is item N4 “anything perishable” but no selection boxes, chocolate oranges and in particular nothing mint. I would rather have Lindt chocolates.

What's wrong with Lindt?

When my puppy ate a Lindt ball the vet looked it up and said don't worry as it didn't meet the threshold for being chocolate as the cocoa content was so low!

Plus contains palm oil.

Whataretheodds · 13/12/2023 09:50

I really hope noone buying for me reads this list. In case they do:

I do not want an Anna and Nina mug. I want exactly the mug I'm searching for an NO OTHERS.

I do not want an Emile Henry fruit bowl. I have been bought 3 fruit bowls in my life. I can only use one, and I already have it.

I will happily accept cashmere socks or Hotel Chocolat.

Otherwise please don't buy me anything from this list! Thank you.

MrsMarzetti · 13/12/2023 10:02

Membership for the Tate ? No use as my nearest one is Hundreds of miles away. Buy me Lindt chocolate anytime.

givemushypeasachance · 13/12/2023 12:05

I didn't know purpose-done lids for Gu pots were a thing, just the cheapo pringles lids can be used hack. Ordered some for my friends as they have loads and would probably find that useful for keeping small quantities of snacks for the kids and such in.

DuvetCovers · 14/12/2023 09:12

Well, I like the list and would appreciate pretty much everything on it.

I also really enjoy reading present lists and often find inspiration from them. The idea is not that everything is suitable for everyone only that some people might get a bit of inspiration for some recipients. OP is not saying eg buy your friends a Tate membership when they don't live near the Tate 😂

To amend that slightly- I would not like a floral mug with "Cum Dumpster" written on the side. I am far too earnest these days for a post-modern mug.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 14/12/2023 09:22

Hi OP. Your list is excellent! Agree with no lindt, especially for me!

And surely it's about being flexible with the theme. So I don't want cashmere socks as they make my chillblains burn as I've got Reynauds. BUT I wouldn't say no to a cashmere scarf or beanie hat.

I don't like shower gel, but I adore a citrus smelling hard soap.

Flex the ideas.

I'd add - find your nearest market town with a really posh gift shop. I mean the kind of shop that isn't faux posh, with a few candles but really posh.

And buy glassware or gorgeous candle sticks or fabulous cooking implements.

We have one near us and I can find something for everyone in there. Especially me.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 14/12/2023 09:24

Also I LOVE the gu pot lids!

DrivingonIce · 14/12/2023 09:30

Never mind the purpose-made Gu lids, I now have the perfect excuse to buy more Pringles!

housethatbuiltme · 14/12/2023 09:58

I'm honestly a little baffled by people saying 'great list, I got lots of great ideas I never thought of for x, y and z'.

Did those posters really 'never think of' of Mugs, Socks, Chocolates, Book, Toiletries and Vouchers without OP putting it on a sweary list where they unnecessarily insulted brands they don't like and contradicted themselves?

The list is the same bare basics generic gift list for secret Santa at best just written in the 'know it all' way of an angst ridden young teen.

I saw this on Instagram the other day and rushed home to tell DH Grin

Curse all of you who have reminded me that pistachio lindt balls exist in Sainsbury's.... going to have to make a special trip now!

justchristmas · 14/12/2023 12:13

No to mugs, especially novelty ones. No to chocolate or candles. Yes to cashmere socks and cinema tickets (that has been my go to present for birthdays this year).

I also love to give Waterstones vouchers. Or a nice bubble bath/shower gel. Lush bath bombs are pretty awesome for bath lovers.
