Best games for a group of 10+ people on Christmas Day

We're hosting and I want to organise some games, but I'm not sure what to plan.

We'll be a group of around 10/12 people, young adults to 70+ but no children.

Maybe something in teams?

Let me know anything you play that always works to bring people together and make a festive fun atmosphere.
( So not monopoly!!)

Christmas quiz? You could ask each person to bring a round of 10 questions (and sit out of their team for their round)

Pictionary - the board gane or you can make it up yourself with a list of things to draw - split into 2 teams and give 1player from each team the first item to draw. As soon as team guess right answer the guesser comes to you for next item on the list. Best played in 2 rooms so teams can't hear each other

Jackbox is funny - it's an online games platform which you play with mobile phones. Someone needs to have bought the game though

I love a quiz!
But I don't know some of the guests very well so don't want to ask them.

"Who's in the bag"

You don't need to buy it, can make it yourself with a bag/bowl. Everyone writes a few names (each on a different strip of paper, folds and puts in the bag).

2 teams.
One person from Team 1 has a minute to get their team to guess as many names as possible. Then team 2 gets a minute with the rest of the bag, repeat until none left.

Then team 2 gets a minute to guess as many as possible using only 1 word to describe the person. Then team 1's turn and repeat until none left.

The 3rd round is as above but have to mime the person.

I did this in the summer for our holiday and it was great.
Was thinking of something with a bit more energy though for a larger group.

I love it and actually prefer it when you come up with the names yourself. It doesn't matter if everyone doesn't know every name if you make sure the teams are quite well mixed they will learn them by the end!

What about a murder mystery evening, you can get free templates online with characters and a story for the narrator to read along as you try to figure out who dunnit! My older relatives absolutely loved it last year, it was good low impact fun that made everyone laugh and took up a good few hours to get through

A really silly game but goes down well with every group I've played it with. Get each person to bring 1 or 2 'prizes'. Can be almost anything - loo roll, chocolates, handmade decoration, random item from aisle of wonder in Aldi, book from a charity shop... Just say costing no more than say £2. Items mix of wrapped and not. You need 2 packs of cards, deal out one pack as equally as you can to everyone present. Dealer shuffles other pack and starts turning cards over. Whoever has first card turned over in their hand takes a prize from the middle, play continues with whoever has the turned over card claiming a prize. Once the prize pot has run out you can steal from other players. You can add a rule so once you have claimed your last card if you only have one prize it can no longer be stolen from you, or say that prizes can only be stolen a maximum of x number of times. Sounds silly, but it is amazing how much competition there can be over a pair of washing up gloves or a Mars Bar!

Or Prediction Whist, if a few people don't mind pairing up (max 7).

I love this but I'm not sure I understand... what if you run out of cards before the prizes are given out?

I don't know what prediction whist is I'll look it up!

We like:
Herd Mentality
Taboo (divide into 2 teams then everyone is mostly playing all the time)
Balderdash (maybe takes a bit long if there are 10 people)
Werewolves (a card game a bit like the TV show traitors, if you saw that)
Tell Me (our version is from about 1957, might not exist any more!)

My favourite “lively” party game is the chocolate bar game - instructions below (although not sure how well this would work with a bunch of senior citizens that you don’t know very well…):You will need:A wrapped bar of chocolate A plate A knife and fork Some dressing-up items (at least a hat, scarf and gloves) DiceHow to play:Put the bar of chocolate on the plate with the knives and forks nearby and sit around it in a circle. Throw the pile of dressing up clothes into the circle. Give one person the dice.People take it in turns to roll the dice on the floor in front of them, passing them around the circle to their left. If a person rolls a six, they leap into the center of the circle, put on the dressing up clothes, and start to unwrap, then eat, the bar of chocolate - but only using the knife and fork. That person keeps going until another person rolls a double, at which point they co-operate in handing over the dressing up clothes so that the next person gets a turn.Keep going until the chocolate is all gone.
