We're not a jigsaw-y family, but last Xmas really enjoyed having one lying around for everyone to pick away at.
Show me your favourite ones!
I'm on the hunt for one to please a family of adults

I always look out for a good charity shop jigsaw for us to do in the hibernation time between Boxing Day and New Year. My favourite jigsaw genre is a 'detailed photo of a heap of stuff', and this is the absolute banger I've picked up this year.

Anothee Wentworth fan here. I treated myself to their advent calendar this year, and am enjoying a small treat everyday.

I tend to normally get their 250 piece size as it fits on my laptray nicely. I pick them up either in their sales or from eBay and then resell the ones I dont want to redo.

I love all the wentworth puzzles, this might be my favourite. https://www.wentworthpuzzles.com/wooden-jigsaw-puzzles/highland-cattle

I came to suggest Wentworth puzzles, the PP beat me to it. They are beautifully made and really quirky.

Jiffner86 · 04/12/2023 06:40

Avoid Wasjig? Ones, very confusing as the picture on the box isn't what you are trying to piece together, for example it was a pub scene in the 80's and what I had to piece together was the pub but now in modern times and it had been turned into a night club lol unless that sounds like fun to you, I need to know what I'm looking at 😆

Dee00 · 04/12/2023 08:21

I have got the square 400 piece one with the house in the middle, which is where we live. It was lovely as we had just moved in.

You can also get one that is where we met and has a heart piece instead of a house. They are really lovely.

sorry Rosebud21 I was meant to link you to that message.

Mediocrates · 06/12/2023 15:04

We love a Wasgij in our house - they come with a clue rather than a picture of the image on the jigsaw. It makes it trickier and takes us longer to complete, which is fun

Seaweed42 · 06/12/2023 17:09

The Wasgiji annoy me because they are so Benny Hill, or Carry On.
So bloody sexist.

Oh er where's me trousers, look at the arse on her lads well I say, and the women have their knockers hanging out.

Good enough if you can see past that I guess.

AnotherEmma · 06/12/2023 17:24

Yeah I googled Wasjig (because of this thread) and didn't like the style, myself.

Loved my Bridgerton puzzle but that didn't have any naked boobs in it unlike the TV show Grin

i got a photo of waterfall in the woods/favourite summer walk made into a 1000 piece jisaw. Went down well and was quality

@Mojolostforever we've got that impossible one. Its only 168 pieces but so vicious.

@Just2MoreSeasons I would also recommend Wentworth ones with whimsy pieces for the kids. Mine love doing them then taking all the whimsy pieces out again.

I also recommend Wentworth puzzles. They do some lovely festive ones in 40 pieces which are great for kids who haven't really done jigsaws much. They're not too challenging but fun to do, won't take so long the kids lose patience and as a bonus, the boxes are small enough to be a great stocking filler.

MannyTeddy · 07/12/2023 00:41

Wentworth wooden puzzles.com are very interesting looking as they have different shapes cut out such as Christmas trees or presents. They also have cracker ones which are cheaper. 🥰

SiobhanSharpe · 07/12/2023 02:31

DH received this as a gift one Christmas a few years ago very seasonal and only 100 pieces but it took him two or three days to complete no edges! Fiendish.

QUESTION FOR YOU ALL....

We are a one-jigsaw-at-Christmas family - and it lies out for a couple of weeks while 2-3 of us pore over it....

I think it would be a good idea to buy a jigsaw tray or table... ideally one for a 1000 piece jigsaw with space for sorting pieces, and one that can even be put away under the sofa when we want to....

At the moment, we bring in a small table from the garden and shuffle things around on trays!! Not the easiest... especially when we want to use that table for feeding larger family groups.

Although I love the ingenious idea of covering the puzzle with a tablecloth (which we too have done in the past), I think I'm ready to move to the next stage and give our jigsaw additional respect

I thought it would cost me £30 or so but I see that prices go up to £100 and above!! heavens... but hearing people don't rate the rolls, I think we should look at something more robust... Ideal budget £30-55, but could go up to £70n or so (I guess, yes Im hesitating, that sounds like a lot but if it increases puzzling pleasure then it is worth it....)

I’m one who didn’t like my roll up puzzle mat, but I bought this earlier this year and I love it. It’s not wooden so doesn’t have pull out trays, but it does have two mats to sort pieces on. Fits neatly under the sofa, though I wouldn’t recommend storing it standing if you have lots of loose pieces, as the pieces do seem to fall the bottom that way. Not a problem for me in the way I use it though, as my preference is flat under the sofa. I have no experience of wooden puzzle boards though if that’s your preference.

loveyouradvice · 09/12/2023 21:01

Thanks ... suspect I am going wooden, but this is really helpful xx

GoodOldEmmaNess · 09/12/2023 21:05

Anything from Wentowrth Puzzles. There are laegues lovelier than any other jigsaw I have done. I recently enjoyed this one of theirs:

Liberty jigsaws are also gorgeous, wooden with whimsy pieces, and quite challenging.

faffadoodledo · 28/12/2023 15:30

Just to report back - these two puzzles were excellent. Particularly love the box for the Pratchett one.
Next puzzle up - the Sistine Chapel!

If you are doing a Sistine Chapel puzzle, try not to weep loudly and uncontrollably upon completion!!

faffadoodledo · 29/12/2023 20:42

Don't worry @Whydowomendothistothemselves I'm resisting the MN urge!

The Wentworth wooden ones are just beautiful, with their whimsy pieces. They have a great Xmas selection https://www.wentworthpuzzles.com/christmas-jigsaw-puzzles

I love the Wentworth ones But they have gone very expensive. Ravensburger is my favourite but Gibson's have had some good ones lately like the Sherlock Holmes and Jane Austen. Never tried an Elena Essex one. Must treat myself.

MonkeyTennis34 · 07/04/2024 18:20

I'm quite new to puzzling but I love Aimee Stewart's (not the singer)vintage style puzzles.

I've done the Christmas one and will be getting it out again this Yuletide.

Almost completed her Summer Flowers one.

There are some beautiful jigsaws out there, as well as some very tacky ones!
