We're not a jigsaw-y family, but last Xmas really enjoyed having one lying around for everyone to pick away at.
Show me your favourite ones!
I'm on the hunt for one to please a family of adults

You can get one on Etsy where you put in your address and postcode and your house is at the centre of a google map of your area. We all enjoyed that and friends who came over wanted to find and put in their street, even the sulky teenagers got involved.

I really enjoy doing wasgij too. I've got a few jigsaws not done previous years, so I'll do those first. Ones ravensburg & ones wasgij

inapickle2300 · 02/12/2023 22:02

Another vote for wasgij, they are good fun.

MyDogSmellsTerrible · 02/12/2023 22:06

I've got quite a few in a range - can't remember the name. I have dickens, Shakespeare, Sherlock Holmes, Jane eyre and I think a Tudor one. They're great, lots of characters and buildings so not too hard to do.

Lawrence King - The World Of... just googled it. They're really good fun

Grimmz · 02/12/2023 22:07

We really enjoyed this one - it's part of the "My Haven" series produced by Ravensburger. This one is called "The Beach Hut" and it's based on really lovely illustration from a British artist. Challenging and fun! The others in the series are good too.

I love these too. Just finished the Bridgerton one!

what do you class as a great jigsaw? I like ones that are very hard.

This is a great jigsaw because you don't get the picture on the box, it's difficult as lots of areas of similar colouring plus for added interest in comes with murder mystery mini-booklet/story and clues in the picture once you've done the jigsaw to solve it
Foul Play & Cabernet

This one is similar - but the picture once completed is visually nicer than the foul play one

Murder On The Titanic Mystery puzzle - The Family Puzzle Shop

Both are available on Amazon as well.

I am doing this one right now! It is fabulous.

I went through a phase of doing continents, a map of the world and map of US states just because I wanted to improve my geography. They were good fun.

AyrshireTryer · 02/12/2023 22:38

Charity shops have many.
There is the slight risk not all the pieces are there, but they are generally £4.00

SeatonCarew · 02/12/2023 22:41

I love the Gibson's retro ones, and do appropriate ones for the time of year. I love the Christmas themed ones. There are always plenty on eBay.

BunnyBunnyJabberJabber · 02/12/2023 22:41

Any of the ones by Big Potato are great..a 1000 piece puzzle plus quiz.
Brilliant family fun for movie buffs, music fans and book lovers.

The Klimt ones are really difficult. If you can get them, New Yorker puzzles are very good, irregular pieces. I love a jigsaw and have done thousands, they are my go to in stressful times! Nothing under 1,000 pieces and the harder the better. But make sure the quality is good: nothing as frustrating as a puzzle where you can’t really tell of a piece is in properly!

loveyouradvice · 02/12/2023 23:04

My all time favourite... Ailsa Black, no Ball Games... she's a Scottish artist and its just so beautiful, and appropriately challenging but not too much for friends and family over Christmas... its a Ravensburger one so good quality... Im sad she is not doing more, Id buy them....

And i do NOT recommend 101 dalmatian's which we tried one lockdown christmas... as you can imagine, gave up as all too similar!!!

RudsyFarmer · 02/12/2023 23:06

Going to look for a family jigsaw to tomorrow with a rolling mat due to space constraints.

ComfyBoobs · 02/12/2023 23:13

Agree with @toastofthetown about Elena Essex. Just about to do her stamp collection one but really enjoyed her ocean scene earlier in the summer. Absolutely gorgeous and great quality.

I love jigsaws. Mine are mostly maps or dinosaur themed. I like Ravensburger or Eurographics.

I have tons of world/continent/country map jigsaws but for something harder, this Map of the Universe one is fab:
Ravensburger Map of the Universe 1500 Piece https://amzn.eu/d/cFUo2MG

And I love this series of dinosaur ones but they might be a bit niche 😄 There's Triassic/Jurassic/Cretaceous:
EuroGraphics https://amzn.eu/d/bwRSuOq

Another favourite:
Tree of Life

RepetitiveMotion · 02/12/2023 23:37

We like the Ridleys ones - just bought the donut one and have had the cats one for many years.

We really liked the London AZ map one. But we live in London so enjoyed that knowledge aspect of it.
Any map one is good.
There is a colour gradient one which was fun.
we love a jigsaw!

We loved that too. All the white took ages to do!

I love Elena Essex puzzles. The illustration style and gradient designs in so many of her puzzles really appeal to me. She has two Christmas/Wintery themed ones - Winter Spirit and Christmas Cornucopia.

They're lovely!

Saisong · 03/12/2023 00:05

The Wentworth wooden ones are just beautiful, with their whimsy pieces. They have a great Xmas selection https://www.wentworthpuzzles.com/christmas-jigsaw-puzzles

Ooh I think I'm going to put that one on my Christmas list!
