What nice Christmassy things have you done today?

I thought it would be nice to have a thread that is just about nice christmassy things that people have done. Ideally there will be no arguments about the commercialisation of Christmas, December 1st boxes, Christmas Eve boxes, cost of living crisis etc. There are umpteen other threads about that.

I REALLY couldn't be bothered today. I'm ill and coughing up a lung. But I rallied for an hour and convinced DH to put the outside lights up while the DC (4 and 21 months) were in nursery. I also got all the Christmas stuff out of the loft and put a christmas duvet, christmas book and soft toy on each of their beds (all from previous years but they're too little to remember).

Finally, I put the advent calendars on the fireplace. Just chocolate ones.

It was so worth it to see their little faces. Oh to be 4 years old at Christmas again!

Has anyone else had a lovely 1st December?

Got the Christmas tree out of the loft

Peanutbutterismyjam · 01/12/2023 19:43

Kids had chocolates from their wooden advent calendars, plus the ones my parents bought them.
I've also started wrapping presents. It's going to be a busy month so wanted to get ahead.

Withsleighbellson · 01/12/2023 19:44

Got the Christmas stuff out the garage. Put heart Christmas on the car radio. That's about it really.

pilates · 01/12/2023 19:46

@Footprintsinthesand that sounds nice. Yours are at a lovely age - enjoy every minute.

Jungfraujoch · 01/12/2023 19:46

I’ve got Covid so not going anywhere but just slowly pottering - put up the tree - lights on but will decorate tomorrow. Nativity scene out and a couple of other xmassy bits.

pilates · 01/12/2023 19:47

Oh and both trees are up. Outside lights tomorrow.

Clevs · 01/12/2023 19:49

Went to the school Christmas fair.

Multipleexclamationmarks · 01/12/2023 19:50

We put the Christmas tree up and decorated the classroom. I work in reception.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 01/12/2023 19:51

I went to bed with a headache last night so totally forgot about the elf making his big entrance this morning! So I had to do that while they were all at school and try and make it look like he actually arrived last night but they missed it 😆

Also wrapped some secret Santa presents for a meet-up with family this weekend. Got out the fabric pocket advent calendar that comes out every year and hung it up. And opened door number one of the picture-only advent calendar I bought myself - the first advent calendar I've had in about 25 years!

Sandiegodreaming · 01/12/2023 19:54

Listened to Christmas tunes and had a mince pie

SprinkleOfSunak · 01/12/2023 19:56

My Girls opened the first door of their Advent calendars.

It wasn’t anything I did, but it snowed today, and it felt immediately Christmassy!

After work I went and picked up lots of click and collect orders (Christmas presents), and went in search of scented candles and reed diffusers, and went and bought mince pies and a poinsettia in Marks and Spencer.

When I arrived home, my Girls and I listened to Christmas music, and I drank a sherry and ate rum truffles while cooking the dinner.

Footprintsinthesand · 01/12/2023 19:58

@CoffeeChocolateWine I haven't done elf on the shelf for precisely that reason! I love the idea of it but I just know I would forget.

Very excited about all this talk of christmas trees. Planning to put ours up over the weekend. DH isn't working for once so we can all do it together (that's the plan anyway. Might not be how it works in real life with 2 preschoolers!)

Wreath went on the door and our tree is up to let the branches drop a bit before decorating tomorrow!

IReallyMissPrince · 01/12/2023 20:03

Opened my first Advent Calendar window.
I’m now watching the new Christmas episodes of Virgin River in bed (wearing my new fleecy PJs).

AlltheFs · 01/12/2023 20:08

I’m really ill so it’s not been great but

  • My DD (4) was so excited for her calendar (it’s the refillable sort and I put a lot of thought in to what she has).
  • They had the Xmas tree lights switch on in the village and the kids sang carols. I managed to drag my sorry self there so DD could see it as it’s only a few metres from our house.
  • The annual work whatsapp group challenge started. You have to post a specific Xmas related photo every day. Entirely optional but our team loves it.

Christmas jumper and dinner day at the place I work at which was lovely.

Plus I've just got my festive nails (very much not Mumsnet approved as they are long, tacky, sparkly BIAB gel jobs 😂)

We're (Me and DS (6)) are sat watching Christmas films in my front room with the tree up and it's all warm and cosy.

When the food shop arrives later I'm going to make our family version of rocky road, and maybe some delicious puppy chow.

We're having a north pole breakfast tomorrow (literally just ready made pancakes with chopped up strawberry and banana.) With more Christmas films!

Sunday will be church (first Sunday in advent) and then an outdoor carol concert in the evening.

Choccyp1g · 01/12/2023 20:45

I got the Christmas mugs out.
I feel smug every year at my brilliant system: after a few years of Xmas mugs crowding the cupboard for six weeks, I now put an equal number of the non Xmas mugs back into the Xmas mug box and put it away till 12th night.

scrivette · 01/12/2023 20:47

Finished decorating the tree and met friends in London for our annual Christmas get together and had a meal from the Christmas Menu.

FlutteryButterfly · 01/12/2023 20:49

Got the Christmas tree out of the loft

Same @Lampzade , but not up! I had all intentions of doing so but I got distracted erm at the pub 😳☺️😂

Pinkpinkpink15 · 01/12/2023 20:55

Oh you're all putting me to shame!!

though my partial excuses are that I live alone, everything is in the loft & I had intended to get it down today, but a low energy day & it's quite a difficult task as I've not much use of one arm. I'm going to locate the mulled wine & get some if that on and get out my picture advent calendar & see if there are any local Christmas Markets on fairly locally tomorrow.

I was much more focussed on it being FRIDAY (thank fuck) than Dec1 today really!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/12/2023 20:55

Today : ( I don't work on a Friday)

I used nice Molton Brown showergel and put on a Fairisle jumper
Gave my DS and DD (adults) their Dec 1st Boxes (I love them they aren't tat or overkill)
Cooked a nice vegetarian brunch
Watched "Spirited" (Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell film) made DS watch too (he doesn't do any festive days out with us) . He really likes RR so I think he secret;y enjoyed it !
Got the Christmas cushions and oilcloth table cover out of the attic , DH will get the towels tomorrow . Christmas loo roll is out . And Christmas straws .

Not doing any decorations yet except the door wreath as having some work done on the house next week.

ABBA Voyage tomorrow Xmas Grin

alliscalmish · 01/12/2023 21:12

Making Christmas cards with my DDs, Christmassy bedtime stories - and the Christmas Bath & Body Works shower gel out!

MyDogSmellsTerrible · 01/12/2023 21:19

Met an old school friend for lunch and played Christmas songs on the way there and back. Put the decorations up, tree tomorrow 🎄

MrsWhites · 01/12/2023 21:31

I put our main tree up - took me all day because my asthma is playing up so I felt pretty exhausted.

Hoping to feel better tomorrow to tackle our dining room tree and other bits to go around the house.
