What would you leave out of your Christmas dinner?

I was debating this with a friend last night... If you had to leave out one element from your Christmas dinner, what would it be?

Choices are: Turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, brussels sprouts or gravy.

I love sprouts, so I'd get rid of the stuffing.

@lartghy421 true. When I think of Turkey I think of those big Iceland joints. M&S do a small Turkey in the silver trays I always buys those to do with another meat.

From the list -stuffing .
Only DS and the cats are non-vegetarian so they have chicken not turkey ,
I like sprouts if they're cooked properly /

Roast potatoes are compulsary , surely Xmas Grin

I would leave out Christmas Dinner

Mrsjayy · 02/12/2023 10:05

I already leave out parsnips we don't like them. I would also leave out carrots and add more sprouts !

Potatoes and gravy, we never bother with either. Why you'd want to make all your food wet confuses me. Confused

Mrsjayy · 02/12/2023 12:01

oh I love gravy !

sixteenfurryfeet · 02/12/2023 12:03

Bread sauce. Not that we ever have it anyway.

Mrsjayy · 02/12/2023 12:06

we don't seem to be into bread sauce in Scotland I've only had it in English carvery/pub lunches, I'm not keen.

Whaaaaaat??!!! No roast potatoes and gravy? Unbelievable. That's almost as bad as having tomato ketchup on it.

The best mouthful of Christmas dinner is a mixture of sprouts, roast potato, bread sauce, gravy and cranberry sauce. Thats Christmas right there.

The first time I encountered bread sauce was in Edinburgh and it was Food Of The Gods .

I do the cloves in the onion (cut in quarters) bayleafs, peppercorns then let it cook till the onion is soft , leave it to ferment at least 24 hours in the fridge .
Take the cloves out and liquidise the onion+ milk then warm through Add the breadcrumbs as usual and nutmeg (butter if you must <yuk> )
Heaven .

When you see a plate with a beautiful Christmas Dinner on it , bread sauce looks a but dodgy doesn't it . I steered away for years till I found out how nice it is ,

Scruffington · 02/12/2023 13:51

I never have turkey. Find it bland and boring.

Never have pigs in blankets either. I just cook a proper ham.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/12/2023 14:12

Gravy!

WhatYouWearing · 02/12/2023 14:58

@70isaLimitNotaTarget gravy AND ketchup? That's next level. This thread should come with a trigger warning Shock

Yirk · 02/12/2023 15:09

Turkey definitely it's bland .
