What would you leave out of your Christmas dinner?

I was debating this with a friend last night... If you had to leave out one element from your Christmas dinner, what would it be?

Choices are: Turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, brussels sprouts or gravy.

I love sprouts, so I'd get rid of the stuffing.

Ok, who are the 3% godless heathens who've voted out roast potatoes?

I'd get rid of turkey, we never have it anyway, it's so mid. We're doing beef and lamb this year.

idontlikealdi · 01/12/2023 13:18

Turkey.

I did some amazing Brussels sprouts for a thanksgiving dinner last weekend - sprouts, sweet potato, bacon lardons, dunns seasoning roasted for 45 minutes.

Plain boiled sprouts are not my thing.

We're having Mexican this year with a side of roast potatoes and gravy.

I'd ditch the turkey. I sometimes make full size sausages in bacon as the main meat for a roast dinner 😋

Pigs in blankets are so overrated!

😆 I've got 8 people coming for Christmas Dinner. Will probably end up cooking 80 of the bloody things.

Most of them won't make it onto the plates.

NotAlabama · 01/12/2023 14:27

Don't like nasty greasy pigs in blankets - I cook hundreds of cocktail sausages instead. And I make at least 4 types of stuffing.

housethatbuiltme · 01/12/2023 14:29

Gravy.

I don't eat it myself but the other do, it makes me feel a bit sick (smelly gloopy brown slop) and it gets EVERYWHERE.

Parts inevitably end up getting washed down the drain and then the sink utterly stinks anytime you drain hot water... I HATE it.

princefamilypaper · 01/12/2023 14:29

Pigs in blanket. Hate them

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 01/12/2023 14:31

Turkey. And it doesn’t matter how you cook it; I don’t give a monkeys if you brine it, if it’s a Bronze whatever, if it had a name and you hand fed it in your garden. It is just so unexciting, and then the soup or leftovers smell revolting.

SutWytTi · 01/12/2023 14:37

All the meat.

I agree - horrible stuff! I'd still rather get rid of the stuffing though 😆

Parsnips. My partner loves them, I can't stand them.

WhatNoUsername · 01/12/2023 17:20

Tbh I'd be gutted to lose any of these but if it was life or death (😂😂) I'd say sprouts. Not that I don't like them but you obviously could pick turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing or roast potatoes (or it wouldn't be a Christmas dinner, You can't pick gravy or the whole dinner would be dry and inedible. So sprouts is the only one left.

I looooove sprouts though so that's a tough decision! We fry ours in bacon! Delish!

wendywoopywoo222 · 01/12/2023 17:25

Gravy.

Ruins a perfectly good meal.

Barrythetimesprout · 01/12/2023 12:17

Sprouts. The vegetable of Satan.

This^Always leave them out!

PurBal · 01/12/2023 17:27

Easy. Gravy. Don’t like it. Unless it’s a casserole I don’t like everything tasting the same.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 01/12/2023 17:28

For all your sprout haters, Jamie's sprouts are excellent.

Any vegetable you either have to cover in cheese or Worcestershire sauce to make edible is a waste of space!

Lily0719 · 01/12/2023 17:29

Stuffing!

Topseyt123 · 01/12/2023 17:31

As a vegetarian I would leave out the meat and add in a nut roast.

Cranberry sauce should be on that list. I hate the stuff. It is like putting jam on your savoury course. I've always thought it woulc go better on toast for breakfast than with dinner.

Hbh17 · 01/12/2023 17:32

Turkey, obviously. But, to be fair, I never cook OR eat traditional "Christmas dinner".

Lopil · 01/12/2023 17:36

Turkey, I’m a huge sides fan and I love sprout dishes, I normally do Gennaro Contaldo’s sprout gratin with lots of the left over cheese from Christmas Eve.

StarlightLime · 01/12/2023 18:09

Pigs in blankets. Hate them.

caringcarer · 01/12/2023 18:12

I hate sprouts, especially the smell. I only cook them once a year because DH loves them.

MrsWhites · 01/12/2023 18:14

I wouldn’t attend any Christmas dinner where any of these items were missed off! I refuse to vote!!

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 01/12/2023 18:14

I always leave the blankets out and just have pigs. Hate pigs in blankets. We just have nice chipolata sausages.
