I'm doing similar tonight, but one idea I had was to tie a bit of string from the light to the Christmas tree to make it look like they're zip lining

Ginny26 · 30/11/2023 22:00

Kids will lose their mind when they see Mr Grinch 😂

I forgot to get elf out! 😂
Following and will share ideas if I remember, I'm useless at these things, will be calling my mum 😅

LaChatte · 30/11/2023 22:08

I'm following for ideas as I'm going to it in my classroom (I teach year 9 😂).

Beamur · 30/11/2023 22:10

Snow Angels with sugar/flour
Pinterest literally has hundreds of ideas

Jellycattoys · 30/11/2023 22:12

A mum YouTuber Emily Norris just did a video on 100 elf on the shelf ideas. They are brilliant, worth a watch.

Mindovermatter247 · 30/11/2023 22:54

Our dc are older so they like the concept of naughty elves, Ours have come riding in on a Lindt reindeer, with a note saying we are back. Tomorrow they get up to the naughty stuff 😂

4preciouskidsand2angels · 30/11/2023 23:30

@Ginny26 love this ❤️brilliant I'm on the 9th year of doing it and we have new elves coming tomorrow to try and re spark the excitement as I will only have a couple more years of believers, started when my eldest was 6 he's 15 now 🙈still going for the youngest 2 who are 10 and 7 also have a 12 year old who had stopped believing too, your idea looks great xx

RainbowZebraWarrior · 30/11/2023 23:37

I'm in.

I can't do anything too messy as I'm Autistic and it would send me into a spin, but I'd love some new ideas.

For tonight, I've wrapped them up (we have two) and they have a label on them saying they have been sent from the North Pole. They are among some artificial trees and our many advent calendars. They've never arrived wrapped up before, so I'm a bit nervous that DD will be like "WTF?"

Have a root through your toys and identify which ones are useful. Barbie car, OG doll accessories, smaller doll clothes, etc. And have a root through craft supplies and pull out anything useful.

Divide the list into quick and easy/ medium/ time & effort. And set an alarm to remember to move him. The more quick and easy ideas the better.

My list is a bit specific but might have some useful ideas.

Easy

  1. Stick googly eyes over elf eyes
  2. Toilet paper on shower rail
  3. Hiding in the toilet rolls
  4. Riding the OG horse
  5. Sleeping in tissue box
  6. Snow angel using flour
  7. Kissing angel on Christmas tree
  8. Rolling down stairs inside a toilet roll
  9. Trapped under a glass
  10. Stuck inside toy candy catcher
  11. Driving in the Barbie Car
  12. Inside the cereal box

Medium difficulty

  1. Toothpaste snowman on bathroom mirror
  2. Dolls queuing up at ice cream van
  3. Snow flake toilet tissues
  4. Slumber party in socks
  5. Elf in boots
  6. zipline on string
  7. Feeding ducks in bath with bread
  8. Trying on doll clothes
  9. I ❤️U in candy canes
  10. Hanging from light, bulbs removed.

Forward planning required

  1. Playing elf twister
  2. Sledging down bannisters - cotton wool roll, elf sled
  3. Astronaut in tinfoil floating from solar system mobile in ds’s room
  4. Playing Xs and Os using gift bows
  5. Using gift bows to make a climbing wall up the side of the fireplace
  6. Turn Christmas tree into snowman with toilet paper
  7. Treasure hunt
  8. Elf inside a ball of wool
  9. Replace bathroom bulb with coloured light

Thanks all great ideas
another one my kids loved was their pants on the Xmas tree and a tower made of tins of beans/soup etc to get into the chocolates in the kitchen
I’ve done Barbie car taking Barbie’s for a drive too
I’m just waking them up to see their ones now. I’m quite excited I love this magic

Our elf will be bringing these at some point https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/312702401

I’ve done treasure hunts for chocolates
“I’ve hidden 6 Father Christmas around the room, can you find them”

As well as craft kits
”help, the North Pole elves have run out of slime / chocolate coins. Can you make some more?”

ginger bread houses to decorate (buy them pre constructed)

incredible shrinking machines have been great, so a wrapped box, with a pretend conveyor belt. And a small chocolate button (or any other biscuit / chocolate) one side and a giant one the other. kinder eggs is a great one for this, but the giant eggs are expensive.

stuck in a snow globe ( poundland cocktail fishbowl) with packing peanuts and £1 lights.

Christmas jumper day, wear a jumper as well with an extra £1 for school.

Christmas light bingo cards. You go out and play bingo finding all the Christmas lights on your card.

I know someone who does elf day, the elf brings elf slippers and hats. They eat party food (minature versions of normal food, pizzas, hamburgers etc) and watch elf. i never have the freezer space for this one!

Christmassy · 01/12/2023 07:53

Here's a few I can recall...

Put loo roll over living room/ around the xmas tree.

Leave donuts for breakfast

Put tinsel on school bags

write toothpaste message on mirror, or picture

Buy a packet of cheap cupcakes and leave them with a ‘bsking mess’ in the kitchen

Stick him in a bowl of popcorn and put it in an open microwave to look like he’s been doing that.

Stick him in the xmas tree and put some baubles on the floor, and maybe a chocolate in his hand/mouth

Put elf at front in a shoe and some toys in other shoes in a conga line. - maybe down the stairs.

Sat on the sofa with a book open, reading story to other toys gathered around .

Having a tea party picnic like thing in middle of room with other toys.

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 01/12/2023 09:11

I try to make them fit with whatever we are doing. So going tree shopping, elf will have a tree shop.

another good one was making their face appear on wooden ornaments (a flipped printed picture slathered in pva mix, left over night and the print transfers)

Great idea! Duly ordered, thank you.

Broodywuz · 01/12/2023 11:10

Place marking.
Our elf is handing from the curtain pole this morning with dh's tie.
2 year old dd can't really be trusted not to touch it so i think i'll need to keep to up high ones this year

MrBigsCat · 01/12/2023 11:13

I’m making a note in my phone with some of these!
keep them coming!

I’ll add in;
elves wrapped up in Xmas paper with tape and scissors left open and one of the other toys having wrapped them up

I did the elf in a Tupperware of water and froze him into a block of ice and kids had to chip him out next morning (then left him on radiator all day!!)

I need to be careful with chocolate and food related ones because of our dog!!

Rainbow skittles trick was a big hit with dd 4 last year, she still talks about it so not sure we'll get away with it this year again

PandyMoanyMum · 01/12/2023 11:25

Our elf has drawn faces on the fruit with a sharpie.
Low effort but DD found it funny.

We’ve never bought into the elf can’t be touched rule. He has to go back before bed, but that’s it. He’s been on holiday, been on days out.
my heart melted a bit when dds eyes lit up and at her smile this morning (she’s 14) there’s genuine affection for ours

Ginny26 · 01/12/2023 22:56

Low effort idea for the tired Mum's 😅

Oh really, damn it that would be so much easier, our elf came with a letter saying if you touch me I'll loose my magic.
