£20 gift for woman with expensive tastes

I need to buy a gift with approx £20 for a friend of my Mum's (who gives my Mum a lift to church each week).

The woman in question is always well dressed, wearing expensive accessories etc. She has a dog and gets involved in Am Dram but I don't know much about her.

Mum doesn't want to buy cake / biscuits as she knows her friend doesn't have a sweet tooth / eats like a bird.

What would you get?!?

As you can see from this thread it's very personal...

I like nice things and don't need much. I'm 38. I am always happy to receive decent hand cream (use it all the time and am still seeking a favourite); candles - I've never had a White Company one, but Neom are good. Jo Malone are overrated. Nice notebooks always appreciated - not fussed on brand. I love tea and am ordering myself some nice loose ones for Christmas.

Plants are nice. I don't have any. I like succulents.

I wouldn't want a bar of soap as I only use liquid, but Penhaligons liquid soap exceeds the budget I imagine. I also wouldn't want gloves, socks, scarves... Pillowcases are an odd choice for someone you don't know well.

Nandos is much hated on here - I'd be happy to go and have myself a mushroom and halloumi wrap though :)

I don't like Hotel Chocolat but do inflict it on others. I'd rather have Milka.

Who are these people who can buy leather gloves for £20?!!

Hand creams or scented candles are a bit downmarket, and the good ones will be way over budget.

A notebook may work, but for £20 it is going to be tricky.
Something food or drink based, but only from a high end deli (small box of macarons).

Or just offer to take her out for a coffee in the New Year at a good, independent coffee shop.

Thank you @RetinolStings I just ordered a box!

Oh I love these threads so much! It isn't a MN Christmas until we've all tried to out posh each other and passively aggressively attempt to impress a fictional random stranger

NovemberShiv · 27/11/2023 21:56

@OneFrenchEgg Is it me who is fictional or my mother's friend? What an odd comment to make when we are both clearly people.

This has been very helpful and I thank people for all the suggestions. It's definitely a "no food or drink" gift. I think she'll go with the Penhaligon soap - she likes the look of the red one which is £22.

Calm down, it's clearly a light hearted comment about the threads at this time of year.

NovemberShiv · 27/11/2023 21:58

What a sour note. I'll ignore that.

Thank you all suggestion makers. It has been much appreciated.
