£20 gift for woman with expensive tastes

I need to buy a gift with approx £20 for a friend of my Mum's (who gives my Mum a lift to church each week).

The woman in question is always well dressed, wearing expensive accessories etc. She has a dog and gets involved in Am Dram but I don't know much about her.

Mum doesn't want to buy cake / biscuits as she knows her friend doesn't have a sweet tooth / eats like a bird.

What would you get?!?

Personalised Christmas decoration? Her and her loved ones initial?

And a plant 😂 always a plant!

I wouldn't get anything personal eg soap or hand cream. I'd just get the nicest box of chocolates I could.

Op said she does not eat much, so why chocolates.

Thank you so much!

I've talked these over with my Mum and she's drawn to either the Penhaligon soap or The Christmas Appeal book mentioned with a small plant.

For those who asked by expensive taste I meant things of quality that last in a classic style sense. Silk pillowcases would be lovely but way out of budget. And she might well have them.

The Penhaligon soap would be a great choice. Such a subtle but very nice gift.

Space masks ….I think you can get a box of 5 for £15/16 ish

pizzaHeart · 26/11/2023 22:13

Do people understand that anything that smells (soap, hand cream, candles etc) is not only a very personal thing taste wise but also health wise? Lots of people have allergies. Candles are great for those who like them but a lot of people don’t.

Ponderingwindow · 26/11/2023 22:55

yes, gifting any kind of personal product or scented product unless specifically requested or you know the recipient well is risky. They are not the generic safe gifts so many people claim.

@lanesra01 i don’t understand Whats actually being sold. There’s just a picture of the box on the site, not what’s in them. What are they?

OccasionalHope · 26/11/2023 23:03

A book, Judi Dench has a new book about Shakespeare which might appeal to her acting side.

lanesra01 · 26/11/2023 23:07

They are self heated eye masks for relaxing , or if you have a migraine they are amazing …they have a scent to them too …all natural and just a lovely little bit of luxury …I don’t have shares in them I promise 😆@RetinolStings

The light up M&S shortbread tin?
As they go to church maybe something Christian? Christian bookshops have bookmarks with little prayers etc.. definitely a nice card with the nstivity or something on. Christmas tree ornament or festive decoration?
Failing that, a bottle of mulled wine and some nice sweets is a nice gift.
Don't overthink it- she will appreciate it!

RetinolStings · 26/11/2023 23:24

@lanesra01 odd way to run a business though if people don’t know what you are selling! They sound perfect for a friend of mine though so thanks 😊

Nando's voucher.

Everyone loves Nando's, surely.

I know soap/smelly things are very personal but of all the suggestions posted, I'd be delighted with the Penhaligon's soap. Would also like the Molton Brown minis or a poinsettia.

My suggestion is for a lovely, good quality Christmas bauble. I like the Newbridge silver ones.

Drwhattf · 27/11/2023 08:16

Ooh yes pigs you could get a really nicely designed bottle. That’s definitely a treat in my book.

A poinsettia and a good book.

Nando's voucher.

I don't particularly like it and the nearest one for me is 45 miles away ! We would never use it. We went once when we were picking up some furniture and we couldn't understand what all the fuss is about.
