Horse gift for 2.5yr old?

NotMeekNotObedient · 24/11/2023 12:23

DD2.5 has said Santa is bringing her a horse for Xmas (he's definitely not ever!).

What horse toy could I get her please?

Already have a rocking horse, schleich horse figures, toy farm with a little stable, duplo horses.

Would really appreciate some ideas please.

Another for crafty ponies, you can start with the pony and keep adding the accessories as the child gets older

SkaneTos · 24/11/2023 12:37

Perhaps arrange a trip to a farm/barn/stable to meet a real horse.

Horse riding lessons?

If not lessons have a look if anywhere near you does a toddler horse club. We have one nearby and DS 3 went in the summer. It was great he got to groom and feed the horse as well as go on a mini hack.

Failing that would she like to adopt a horse and get letters from him/her over the course of the year?

Hobby horse

idontlikealdi · 24/11/2023 12:43

Definitley crafty ponies! Start her off with a foal - the pony size is a bit unwieldy for little hands. Dts are 12 and I still catch them playing with them occasionally, they have got a stable full and ALL the accessories. It became a bit bit of a tradition to get a new one each year at HOYS.

Madcats · 24/11/2023 12:48

Furry hobby horses with stuffed heads used to be really popular at my (now teen's) toddler group.

I think I noticed some in The Works a few weeks ago.

Le mieux have the unicorn and wings for I think £25ish
Both my horse mad dds love these toys

londonmummy1966 · 24/11/2023 13:06

My DC loved their hobby horses at that age - if you do get one get one with little wheels at the bottom as it was easier for them to manage than one with jus a stick. Maybe also get her a riding hat for the dressing up box?

Mummytoalittleone · 24/11/2023 13:28

I've got my pony mad 2 year old a fureal pony that was hugely discounted . It's really interactive.

ChristmasBarginShop · 24/11/2023 13:42

I second getting her a hobby horse.

No. I urge you to get her one after I ruined DD's childhood by not buying her one. 🤣
(DD is now 19...)

She had a rocking horse- not the same!
She had my little pony- horesy and great fun, but not the same!
Duplo/ playmobil stable & riding school- you guessed it: not the same!!
I bought her a blow up unicorn hobby horse for her 16th to shut her up- NOT THE BLOODY SAME! 🙄

User1704 · 24/11/2023 14:36

Furreal pony? It’s massively reduced at the minute. My 3 year old also loves her hobby horse or maileg have a cute little horse on a lead

VincentofJazz · 24/11/2023 15:00

My horse mad daughter has played with her pony cycle for years (she is now 12) and still goes on it in the summer. You can often get great condition second hand ones on Facebook market place if this is a stretch. www.ponycycle.com

Another winner is the Le Meiux ponies (on their website and sell them in John Lewis now I think) - they are nice toys and you can buy all the tack etc and they get played with a lot still.

Also look at schleich - pony club toys.

Other than the real horse she loans these are the best horse items I have bought that have had years of play -at 2 you'll be getting your monies worth!

Thanks All for the wonderful suggestions!

I've ordered a Crafty Pony Foal starter kit. I think DD will be overjoyed on Xmas morning!

Old fashioned hobby horse (the stick type)?

SkaneTos · 07/12/2023 22:48

Thank you for the update, OP!
I'm sure your DD will love the gift.

JobMatch3000 · 07/12/2023 22:58

It's not a horse, but maybe a unicorn costume?

I've seen large sized "my little pony" in Sainsbury's before.

stayathomer · 07/12/2023 22:59

Horsey fizzy felt and some my little ponies and a horse book!!!

SillyShoes · 07/12/2023 23:04

Crafty ponies are great, I'm sure she'll love it. When my son asked for a horse we told him that Santa's can't do real animals because it's not safe to have them on the sleigh.

Honeyroar · 07/12/2023 23:10

I was going to say a crafty pony. They’re fabulous. She’ll adore it.

housethatbuiltme · 08/12/2023 09:48

Do any local farms do an adopt a horse/pony type thing where a few times a year you can visit 'her' horse.

Local petting farms round here often put a plaque up saying 'Sarah & John Watson adopted 'Piglet' on 31st July 2018' or something to that sort of effect on the fence where that animal is kept.
