Proper old fashioned twinkling lights

Has anybody come up with a decent version of these or brought the old style ones back yet?

I have several sets of the festive brand firefly lights as the closest modern equivalent but, lovely as they are, I want the old style really.

The firefly ones are a very yellow/amber shade which I'm less keen on than a regular warm white/clear. It makes my sitting room look an odd colour. Plus you need over a thousand of them to light an 8ft tree because they are set so close together on the wire which makes the tree blindingly bright.

Other LEDs that CLAIM to twinkle do no such thing. The one setting that comes close starts off with an acceptable twinkle but then veers off into a seizure inducing disco flash. Ugh!

Someone needs to bring back proper twinkling lights please? I'd accept them in incandescent bulb format. Actually, I'd probably prefer this.
You can still buy the old style clear incandescent fairy lights in static but apparently not the twinkling kind.

Has anybody got any idea if these exist yet or do I have to resort to scouring eBay for vintage sets?

As in my local garden centre doesn't have a decent website! Lumineo do but their links to their online shop don't work for me.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 13/11/2023 20:22

Thank you. I shall check them out

I bought these from my garden centre at the weekend! Precisely because they reminded me of the lights of my childhood... However I don't remember those twinkling? They were static. These are very pretty and have lots of different settings (that I probably won't use as they are all a bit intense!)

I have these ones www.lights4fun.co.uk/products/150-warm-white-led-traditional-christmas-tree-lights#accordion-trigger-description. They give off a lovely old-fashioned glow and they're spaced out enough that I can spread out one set on my 7ft tree.

"Lumineo Warm White Vintage Christmas Lights | World of Christmas Shop" https://www.worldofchristmas.co.uk/christmas-lights/lumineo-warm-white-vintage-christmas-lights.htm

Cheaper here

Yes, 120 bulbs though vs 180 in my link. The most I found was 240 but I think you'd need a 10ft tree to space them out properly!

Thank you. Yes I noticed the 8 functions thing which usually means mad flashing or weird slow fades etc. Not what I'm after

There were some twinkling lights back in the 80s/90s. We had a Woolworths set 😁

Mine do have a twinkling setting - I got them from the White Company outlet in Bicester Village in January a few years ago. No idea who made them because I binned the packaging. Clearly that's not helpful!

There's too many lights on the string though which means that it's all a bit intense. That's why I was looking at the Lumineo ones at the weekend - they seem more gentle than my current lights but maybe that was in comparison with the others on display.

@MistyGreenAndBlue can't do a link but I just got some from Amazon. Ollny LED DECOR LIGHTS. They twinkle just like lights used to and they're a lovely clear white. There's a few settings but one of them is that d school twinkle 😁

Hi. Thank you. I Searched on Amazon and can't find these ☹
Found a few of the Ollny brand but none described as decor lights so not sure if they are the ones.

@MistyGreenAndBlue yes those are the ones but there should be the choice for the white led ones unless you wanted that colour in the picture? I've got a 7ft tree and I can't wait to get them on there😁

Right. Yes thank you. I want the warm white colour.
I'll have a look at these.

Thank you. These look good actually, assuming the twinkle is nice. 🤞🏻

I do like lights4fun. I already have a lot of their candles. I should have thought to look on there myself.

Sorry about the ugly link

3luckystars · 13/11/2023 22:04

Now I want them too.

ScrambledSmegs · 17/11/2023 22:07

FYI @MistyGreenAndBlue I went back and bought the Lumineo ones. 180 bulbs. They're as lovely as I remember - they have a faceted bulb which already gives a bit of a twinkle, and the first setting after static is a proper gentle twinkly fade on and off, but not all at the same time IYKWIM.

They're also neither blue-white or amber (that weird colour marketed as 'warm white' which is actually more orange) but instead a lovely creamy white - just like the ones I remember. They're gorgeous, I'm so pleased I bought them now.

What’s wrong with the eight functions though? You need to find the twinkle that’s all?
