Proper old fashioned twinkling lights

Has anybody come up with a decent version of these or brought the old style ones back yet?

I have several sets of the festive brand firefly lights as the closest modern equivalent but, lovely as they are, I want the old style really.

The firefly ones are a very yellow/amber shade which I'm less keen on than a regular warm white/clear. It makes my sitting room look an odd colour. Plus you need over a thousand of them to light an 8ft tree because they are set so close together on the wire which makes the tree blindingly bright.

Other LEDs that CLAIM to twinkle do no such thing. The one setting that comes close starts off with an acceptable twinkle but then veers off into a seizure inducing disco flash. Ugh!

Someone needs to bring back proper twinkling lights please? I'd accept them in incandescent bulb format. Actually, I'd probably prefer this.
You can still buy the old style clear incandescent fairy lights in static but apparently not the twinkling kind.

Has anybody got any idea if these exist yet or do I have to resort to scouring eBay for vintage sets?

The ones with pink and the old style shades? Google 'Pickwick' lights. You can get them on a few different websites, including Amazon!

Noma still do a range of vintage style coloured lights, including Canterbury bells, on Amazon. All include the pink bulb. Yay!

Or go on Ebay for actual vintage lights. Noma, Pifco and Woolworths. I picked up some fantastic sets a few years ago including some gorgeous lantern lights.

Thank you so much.

I actually spent two days last year colouring in plain bulbs with paint pens. They looked bloody awful!

Thank you SO much for this thread @MistyGreenAndBlue I have been on a similar quest for years now!
May I ask, is there a setting which allows for a ‘slower’ twinkle, if you know what I mean? I realise I am getting into nerd territory here! Thank you again.

No. Only the one twinkle setting that I showed on the video. However, they do look very much like the twinkling lights of old in speed and pattern.

Yaay pretty!
Are you happy with the lights?
I went with warm white this year after the paint pens debacle last year. Still on the hunt for the 'perfect' old fashioned colours but led. I looked at the ones recommended but some of the reviews were very bad.

Yes. Very happy.
I have proper vintage coloured lights on my other tree this year. Frankly, it does seem to be the only way to get it right, unfortunately.

LEDs just don't have that gentle glow and the colours are never right

I am obsessed with the old fashioned 80s warm, quality street coloured Christmas lights. For years I have been trying to find a modern version, using LED bulbs, none of them are ever right, they always have the cold blue. This year for the first time a new type of warm LED is on the market, it is sold on Etsy, eBay, and Christmas shops. I’m going to order some and am hopefully that this is finally it! They are a close replica to the American ‘tru-tone’ vintage style lights that you can only get in the USA. Anyway, if you’re like me, you get it. I think the makers of lights have finally listened!

This is quite an old thread @circlesquarestar but those are lovely. And sorry to further derail the warm white twinkle quest (if OP is still around) but I have these - no blue and they are very close to the real thing:

They have Canterbury Bells too, but the ones sbove are my childhood ones. Just wish they had longer sets.
