I picked up one of my favourite things to put away for Christmas in my shopping today. It was a stollen - I absolutely love it!

What are your favourite Christmas foods?

OP posts:
PurpleSky09 · 03/11/2023 20:13

Cheese and biscuits, mince pies with thick cream, and chocolates from a tin. In that order too!

MikeRafone · 03/11/2023 20:15

Nigella's Christmas morning muffins

Homemade chocolate orange gingerbread men

hiw? These sound good, do you have recipes please?

Atomickittyxx · 03/11/2023 20:46

Cheeeese!!! With chutney and crackers. Bailey's hot choc or in coffee I loved the lebkuchen home bargains used to do in the blue box but I can't find it in my local one anymore 😥

LaurieStrode · 03/11/2023 21:47

Cheese, cocktail sausages, breads with lots of mustard, olives and pickles.

Hot chocolate with a side of Chambord in the mornings.

Mushrooms sautéed in butter with a little Worcestershire.

Buttered popcorn while watching Christmas films

GunpowderGuido · 03/11/2023 21:49

Waitrose Christmas Spiced Florentines have become this year's favourite. I daren't buy any more - yet!

But also shortbread and fudge which I never buy the rest of the year because I cannot stop eating them.

And the very first decent mince pie if the season.

And cheese. All the lovely cheese!

OMGitsnotgood · 03/11/2023 21:51

I am hoping that Aldi will have their sloe gin mince pies again, best mince pies ever..

Newberry Fruits.
They're only made twice a year in a factory in Poland. My Dad loved them so I buy them up when I see them 🙂

Are these the ones? If not, do you have a link please? I have a family member who cannot eat chocolate of any description so am always looking for suitable confectionery.

exerciseviligance · 03/11/2023 21:58

Mince pies, especially the iced ones.
Chocolate Yule log
Goose fat roasties

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 03/11/2023 22:00

I love a turkey sandwich. We go away for Christmas now but I still get an M&S turkey crown to cook when we get back so I don’t miss out.

Howyoualldoworkme · 03/11/2023 23:34

Yes that's them. They're not quite the same as the originals but Dad thinks they're very nice. He also likes York Fruits. Try Treasure Island Sweets online as well. Lots of great non chocolate things on there 🙂

Rhinestonecowgirlie · 03/11/2023 23:39

Duck and Orange Pate
Brussel sprouts
Parsnips

I love these foods so much and could have them any time of year I know. For some reason, I abstain until Christmas.

I eat pate throughout the year, but not Duck and Orange (despite loving it). It is reserved just for Christmas!

No idea why I don't just have them throughout the year 🤦‍♀️ just feels WRONG.

Oooo yes, love that pate

Ellmau · 04/11/2023 19:32

Pigs in blankets.

That was my main meal in 2020 when I had to be on my own at the last minute.

Georgyporky · 04/11/2023 19:38

Anything that somebody else has cooked for me - but NOT turkey

mondaytosunday · 04/11/2023 19:56

Christmas dinner. Favourite meal of the year. Can't wait.

jellybe · 04/11/2023 20:00

Cheese! All the cheese and fancy crackers and chutneys.

GiantToblerone · 04/11/2023 20:02

I love it all. But especially love:

A hot mince pie with extra thick double cream at some point in December.

My Boxing Day bubble & squeak with leftover Christmas ham & eggs

A Christmas cheese board

Trifle for breakfast Grin

ButtonDownBev · 04/11/2023 20:06

Mainly all the different cheeses (especially stilton)

Puff pastry mince pies
Pigs in blankets
Lebkuchen
Chocolate covered marzipan
Dips (with crisps, bread sticks, etc)

EllaPaella · 04/11/2023 20:55

Mince pies
Panetone (specifically to be eaten with a hot coffee mid morning)
Cold ham and baked potatos on Christmas eve
Pate
Lovely cheese and port
Lebekuchen

ABCXYZ17 · 04/11/2023 20:58

Marzipan. Pate. Chutney. Cheese. After Eights. Those German gingerbread, chocolate covered things. Mulled wine.

Bouledeneige · 04/11/2023 21:39

Roast potato's
Bread sauce
Pigs in blankets

BangingOn · 05/11/2023 12:18

For me, it’s cheese, general party foods (M&S usually have a good selection) and bubble and squeak. I much prefer Boxing Day leftovers with bubble and squeak to the main Christmas dinner. We generally eat Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, spend Christmas Day inhaling cheese boards and party food, then have a huge Boxing Day lunch.

ManchesterLu · 05/11/2023 12:51

Pigs in blankets. I absolutely love them, but don't bother making them at any other time of year. I don't even know why, but it gives me something to look forward to!

NC543210 · 05/11/2023 19:06

Treeslets!
Pickles
After eights
Nuts
Christmas Pudding
And yes to Baileys in a coffee/hot chocolate.

If you like a boozy hot drink then another couple of good ones to try.
Hot chocolate with malibu.
Hot chocolate with Cointreau.
