What's your 13/14yo's "main" present this year?

I'm looking for a flash of inspiration better than a taller bookshelf for her ever-expanding, double stacked, collection of books.

She's asked for piercings for her birthday on 28th December but doesn't look after jewellery very well so that's not really a consideration (currently mourned loss are a pair of ghosts that are at least an inch tall and 3/4 inch wide, so not exactly small!).

Almost 17yo dd1 has picked a vinyl player & limited edition Taylor Swift vinyl - she's wanted these for a while but I've waited until I knew she'd take care of it.

Anyway, all that to ask what your dc of a similar age will receive this year? Maybe it'll give me a lightbulb moment!

13yo boy - main present (from family chipping in) is meta quest 3 VR set.

We got tickets to see Spirited Away onstage which were extortionate so that’s the main present for our 15&11yo (will make a full Japanese day in London of it) so aside from that just stockings

Oh wow, I'm massively jealous!! The price was eyewatering but sadly couldn't get the tickets we wanted 😓Looks phenomenal, hope you all enjoy it!

If she enjoys reading what about a kindle? Depending on the authors she likes maybe see if they are doing a book signing somewhere and arrange a day out.

She's told you what she wants!

lucysmam · 02/11/2023 18:40

Ooh @ChimneyPot they're wonderful, thank you so much for the link. I'll order one when I've been in the shower & she's not likely to come down for a while.

Tickets to a show are a no-go - only because she wants to see Adele if she tours soon ish & I expect her tickets will be as £££ as Taylor Swift were for dd1.

Although both are keen on Hamilton 🤔

@maw29 would you really, as a (very nearly) 14yo, have been wowed by a bookshelf for Christmas?

She had a desk chair once - she saw the wrapped parcel & asked why she had an ironing board!

She'll get the shelf, but not as a present.

@Mamofteenager maybe - it would certainly save space 🤣 I'll try and find out how she feels about them, and have a look to see what's available. She quite likes worn in, second hand books which is partly why I never say no - they're dirt cheap & she can have 2/3 on the go at once, and I don't mind a pound or two spent if she decides she doesn't like one enough to finish it.

My 13yo either wants or is getting

New gaming chair
Greggs gift card
Keyboard and mouse
Chocolate
Money

jesshomeEd · 02/11/2023 19:08

A bike and an air up bottle

OP you mention books.
When my book lover was 14 she got a personalised embosser and loved it as she hates to even write her name on a book.

Oh that is lovely!

35and3 · 02/11/2023 19:24

My 13yo has asked for various expensive skincare products mainly. Her surprise is tickets to see Mean Girls in London next summer

JollyJasper · 02/11/2023 19:31

hi, for those buying white fox hoodies can I ask what size you’re going for with 13 year olds? My daughter is just 12 so don’t know if even a xs will be too big xx

midlifemelancholy · 02/11/2023 19:42

Z

villagelife1992 · 02/11/2023 19:48

I've got an XS wild Fox hoodie. It was the smallest size they did so hoping it fits.

I’m making my DD a hair care hamper. So far I have:
hairdryer (primark)
hair curler (primark)
straighteners (free with boots points)
nice shampoo & conditioner
dry shampoo
heat protection spray
brush
bobbles
hair grips…

This is a fantastic idea!

TheMousePipes · 02/11/2023 21:25

We’re also off to see Spirited Away as dd’s main Christmas present! Supplemented with some bits and bobs for her hobbies, some new makeup, books and vinyl.

99cats · 02/11/2023 21:38

One of the shark hairdryers with all the attachments
airpods
anything fluffy for bedroom: throw, cushions, slippers hot water bottle
led lights for bedroom
converse
waffle or candy floss maker
gucci perfume
(ideas from previous years)

CoffeeChocolateWine · 02/11/2023 21:47

@ChimneyPot, I'm in love with those book embossers 😍 I want one for me! But also might get one for my younger DD ( who loves books a lot more than teen DS!)

Vettrianofan · 02/11/2023 21:48

Warhammer figure.

MentalLoadOverload · 02/11/2023 22:10

My DD is redecorating her room and will be thrilled with any furniture of her choice so a bookshelf isn’t necessarily a bad idea - depends on how into decor they are.

reallydontlikeit · 02/11/2023 22:15

DS 14 is getting new golf clubs. I can't believe the price of them!

EllaPaella · 02/11/2023 22:44

13 year old DS is getting a Dope snowboarding jacket, salopettes and beanie as his main present.

cuthbertthecat · 03/11/2023 06:07

New phones as their 'big' present but they are due upgrades so it doesn't feel like a present because I'm not really paying anything more iyswim.....

So I've been a bit more generous with medium presents. Hoodies (she likes old school Adidas), books, guitar strap, sol de janero body mists, silver bangle, a weirdo freaky tarot poster, a silk pillow case. T shirt, pjs.

This is for 2 very different girls btw. Goth and princess.

1stTimeMama · 03/11/2023 11:39

Mine, DD14, hasn't let me know what she'd like this year yet, but she's obsessed with Lego so a lot of her things will be new sets. I've got a her a now discontinued, Black Milk Slytherin pinafore dress she coveted and I'm planning on some Slytherin themed DM dupes too. She's just getting in to make up, so a starter kit, and she loves reading, so a selection of books I think she'd like.

Other ideas I had were a phone printer, airpod dupes, HP bedding, trainers.

sendismylife · 03/11/2023 11:41

Had a second hand MacBook for joint Christmas and birthday present. Accessories (eg mouse, case) as presents from others
