I think that’s what lots of people do @Mademetoxic do you want respondents to specify exactly what’s new and what’s reused? You can still pack a box of things you’re reusing if your kids enjoy opening it.

That's good if people reuse the majority of the same stuff every year.

People shouldn't buy into all this commercialism rubbish every year for these 'presents' to go to landfill a month later.

No Christmas boxes here but Christmas starts on 1 December and finishes on 26 December - then back to work and ready for NY celebrations.

No, it’s Advent which starts at the beginning of December. Christmas runs from the 25th to twelfth night, which is the 5th January.

Fourfurrymonsters · 04/10/2023 12:41

Christ alive. Dec 1st boxes are now a “thing”? Is this because Instagram told you so? Have people really got this much time and money these days to spend on random crap?

TheCurtainQueen · 04/10/2023 12:42

A new christmas cup? How many christmas cups does one person need?

Honestly, this thread is depressing. We’re facing complete environmental collapse and people just can’t stop buying pointless shit.

This time next year people will be asking what crap they should put in their 10th December box.

Coastalcreeksider · 04/10/2023 12:42

I've just been to The Range near me and ok, I get the Christmas stuff in your face every year at this time but it was the singing Father Christmas robot that really made sure I didn't hang around in there for long.

Won't be going back in that place until next year now. 😁

RedDoughnut · 04/10/2023 12:42

December the 1st boxes?
When did this become a thing?

Is this instead of advent calendars or as well?

Christmas Eve boxes are bad enough

We don’t follow advert or 12th night so different timetable to you

I'd hope people would reuse the same cup year after year... 😬🫨

Never heard of them.

But the dates of the religious holidays aren’t about what you do, or when. This is like you claiming that Halloween is in June as that’s when your children celebrate it.

pd339 · 04/10/2023 12:46

Surely this is a joke?!

Needmorelego · 04/10/2023 12:46

@jolaylasofia yep - 12 Days of Christmas (December 25th - 6th Jan). Advent is for most of December. Much more than "one day".
Christmas "Day" obviously is - but there's all the other days.

As i said we celebrate Christmas from 1-26 December. Everything cleared up and put away then ready to start the NY.

MeinKraft · 04/10/2023 12:47

Think I'll make myself a 4th October box today. I'll stick a bottle of Sauvignon blanc and a sharing bag of minstrels in there.

YouAndMeAndThem · 04/10/2023 12:47

December 1st box has all their Christmas books - from previous years and usually buy 1 new each year, Christmas PJs, jumper and an outfit so they get used all month, their advent calendars, Santa letter kit, special baubles and usually some kind of Christmas chocolate treat.

Christmas Eve - don't both as it's too late for new Christmas things!

Needmorelego · 04/10/2023 12:48

@Mademetoxic surely most children will have outgrown last year's PJ's so would need new ones anyway.

HongKongGarden · 04/10/2023 12:49

But you didn’t, you argued about when Christmas actually is, not about when you celebrate it.

In general, what is wrong with reusing the majority of last year's things? Like bedding, cups, etc...

Needmorelego · 04/10/2023 12:53

@MrsDanversChickenSandwich what is this obsession with "plastic tat" ?
Not all products made from plastic are "tat".
Most seasonal things I buy aren't plastic - or if they are it's because I want it to last for years so plastic is best - because it lasts for years!

Needmorelego · 04/10/2023 12:54

@Mademetoxic well yes.... anything that's reusable I personally would reuse. I wouldn't buy a new mug unless one was actually needed (ie an old one broke).

I don't do a Christmas Eve box. I do have a box that comes out on 1st December though and it just has Christmas books, dvds (it's old), Christmas mugs in, some cookie cutters, Christmas writing paper, recipes etc it sits under the tree and just means we can do nice Christmassy things with the contents. My favourite thing in it is a photo album that I've been adding to for years with just a few photos of Christmassy things we've done each year. I like to think one day it'll be a family heirloom but in reality nobody gives a shit about it except me after too much wine when I start to get emotional about the dog's first Christmas/my gran's last Christmas etc etc.

It's sentimental rather than consumerist (in my opinion) because I'm not buying shit to put in it every year, unless the writing paper runs out, because it's things that bring us joy year after year.

This is lovely, I love looking at old photo, hopefully as your children get older they appreciate it more

HongKongGarden · 04/10/2023 12:49

Difficult to celebrate Christmas 25 December - 5 January when we don’t believe in advent and 12th night. You have your dates and we have ours.

Dnendns · 04/10/2023 12:58

jolaylasofia · 04/10/2023 12:21

they get an chocolate advent calendar. christmas eve they get christmas pyjamas and hot chocolate. christmas is 1 day not 25 days

As far as I’m concerned… christmas is all of December!

I could get on this trend too😂

It isn't called Christmas month, it's called Christmas 'day' ...
