And it's taken everything in me to say not yet...

Soon my precious, soon 😂

We were looking at the Christmas stuff in B&M.

I don't want to wish the time away but I'm looking forward to November and December, all the twinkly lights, fun and excitement.

Oh come now, Christmas board it not it's October, it's not "normal" to put Christmas decs up this early.
I can like Christmas and still not understand why people put their decorations up before December.

Eh?! This is the Christmas board. And is all year round. Xmas Confused

Your son sounds awesome.

Never understood why anyone would put Christmas stuff up before December.

They do it to perplex and annoy people like you

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 01/10/2023 19:00

A house on the next street is festooned with Christmas lights.

And I don’t use the word ‘festooned’ lightly.

Els1e · 01/10/2023 19:07

Got to admit, I did feel an excited glow when I saw all the Christmas display in our local garden centre yesterday. I bought a Christmas card, so made a start. My friend loves Christmas so much she puts decorations up from around end of October, ignoring the much eye rolling from her teenage dc. She lives in Australia too.

The earliest I will do it is 30th Nov as that's my birthday and sometimes it's a nice little birthday present to me.

Usually we try to do the first weekend DH isn't working in Dec, which is 9th Dec this year.

I used to put mine up on 1 December in time for my son’s bday a few days later. He’s 35 this year and has his own place now but I’ll still do it on 1 Dec

I know what you mean, we do first weekend in December usually. I'd quite like the weather to turn lovely and frosty as I think that helps me enjoy the Autumn/Winter. I also find that Halloween gets in the way of my looking forward to all things Christmas, so I'm always happy when it's over!

Yeah, I can't get into the spirit until we have proper winter, but we don't seem to get that lovely crisp weather any more. It's either too hot or damp and dank Sad

I am aware the Christmas board is open all year...

Active also shows which board the message is on. So if Christmas isn't your thing, don't venture into that board! 🤷‍♀️

Christmas can be your thing AND think it's ridiculous to put decorations up in October...

stargirl1701 · 01/10/2023 20:00

Lots to do to before then:

Hallowe'en - need to start learning jokes and poems for guising

Bonfire Night

Remembrance Day & Remembrance Sunday

St Andrew's Day

Advent

Winter Solstice

Most people who like Christmas don't get quite as snippy as you have about discussing early Christmas tree erection!

SkaneTos · 01/10/2023 17:33

I love Christmas, but we don't put our Christmas tree up until the day before Christmas Eve. On the other hand, we keep it up until January the 13th.

Ooh that's very unlucky keeping it up so long.... should be down by 6th Jan (12th night)!

Or Candlemas (2nd February).

HairHeGoesHairHeGoesAgain · 01/10/2023 20:51

I mean, I'm not actually getting the Christmas tree down 😂 it's a bit early even for me!

We generally decorate first Sunday in advent/30th November ready for advent.

I've always loved Christmas, then we had two utterly horrendous years where I could barely think straight. This year we're far enough away from the trauma for there to be a silver (tinsel) lining, hopefully.

I drove past a house the other day that had the house and garden decorated with Christmas stuff - inflatable Santa, reindeer, and snowman, as well as lights. Mental.

HairHeGoesHairHeGoesAgain · 01/10/2023 20:53

He really is awesome @reallyworriedjobhunter 😎 and a bit of a miracle amongst other wondrous things! We're very lucky to have him ⭐🌲♥️

😂 I love it @TheLightSideOfTheMoon if I could afford the electric, I'd festoon too! 🕯️

There's a house on my street which has just put up fake cobwebs in anticipation of Hallowe'en. I think that's far too early.

But am now contemplating what a house would look like with Christmas/Festive/Horror/Hallowe'en decorations

I've never understood why anyone would put a Christmas tree up before the week before Christmas.

HairHeGoesHairHeGoesAgain · 01/10/2023 21:02

We'll do a Halloween party and decorate for that @PeacockingAbout and DHs birthday and half term fun.

Then all saints/all souls and remembrance.

Then we get into DSs birthday and getting serious for advent and Christmas.

I love this time of year. All the planning and anticipation.

This. I love Christmas. At Christmas time. Tree goes up about 15th December.

NeedTheSeaside · 01/10/2023 21:05

Bookish88 · 01/10/2023 16:55

Did you get lost and wind up on the Christmas board by mistake? Hmm

@Bookish88

I did, I just use 'Active' & rarely notice what board it's on 😂

But I'm not a grinch, so it's all good!!

@HairHeGoesHairHeGoesAgain October is a bit too early for me. I try to enjoy Autumn, Halloween &
Bonfire Night first. But one of the neighbours has her tree up already & the lights do look pretty!!

I might put mine up 4th Nov, so when I come home from the fireworks it looks all lovely & cosy. Except it depends on the decorators & how much sanding they still need to do. If progress is slow, it might just be a sprig of mistletoe over the doorway on the 24th Dec 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

🎅🏼

I my home country it's old tradition to have the Christmas tree and all the decorations up until January 13th, 20 days after Christmas. The day is called "Tjugondag Knut" ("Twenty Days Knut/Canute"), and is the nameday for Knut, named after a Danish saint. So no bad luck in this case! I hope...
(The original Knut-day was actually January 7th, but my country wanted to celebrate a little longer, so in the 17th century they moved it...)

StarlightGin · 01/10/2023 20:32

Or Candlemas (2nd February).

Yes, I remember a quote from "Downton Abbey", I think it is Mary that says "The tree stays up until Candlemas".
That is a long time!
