What are you getting 11/12 year old?

Ds seems to be getting into clothes so is making a list which has a hoodie, t shirt, crocs, pj bottoms and a few other bits on it. In addition I’m buying a magnetic game thing that came up on my fb feed, a towelling dressing gown to make showering quicker/easier in the mornings and a few bits of toiletries, sweets etc. for his birthday in April I’m considering a new phone.

A new cheerleading bag then bits like fluffy socks, face mask, body spray for stocking.
She also has a Pandora bracelet on her list, money and skincare,

For his birthday this month he’s getting a flugelhorn, cricket top for the team he supports, bobble hat for the hockey team he plays for, Lego architecture set and the newest Percy Jackson book.

And I’d say apart from the Lego none of them are toys as such; they’re more things he can use for his hobbies or wear. Books maybe count as toys but they’re always given on birthdays and Christmas here alongside a game or puzzle activity/book.

I am very aware I have gone very overboard this year but due to my DC having a parent deployed for most of 2022 and being all round amazing kids I don’t care!!

Regarding the skin/care/V toys/crafts etc it’s all very well judging but varying factors affect what they are exposed/influenced by…

My DD is our 3rd daughter (eldest is 17) and so grew out of toys quite quickly and has always been much more interested in what big sisters are up/into, she is also at a large comprehensive school so keeping up with peers and not standing out is normal.

My middle DD is at an all girls grammar school and I’ve noticed a difference between her and her sister and what they are influenced by..

Could be difference of priorities or peers of maybe just personality, who knows!

IMO it’s not a hill to die on and being interested in good skincare/cleanliness/routineisn’t the same as being interested in over the top makeup and wanting to conform to societies young person beauty standards.
