What same gift could I get everybody at Christmas? A la Nessa in Gavin and Stacey...

So tired at the thought of stress and expense of buying gifts for everyone this year. I know I sound like a tight arse... but wondering what everyone would be a good idea for everyone? I'll buy the DC something more obvs but my parents, sister, nieces, nephew, best friend... I thought of one of those custom stamps with the person's face on? Any other ideas welcome!

@BerfyTigot Hi cousin!

Reluctant to admit I'm at least three of those people.

Nonplusultra · 10/09/2023 20:17

When I was drowning in babyhood, I would just head to a book shop and pick up something for everyone. A big one that sells fancy notebooks, reading accessories, board games etc.

BHRK · 10/09/2023 20:17

food

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 10/09/2023 20:17

@BlurpBlorp What was it Nessa got? I can't quite remember!!! Did she get them all a (sink) tap, or a door handle or something??? That was hilarious! 😆

But yes to lottery tickets as someone suggested. Imagine if someone wins like, £3 million though? Shock Will you expect a share???

A food hamper?

Chatsworth364847 · 10/09/2023 20:19

Don't be them anything. Either suggest a secret Santa for family so you only have to buy one present or be brave and suggest no one buys anyone a present apart from presents for the kids. My mum suggested this this this year and it's a relief that I don't have to buy for any of my family as you end up thinking of something for the sake of it.

Salt works discovery perfume / aftershave set.

£29 I think and you get a voucher in it for £25 which enables them to buy a big one of the fragrance they like.

Beautifully packaged too. I'm getting them for everyone I can this year!!

I don't think the OP is thinking of this kind of budget! More £4 to 7.... I am guessing.

A food hamper?

Again, I don't think @BlurpBlorp is thinking of this kind of budget. It's for little 'stocking filler' type gifts for people other than her children. (And very sensible she is thinking about doing this!)

HeddaGarbled · 10/09/2023 20:22

Get your mum a proper present!

hartof · 10/09/2023 20:22

Have you thought about secret Santa? I have 4 siblings 2 have partners and there's one baby. We decided a few years ago to do secret Santa for siblings and partners with a £40 budget. It's worked well and everyone was appreciative. We still buy kids and parents presents

Appalonia · 10/09/2023 20:23

Stocking fillers? Ha, when I was a child we got chocolate money and a tangerine! Would that do?!😂

GingerLiberalFeminist · 10/09/2023 20:24

I do this sometimes for people who don't see each other. One year it was make your own gin kits. Another year those storm glasses.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 10/09/2023 20:24

I also found those "paint your own money box" things from Poundland a laugh for grown ups.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 10/09/2023 20:28

I actually think I am going to get DH a tap this year as he loves Gavin and Stacey and is so very, very hard to buy for.

And then I can spend all Christmas morning saying 'a tap. Tidy' which will be like I've bought myself a present too!

But also I loved the pp's granny who did a fiver and a toblerone! I must admit when DS got to late primary school age it was a box of Malteasers and a tenner for every party he got invited to.

But to solve your dilemma OP, either a secret Santa or get everyone matching jammies.

Ponderingwindow · 10/09/2023 20:28

My mother once bought everyone the same exact jumper. It was very plain and not too fitted so size was a bit forgiving. It was a cotton blend so unlikely to trigger allergies and easy to wash. It was both brilliant and absolutely hilarious.

Buy everybody a book. Not the same one probably but you could go to just one shop or get them all on Amazon.

I second this 👌

Tiredalwaystired · 10/09/2023 20:35

Scratch cards

Marsyas · 10/09/2023 20:35

There is a section on this in my favourite ever Christmas book, The Perfect Christmas, published in 1932. Have taken a photo of the relevant page, hope it is readable!

OMGitsnotgood · 10/09/2023 20:36

This is one of the reasons we've cut right back on exchanging adult gifts, but appreciate it's not always that easy. I'd much prefer a bottle of gin/Baileys/Prosecco/wine than have someone struggle to choose something and end up buying something we won't use. If you go for a bottle of something, you can customise it slightly to the taste of the recipient. If they don't drink. then some lovely biscuits and/or crackers that can be used up over the festive season. Not quite 'all the same thing' but a little customisation whilst being able to buy in the same place.

Appalonia · 10/09/2023 20:38

Personalised phone case?

PressPauseontheMenopause · 10/09/2023 20:38

My brother bought everyone a bobble hat one year - different colours - and everyone loved them

GolgafrinchamB · 10/09/2023 20:39

I did get 6 people the same book for Christmas once. It was Invisible Women and I still believe everyone should read it. It’s a game changer.

(5 of them loved it, one thought I was a weirdo. I’ll take those odds)

My Gran once gave everybody a fiver and a toblerone

Great choice, who wouldn’t want to receive this?

Me! I hate nuts! (Dairy Milk & a fiver though - lovely!)

Chewbecca · 10/09/2023 20:49

@BHRKsorry, didn't mean to tag and cannot remove via edit.

I was only posting to say I want to receive a toblerone and cash, and maybe a lotto instant too. Please!
Definitely no candles or smellies. I am not very keen on the stamp either, it would end up unused in a drawer for sure.
